Hey now, some good recommendations come from those. Their utility is most definitely non-zero.

Lame jokes made out of homophone misspellings/typos/autocorrects.
"I like Derek Green, he'd look great in Blue!".
"Oh, Derek Green? He's alright. I'd much prefer Derrick Green, the #1 RB on rivals".

Jinx!
Seriously, it's embarrassing that Michigan folks are so superstitious. Sports aren't magic, people.

"Mods, feel free to delete..."
Yes, thanks for giving the mods permission to do their job.
"SIAP"
We assume you will be sorry if this has already been posted. That is the default. You don't need to say it. If you have a different feeling, like, you are trying to post something twice, say that.

Anything having to do with RichRod at Arizona. He is no longer our coach, and unless we are playing against him, what he does at Arizona has no impact on our football program. His tenure at UM is in the past, so let's leave it in the past. Going along with that, no more using him to bash on Borges. I get that some people are highly hurt by the departure, but it's time to drop it.
January 26th, 2013 at 1:34 PM ^
"Who cares!" Quickly followed by, "Well obviously you do since you took the time to comment lol."
Yeah, you really got them there...

January 26th, 2013 at 1:46 PM ^
Posts about Detroit sports teams. Most of the blog's readership doesn't care about the red wings or tigers, so we shouldn't have them taking up valuable UM space.
January 26th, 2013 at 2:03 PM ^
Doesn't the university strive to achieve a student body composed of 50% Michiganders and the other half from out of state? Wouldn't Detroit's pro teams then be as relevant to this blog's readership as all of the other state's/city's pro teams combined?
January 26th, 2013 at 8:33 PM ^
That's assuming that close to 100% of Michiganders are fans of every Detroit team, which I don't think is the case. It gets on my nerves when people post those threads without an OT label. This isn't the 'Nam. There are rules here.
January 26th, 2013 at 11:21 PM ^
No, it just assumes that a similar proportion of in-state students support Detroit pro teams as out of state students do their respective teams. Doesn't have to be 100%.
January 26th, 2013 at 1:49 PM ^
No more Al Borges threads. And leave Britney alone.......
January 26th, 2013 at 1:52 PM ^
How about posts that begin with an apology. "Sorry Im not an expert," or " Sorry if this has been posted already," or "Sorry this is from my iphone," or "Sorry im late to the discussion, I just now was able to remove the pickle." You know, stuff like that.
January 26th, 2013 at 1:58 PM ^
You guys realize that if all of these types of posts went away, there wouldn't be much to read on the boards, right?
January 26th, 2013 at 2:05 PM ^
You realize that's indicative of how much unproductive fluff there may be, right?

I hate the posters who tell "the board" to settle down even though there is one or two negative posts out of 200.
January 26th, 2013 at 4:52 PM ^
You need to settle down there bro. Only a couple of people said to settle down.

