My apologies BiSB, but I remember your thread from back in June when things were getting crazy around here, and it seemed to help. Quite frankly this board has been in a sorry state lately, and I'm trying to do what I can to help.
All good. I just think we all need to have no grievances. That would solve everything.
last time I checked Michigan is 4-0. My only grievance is Michigan's whiney fan base.
Hold me BiSB.
How dare you cheat on TVH, think of the children.
My grievance: Make up your damn mind about your user name!!!
"Nurse Ratchid, I want to have one more vote to see if the guys wanna watch the World Series game."
I've got a lot of problems with you people!
You couldn't smooth a silk sheet if you had a hot date with a babe... I lost my train of thought.
The line just got pushed back for another two yard loss
I hate the Chicago Bears, migraine headaches, and the color orange.
I kind of like orange, it reminds me of pumpkins and fall time....pumpkin pie...mmmmm.....
I also hate Baldbill.
it's "follicly challenged William."
I guess you should change your name to "david from why."
Heheh. Get it? Heheheheh.
I was going to ask you the same thing.
But I shall inquire.
While you're at it, mind checking if I was also banned for association or something specific?
I guess as long as we're airing grievances, I'll say I found David From Wyoming to be a pretty annoying poster. The vast majority of your posts seemed to be some variation of "this thread is stupid / this comment is stupid / this OP is stupid / why is this on the board". Even though I agreed with you sometimes, it seemed you were ubiquitous without ever actually adding anything constructive or interesting. Plus, when I click on a thread I want to read about that topic without having to wade through a dozen "this is stupid" posts, and I just sort of mentally ascribed all of those to you. That may have been unfair.
Tha said, I actually thought you were better behaved then normal last night and I found your thoughts at least interesting and not particularly nasty in any way.
Now I have absolutely zero connection to Brian or any of the mods, but I guess if it were my blog I may have banned or suspended your account (among others) last night because it seemed like the easiest way to take the steam out of a rapidly snowballing discussion without nuking the whole board. Basically you were a highly visible target that was adding momentum (though not really nastiness) to the mess, and somebody needed to get whacked. Just a theory though.
To be fair, I kind of agree with him/her. When you bring a point or reason to your arguement, you are a fine poster with valuable insight. But just because you think something is dumb doesnt mean you have to point it out all the time. You could just not click on the post?
I guess I'm saying you could probably lighten up or whatever.
but, i don't think someone should be banned just because they annoy a lot of people.
I think opinions that annoy or are contrary to popular opinion can spark good discussion... or at the very least a bit of entertainment.
Who wants to read a board full of a bunch of boring, like-minded yes men? Weak
GIVE US THE FREAKING +/- MODERATION BACK SO I HAVE INCENTIVE TO PRACTICE WITTICISMS AND INSIGHTFUL COMMENTS.
I just want to know WHY the voting has not returned, whether its a conscious decision or technical delays. It just bugs me that it has not been addressed as if we're supposed to just forget it ever existed. And yes I know I get this great blog for free.
Brian and Co. have addressed that many times over. Technical problems. They spent at least a week working on restoring it, and Drupal just wouldn't comply. Then the season came and they had no more time.
Well, I guess I have to up my mgo-usage to 50 percent of waking hours. I missed something.
It has to do with transistors and gigawatts. Also widgets
What the hell!? I thought it was the fluxcapacitor.
THIS ^^^^^ is why we need posbangs back. +50 to you sir
Didn't he also say he'd try to work on it during the bye week? I'd forego some front page content from Brian if that meant getting the board back in order. All the way back.
It wasn't supposed to happen with the server move, but computers gonna compute.
Like most attempts at fixing what should work in the programming and scripting world, it will likely take hours and hours of figuratively bashing one's head into a wall until it crumbles.
This has been as much a cause of the bitchy demeanor of the board as the almost losses, if not more. Shitty, flamebait comments were quickly moderated and hidden before but now stick around and get responded too and devolve pretty quickly into fights where everyone has to get the last word in.
leads. I want more Board carnage.
Happy? What kind of weird freak are you?
Psssst...hey...by "happy" he clearly means "gay." Calling him a freak isn't P.C., dude.
