Meta: Brian back at #1

Submitted by Space Coyote on

I know we aren’t supposed to talk about it, but this is an epic seismic shift in mgoblog-land.  Brian has become the spirit of the living football team.  He is the leader and the best, the victor, of the mgoblog-community.  However, in recent times, Brian has happened to fall on hard times.  Sure, first it was just Magnas, the OSU of mgoblog land, aka, the primary rival to most people around these parts.  Most of us love to hate him, but we need him and his rebellious ways, and Brian needs him, because damnit, he’s part of what makes Brian so great.

So Magnus took over and won a few games, big deal, right? Brian will surely get it right back… NO! Not only did Brian get jumped by Magnus, but soon others joined Magnus in taking over Brian’s position as leader and the best (if only hypothetically in mgopoints, because we all truly knew Brian was still the leader and the best).  Soon, Brian was in sixth place all time in mgopoints, far from where most of us thought he should be.  But then came the 2010 season.

Sure, people were counting down to the event, and many claimed they saw it coming, but few actually believed their own words without worry.  There was talk of mgopoint-inflation, and talk of Brian having to practice a little longer (in other words, allow points from a few years ago to be taken away) in order to succeed.  Most of us wanted desperately to believe, but in our hearts, we were a little unsure.

Then, it happened.  2010 happened.  Some call it revenge.  Others purely payback.  Redemption comes to mind.  As does destiny.  The moment has come.  Brian is back at number one.  Overnight Brian jumped 20,000 points and retook his rightful place in mgoblog land.  Brian’s back baby!  And I hope you all see the metaphor.  Go Blue!

I'm sorry, but being here for a short amount of time, I have no idea what you guys are talking about. I mean can't we just talk about the guys on the field, sports, and recruiting for the UofM? This seems really stupid. Let the guy who runs the site run his site.

They're so cute at this age (point level).  C'mon guys, we are being a little harsh on the dude.  Down 31?  geesh.  I mean I get the neg so he learns, but that harsh?  You'll get it man, just stick around and read for a while to get the flow before you post.

The original post was mostly a joke, is what I think you missed.  Also, don't make your first post and then say "My first post!".  Oh wait, you already did that.  Well don't do it for your second, which you should wait a month or two before making.

I always likened Brian's mgopoints to Michael Jordan's NBA salary--didn't really matter since everyone knew who top dog was.  Also, comparing Magnus to OSU is a little harsh don't you think--I've never seen Tressel that cranky before.

In this analogy I guess I'm Troy University. I show up once in a while for comic relief (sometimes unintentionally). But, every once i a while I sneak out a victory....

If they hate him then they really need to look at their priorities.  But I would say the vast majority here like Magnus or at least respect what he has to bring to the table, and I actually agree with him most of the time.  Plus he coaches so that's instant credibility from my point of view.  The fact of the matter is that he does tend to play devil's advocate a lot, which a good blog needs.  But at the same time that devil's advocate can go against some pretty strong opinions.

I'm sure there are some people who hate me.  I'm okay with it, though.  I really don't play Devil's Advocate just for fun.  I generally believe what I say.  Some people think I just try to stir things up, but that's not why I have strong opinions.

By the way, larsonlo, I was wondering if you'd e-mail me.  If you click the "Bio and contact" page on my blog, you'll find my e-mail address.  I know you're a coach, and I'd like to perhaps pick your brain, if you don't mind.
