META: App issues on Android Marshmallow EDIT: See inside

Submitted by hopkinsdrums on

I recently got a Nexus 6P which runs Android Marshmallow. When I try to use the mgoapp, it will open but not display content, no matter which section of the blog I click. My assumption is that it's due to Marshmallow but I wanted to make sure it wasn't some unrelated issue (like with my phone for example). Is anyone else with Marshmallow noticing this? My apologies if this has already been posted or addressed.

EDIT: Emailed Sean the developer, said to expect an update Monday or Tuesday. Awesome!

I've been having problems also since I updated my Nexus 5 to marshmellow.

It displays the MgoBoard from the day that I updated, but I can't get any new content.

as a fellow Android app peasant, I'm yet to update because I heard it doesn't work with marshmallow. The android app was made in haste by a dude for free. I think it was even a work or school project or something so don't expect an update.

2 issues with using the app on an android (using a galaxy 5) is that your comments don't always show up in a thread if they show up at all...  and when the mods remove a thread it shows on the app and when you select it, you get kicked out of the app altogether...

such as Bootstrap there wouldn't be much if any need for a separate app developed by a third party. The web site itself would essentially be a "mobile app" and would be more universally compatible across all devices, browsers, and operating systems. See Maize N Brew, 11 Warriors. I wonder if this might be something that's in the works.

Having said that, the MGoBlog HD app is a nice clean alternative. However one major issue is that when a moderator locks a thread or deletes comments, they remain on the mobile app. This is mostlly annoying because you'll get mobile users responding to deleted/banned posts, but it could create a larger issue in cases where a user violates someone's privacy by exposing some information, the mods need to step in to lock/delete/ban, and the information is still there on the mobile app.

Are you positive/willing to test out the deleted posts part? It's pretty rare to delete comments (maybe five this month, with LSA around that too). Threads very rarely get deleted, theres an unpublish option that's almost always used instead of using the delete button.

The cave ban issue is known, but if delete actually gets rid of the problematic content on the app I'm sure we'd use it more often.

I just bought the Nexus 6p as well and if Verizon ever gets around to actually letting me use the phone on their network I might get a chance to be mad at the MGoBlog app too.

On an unrelated note, how do you guys like your new Nexuses (Nexi?)? I had the Galaxy Nexus, then a Nexus 5, but then I jumped ship for the LG G4. The 6P is an intriguing device to me, so I'm curious as to your impressions so far.

Got my Nexus 5X last night, so far so good. Everything feels snappy, the couple of pictures I've taken look good. Screen looks nice. I'm on T-Mobile, so Wi-Fi calling support is a nice feature. LTE Band 12 (good for indoor performance) support is theoretically coming soon.

Gotta say, I'm liking the fingerprint scanner more than I would have thought, super convenient to unlock it that way.

It is a tad big for my car mount, I have to wriggle it in just the right way, but it'll work.

How are you liking your 6P?  I got mine two days ago and aside from the Mgoblog app not working, I've been loving the new phone.  I also got a 5X just incase I decided the 6P was too big.  Needless to say, the 5X is going back.

It's because East German Judge posts a picture or gif with literally every single post and it displays in the mobile app as a giant wall of text.  It's annoying.