Oh...wait...it's the other way around. Never mind.
It's MGoMeltdown around here.
pretty sorely needed after last night and the last two weeks.
1. People who personally insult players during Live Blogs. Yeah, it's heat of the moment, but come on, would you say that to me in person?
2. People who make everything an either-or proposition. Often times, the answer lies more towards the middle.
3. Netflix. No Scooby Doo, Tom and Jerry, or Looney Tunes. Why do I pay for this?
"Yeah, it's heat of the moment, but come on, would you say that to me in person?"
I KNEW you were Mike Hart. Don't worry, I never insulted you in a live blog.
to get his job.
I noticed you upgraded your pineapple, and I approve of said upgrade.
I take exception this pineapple. Bring back the old pineapple.
the Simba-pineapple or the one of the regular pineapple?
The board will be a lot less interesting if we get rid of all of the opinionated (if sometimes cranky) people...I also do not long for a regime in which we cannot raise concerns while, for example, our Mr. Brown says, "What could go wrong with contacting a fifteen year-old directly and posting an interview online with him in which he talks about, say, his dead father?"
I'm probably in the minority, but one of the things I like about mgoblog (over, say, rivals) is that people can disagree and the discussion may be sharp and sarcastic, but at least has a principled component. For all its faults, mgoblog usually does not descend into the usual Internet tough guy or homophobic/racist/ultra political insults (or, if those show up, the comment is moderated or near universally panned). I'm not sure that dissent is being squelched now, but I think if/when that day comes this blog will lose a lot.
The "interesting" part is the information disseminated... Perhaps you should examine what exactly your interesting part is. It seems lately a lot of folks have found it to be their own words/opinions.
No one is suggesting they have to change what they think, or how they feel. Just maybe they should think before so adamantly voicing displeasure with how the site goes about disseminating such info... It's very point for being. Opinions and free speech are guaranteed,.. Posting them on someone else blog may not be.
If Magnus says that, say, an OL recruit looks raw, that is information as far as I am concerned, yet it might (and in one case did) offend a recruit. Will Magnus be banned in the future if the same happens?
I agree. Even with posters less informed than Magnus, negative opinions with some reasoning behind them a least stimulate some discussion, and often somebody with some expertise chimes in with some extra insight. I like that and hope it stays.
Saying "how dare you criticize Fitz/Borges/whoever, you unathletic nerd who's never played football" is just as annoying, and adds just as much to the discussion, as saying "Devin is a F***ing idiot".
I'm just trying to avoid getting banned until I hit 30,000 points, at which time I'll be rewarded with a Vespa.
If I had a Vespa, I'd be all like, "Hey ladies, which one of you wants to take a ride on my Vespa to get some tater tots at Sonic?" And then I would totally score.
(didn't you used to have over 30k, then drop below?)
does that hog get?
surely he means Princess Vespa, which unlike yours, I would ride.
Dissent is perfectly acceptable in my eyes. Being an unwarrented dickbag to people over completely benign comments is just toxic to the community. Why would we want to encourage people who blow up at a whim on players and other members to keep posting here?
And raising concerns about recruiting and social media is fine, but comparing the work that Brandon does to Sandusky is beyond the boundary line. His job is to talk to recruits that have mutual interest in Michigan and the easiest way (and sometimes only way) by far is through a public forum like Twitter. It's unfortunate that that forum has been abused by other people, but that doesn't erase it's usefulness for legitimate practice or even come close to bleeding into what Brandon and MGoBlog are doing here. The concerns seem completely unwarrented in this business.
They're destroying my crop.
someone with a legitimate gripe.
"Boll" ? Dang, I always thought they were "Bo" Weevils.
Did chitownblue get banned (again)? Who is going to fix the fucking board code and when?
Everytime I fucking comment all of the comments get screwed up and look like replies to my comment.
Wow. Yes they do. Even the text box for comment entry shows up as if it's inside your comment. I wonder if I can break the board by constantly replying to your comments until everyone is forced to write in thin little strips on the side.
It's because the link in your sig isn't formatted correctly.