[something completely out of his control] "Omg! Dave Brandon is the worst!"
January 26th, 2013 at 3:38 PM ^
about Craig James. or his hookers.
January 26th, 2013 at 3:44 PM ^
I can haz less of these:
- Grammar/spelling nazis. We all know. Move on. Unless, of course, an error gives rise to hilarity, in which case carry on.
- Internet tough guys. Your dick is still small. Go back to your Mom's basement.
- People who deliberately miss the point: i.e. "Is this THE YEAR for Michigan basketball?" response: "I don't know what you mean by THE YEAR." Put on your thinking cap, sir.
- Complaints against Kate Upton imagery. uh....wut?
- Contrarians who are contrary just for the sake of being contrary. You know who you are.
- Complainers against "O$U" or "Spartina", etc. as if you are engaging in some kind of travel on the high road. At the end of the day don't we all agree with the premise that underlies those things? And as for "Little Brother"... the plain truth in a nut shell. That's why it sticks.
January 26th, 2013 at 5:30 PM ^
...the complainers you mention in the last paragraph are simply echoing Dear Leader's clear direction to eschew "stupid, juvenile nicknames".
January 26th, 2013 at 6:40 PM ^
I don't see anywhere in the link you provided where Brian commandeth that we refrain from stupid, juvenile nicknames. Sure, he mocks them, but he doesn't say don't do it. I understand the "stupid, juvenile" point, I just think those names contain elements we all believe are true, even those who complain against them.
January 26th, 2013 at 8:33 PM ^
Reading between the lines, it is pretty clear that the O$U and whatever other nicknames people throw about are not welcome. And honestly, everyone already knows the underlying meaning without the obnoxious mark-ups.
January 26th, 2013 at 11:20 PM ^
...appear to be especially lacking. Apparently you don't believe that when he lists the use of "stupid, juvenile nicknames" as a pet peeve and prescribes a bullet to the head as its cure that he's indicating he'd rather you not do this. Apparently you're also not aware of the numerous times that users who have used your feminized form of Spartan were negged to Bolivian and beyond.
The following is a list of my Sporting Internet Pet Peeves. I am taking suggestions for the extension of this list... I wish it to be comprehensive! What are your hated pet peeves? Tell me! I'll skewer!
Stupid, juvenile nicknames
Most relevant to Michigan fans is the infamous "scUM," but this idiocy affects many fan bases. Any "State" school is liable to find a dollar sign replacing the S in their abbreviation. In a rush to damn the NCAA people will completely disregard the fact that "NCAA" doesn't have any S's in it and go ahead and make the same swap anyway. Penn State gets called "State Penn" whenever a player gets drunk and frisky. Morons spell out "University of Spoiled Children" over and over again to display their disdain for USC.EXAMPLE
"scUM and the University of Spoiled Children are playing in the Ro$e Bowl because the NC$$ needs the money."DIAGNOSIS
This person is a moron who is under the erroneous impression that he is being funny, like that one uncle who tells the same joke every Thanksgiving for 30 years. This affliction is always, always a sign that you can safely ignore anything the person says, as they are either twelve or have Down's Syndrome.CURE
Insert bullet travelling at extremely high velocity into skull.SUSCEPTIBLE FANBASES
Most common with universities best described as "technically not high school" or fanbases in areas where there is no pro alternative. Obviously, then, this is an absolute plague amongst OSU fans, and is rampant at MSU as well.EXCEPTIONS
"tOSU" is permissible to use in a slightly disdainful fashion since OSU fans tend to use it themselves.
January 27th, 2013 at 11:46 PM ^
1. If Brian wanted to prohibit stuff like that, he'd say don't do it. If he says don't do it, then it is prohibited. If he says it sucks, is stupid, and suggests people should be shot then I take it as he thinks it sucks, is stupid, and added hyperbole to the same.
2. Who negs posts? This is not a rhetorical question.
January 28th, 2013 at 9:50 AM ^
...argument. Feel free to use whatever terms you want, friend. The answer to your non-rhetorical question is moderators routinely remove points from posters who use the constructions you're so fond of.
January 30th, 2013 at 12:59 AM ^
Yeah, it is a silly argument. But you argued with me first! :)
I don't tend to use the terms myself, and I'm not saying I'm overly fond of them. I was just saying I get sick of people complaining about them, when I feel pretty sure the people complaining about them agree with the premise that underlies the term. Kind of hypocritical.
Regarding the non-rhetorical question..... as you say, moderators is an answer. Also, the mod function available to all of us is an answer. Since the answer is not Brian, I don't take negging posts to be support for your claim that the terms are prohibited on MGoBlog.
January 26th, 2013 at 5:18 PM ^
Craig James & hookers. For the love of God, make it stop.
January 26th, 2013 at 7:36 PM ^
So are you saying that CRAIG JAMES didn't allegedly KILL FIVE HOOKERS?
January 26th, 2013 at 10:45 PM ^
"No homo."
This immediately makes me think that you are an insecure homophobe.
January 28th, 2013 at 9:14 AM ^
I'm annoyed by the OPs that throw out the name of some coach or player that at best has a tangential connection to UM and doesn't go to the trouble of adding a phrase or two to tell who the person is or what the connection (if any) to Michigan is.
January 28th, 2013 at 10:10 AM ^
Generally speaking, I don't enjoy when an OP simply contains a title and a link. If people want to post something, at least take the effort to explain, quote, or offer an opinion on the subject. I don't think MGoBlog is meant to just be a feed of links to other material.
January 28th, 2013 at 12:15 PM ^
Unprovoked/unrelated MSU comments. Personally, I don't like recognizing them any more than I absolutely have to, so when we're talking about one thing and someone chimes in with "Dantonio would have let him play" completely out of nowhere it makes me groan a little.
January 28th, 2013 at 12:20 PM ^
People dissing soccer at every possible opportunity, as if their existence was somehow threatened by the fact that many Americans are beginning to like a sport that hasn´t traditionally been one of the ¨big four¨ sports in this country.
Nobody says everyone needs to like it. But there´s no reason to be a dick to the people who do.
January 28th, 2013 at 12:36 PM ^
basketball* and football. People who comment (sometimes repeatedly) on a thread clearly titled "Soccer" or "Softball" or "Axe Throwing" only to try to piss people off who do like the sport is a pet peeve of mine. Multiply this by about a thousand if it's a thread for a Michigan varsity sport, maybe by five-hundred if it's a Big Ten or NCAA championship event.
*College basketball. The NBA v. NHL mindset is one of the dumbest things I've seen, and also follows probably the most predictable script ever. "NBA players don't try hard and are selfish!", "You haven't seen an NBA game since the short-shorts era!", "Yeah, because it's terrible compared to the NHL!", "At least Americans care about the NBA!" and then sometimes you get a race to see which side can say the other hates the socioeconomic/racial constituency of the NBA or the NHL first.