I just resaved it, didn't change any tags or anything but that did the trick. Have your comments back you sorry fuckers!!!
Now whenever I comment I need to consider not only if I'm adding anything to the conversation (pretty sure I'm the only one here with that filter) but also if it is worth mucking up the comment layout.
Did you just break mgoblog?
What on earth is happening here?
A mod needs to go in and fix that guy's HTML in his sig line.
Or he could just fix it himself by deleting his signature until he learns how to HTML.
I have just been MIND FUCKED between the we're here thread and now this... I have just been reading all of this and laughing the entire time
It does seem like posters on this board are taking an increasingly narrow view of things
Who will be participating in the feats of strength? George! Wrestle your father!
No one eats until you pin me!!
that it took 16 minutes for the first Festivus reference to appear
My first complaint is people who put an addendum on their posts saying, "If the mods seem this inappropriate, feel free to take it down." They're the mods. Thank you for your blessing but i you post a shitty topic they don't need your blessing to take it down. They will regardless.
Also the inability to edit from the phone app takes the bite out of a lot of my posts. I have fat fingers.
Also creating threads that talk about the same topic in another thread that is two threads down. Eniugh threads for ya?
Anyways, then they say in the message "if this has been talked about already by all means delete it but I didn't see it anywhere".
OK, I guess I'll be serious for a minute? During a liveblog back in the spring (spring game perhaps?), Brian promised a site overhaul would occur during the summer (that has since passed). His vision sounded awesome (better layout, sections, moderation tools). A lot of us were waiting for it, and it never came. Now we have to wait at least until next summer.
"You get what you pay for" and yadda yadda -- but don't announce the thing unless you will follow through.
Pisses me off that it ever got made and tainted the memory of I and II. Coppola admitted he did it just for the money. How dare he. How dare he.
Also, Star Wars prequels.
Also, [BREAKING BAD SPOILER ALERT] when Walt shot Mike.
I forgot the name of this method of watching the movies but try watching them in this order: IV, V, II, III, VI. Basically skip the Phantom Menace. Obviously we all know who Luke's father is but if you do it in this order it makes the prequels act like even more of a flashback and sets up an epic conclusion (for now) to the series. Personally I didn't mind the prequels but thought they could have been better. I'm really excited to see what J.J. Abrams can do though it doesn't sound like they're using the expanded universe material that much in the series.
Though in practice, I'm more likely to go "IV, V, V again because it's so good, and... I'm done." But I'll try.
To help the issue of clutter on the front page, having a link to the previous and next articles chronologically would help the readability of the website. My strategy coping with this right now is opening up multiple tabs to read over the course of the day. Naturally this slows up my computer and Internet connection but I KNOW I didn't miss anything this way.
while the defense is on the field. What's so hard about that?
1- clay soil. Can't transplant shrubs. 2- I can't press enter on the Body of my MGOBLOG post. 3- I am out of ideas for dinner. Why do they want dinner every single night?? 4- That half court shot by Wisconsin and Armando's perfect game. Still annoyed!!
on dinner! I have started making each person choose one dinner per week so I don't have to think of as many things. We do eat a lot of hamburgers and meatballs, though...
Breakfast for dinner is my solution. It's either "you know where the milk and cereal is, go help yourself," or "Get out the waffle iron we got for Christmas and go to town." Problem solved.
I know what you mean though. We do pretty well rotating the cooking duties--it's easy to lose motivation when you have to do it every night.
and Wolverines Dominate. Their names are nearly the same, the avatars are nearly the same, but one is really nice and one is really mean. I believe they may be alter-egos of the same person. It has really thrown me off.
They aren't. Wolverines Dominate is Darth Wolverine/We Are the Borg incognito, it's glaringly obvious.
I also agree. It sometimes causes me to scroll back up and re-read the thread because sometimes they have tow different views and I be all like... LoL WuTtTtT
I don't comment a ton, but I read this 20+ times a day. I used to enjoy reading comments. In the past 6 months, I've started to get irritated by almost all of them, because so many people carelessly post now.
I still enjoy the constructive comments on a lot of threads (Space Coyote immediately jumps to mind) where there are disagreements but it's smart and civil.
it's tiring to read people just being snarky at each other. Sarcastic snarky is great. Actually snark, not so much. MGoBlog is one of the most civil and smart message boards on the interweb but it's been degrading lately
you have reached MGoBlog maturity ....
I'll answer it from a mod standpoint - I really have to question the uptick in threads lately where I feel as if I need to post this:
Also, yellowjacket nests. Why the hell do they have to be in the effing ground?
nested on the side of the chimney ... and then found some access into the house! Had 5 or 6 every day buzzing at the window trying to get out. I called the insect mover (AKA - EXTERMINATOR) and those problems have been solved.
lucky that the nest was at least outside.
We just had to have a nest exterminated last week that had gotten into the attic. They actually chewed thru the drywall ceiling and came pouring into the house!
They were going for the warmth inside the house as it was 34 outside at the time. It was also 6 am when they broke thru and luckily i was still up.
It was not fun. Not at all.
That was my life for the first two years of being in our new (new to us) home. Got tired of purchasing hornet spray by the case, so on a whim I decided to sit on the front porch with a shop-vac hose with an extension in one hand and a healthy supply of beers in the other. Stuck the hose end near the offending entry spot and presto, thousands of sucked up hornets later I was able to go into the attic and safely remove the remaining hornets and the entire nest without so much as a single sting.
My first grievance is that one of our Mods is an unrepentant Brony despite apparently graduating from Michigan over a decade ago. It's like seeing a cop in a clown costume. Incongruity gives me an uncontrollable eye tic.
My other grievance is that I have to have the word "Brony" in my vocabularly.
/this is a joke please don't hurt me LSAClassOf2000
That's probably one of the funniest descriptions of me that I've ever read. Well done. I actually had to leave a meeting so it wouldn't look like I was laughing at a director.
We need a good negbang to air our differences
BiSB said it well on Twitter:
I hate all people I hate all people I hate all people I hate all people I hate all people I hate all people
If I was ever at Applebee's and Chris Berman got up in my table and uttered one of his tired ass sayings, I would fuck him up. I don't even care that me and my wife wouldn't get to enjoy our delicious 2 for 20$ entrees. Applebee's is just a jazzed up Elby's in my opinion. Fuck them and their stupid commercial. I feel better now.
I love the blog, but we deserve a nuke to be dropped on us. So much complaining. I'm Kenny Powers!! David from Wyoming, you are a prick and you suck. Boom, roasted. Magnus, you are an intelligent snob. Boom, roasted. ChiTown, enjoy your ban. Boom, roasted.
I'm very upset with how I'm acting right now. I just have a very hard time expressing my emotions and I can't stop from yelling. So, I'm very sorry, I DON'T MEAN TO OFFEND YOU, MGOBLOG, YOU HAVE FUCKING PISSED ME OFF, BUT I'M JUST VERY UPSET RIGHT NOW. SO, I'M GOING TO GO AHEAD AND GO, BUT I'M NOT GOING TO STOP YELLIN' BECAUSE THEN THAT'LL MEAN I LOST THE FIGHT!!
IM GOING TO SHA-BOOMS!
If I could ve reset to 0 out of the negatives after the grand noodle spat I would be soooo happyyyy...
As for an actual grievance, no spoilers but the finale to Dexter was god damn stupid.
I actually thought it was ok. Of course I wanted a happier ending but all in all it tied the series together nicely. Won't go into details to avoid spoilers but in the end it resolved the story and made sense to some degree.
It was honestly about the opposite of what I wanted to happen haha. To each their own.
I hope Breaking Bad will be much better. I'm actually only 1.5 seasons in on Netflix and I am hooked. Everyone keeps telling me that I haven't seen anything yet for the show.
I may have to make that my next show. I haven't watched any of it yet. I only know the basic premise but it sounds great.
I was hoping Dexter would kill every other character in the show and then eat a big ass cheesburger. Was that a spoiler?
Just to clarify, neither LSA nor myself have banned any actual users since Saturday.
I heard that he hates Wyoming.
Have you banned any unreal users since Saturday?
Maybe a little pendantic but I have banned users since Saturday, just not any that had any intention of actual posting.
To air my grievances about your snarky replies to posters, this kind of little thing always rising up under otherwise perfectly good posts is unwanted. Maybe if it was something capable of filling the box it might be more appreciated, but I don't think anyone is happy with the short stuff any more.
(You, of all people, with the underhand pitch....)
Am I missing something?
I got the negative points before the Central game with a spat over the whole noodle thing. I've been a good MGoUser since.
1. Not answering emails. I know you get them, you've answered me before. Read it and reply. It's not hard. 2. My dryer. Stop breaking. 2b. Stiff clothes from being line dried.
But having just had my dryer repaired, I feel your pain.
My grievance is with Brian. You'd think a guy who gets to run a sports blog for a living would be much more pleasant and cordial with his users. I can sort of understand his frustrations from the thread last night. Users shouldn't make fun of recruits etc.
However, Brian has become so derisive to his user base that it's really off putting. Even before yesterday's meltdown he has shown it. For example, take a look at the last paragraph from the most recent Picture Pages:
"Who's up for a tedious 150 comment thread questioning whether it's worthwhile to read this? I certainly am! I hope there are content-free arguments. Let's make sure to ignore Ka'Deem Carey's 2000 yards last year when we're incensed at the idea Rich Rodriguez might be able to coach a run game."
Honestly I love the site and all the free content but it's tough to enjoy it when the author is calling you an idiot. Brian obviously thinks the user base is steadily declining and instead of implementing a system to remedy that (maybe the voting system, maybe something else), he is content to just look down at us and insult us because he knows that we have nowhere else to go.
Shut up! Our fathers were our models for Brian. If our fathers bailed, what does that tell you about Brian?
Listen to me! You have to consider the possibility that Brian does not like you. He never wanted you. In all probability, he hates you. This is not the worst thing that can happen.
We don't need him!
Fuck damnation, man! Fuck redemption! We are Brian's unwanted children? So be it!
Nice. I was just gonna say that MilkSteak needs to not take things so personally. This was a much more effective response.
See! Now that's the kind of awareness and ability to self-deprecate a little bit we can learn from. Previous comment withdrawn, +lots for this.
The key is to never take anything too seriously. Really I'm just hoping that the moderation system comes back!
I would think Brian would be much more pleasant if every post and thread on this board over the past three weeks hadn't devolved into attacks on every part of this site, its staff and everyone in any way connected to Michigan football (fans included).
I would guess that most of us don't appreciate all that is going on behind the scenes, and all the crap we don't see. Brian probably needs a vacation, but so do I. Hey, that could be my grievance! Why doesn't my company give me unlimited vacation time! Don't they know football season is messing with my health?
Snark for snark's sake.
Money for God's sake.
All of my grievances are with myself. You all don't phase me. But it is like this
me: why do I still think Devin Gardner is so good? He throws like more picks than Denard.
ME: wtf man, you're a prick. DG is the man. And is so much better at the throwy part, and pretty good at the run part too.
me: damn this line blows.
ME: c'mon they are trying. Fuck you, me.
me: no Fuck you in your tits, Miller sucks and our best interior lineman is a walk-on!
me: I HATE THAT I LOVE THIS TEAM!
ME: I love this team.
me: This whole season is going to be like Akron.
ME: This whole season is going to be like Notre Dame. Can you smell the roses yet, me?
me: All I smell is crap dipped in 4-0 sugar.
I'm tired beyond tired of posters who call for any coach's firing or who say the team sucks before the first half is freaking over. These people need to grow several spare sets and keep them handy, because that is absurd and courts severe weeniedom. But I really think the mods need to start just dumping some of this kind of post because it is starting to drive me away from here on game day. I have already given up on the liveblog, and for a time saw the open thread as a welcome option. But the last two weeks. . . and there is one particular poster who contributes so little and happens to have what looks like the photo of a bad departed QB with a traditional leather helmet on.
Everything else I can live with, tho the site has gotten pretty old school and funky to look on, and the writers sometimes seem to have settled into a fairly predictable and self-reflexive back-patting. (On the other hand, I MISS those endless diaries of Brian's that seemed to bring David Foster Wallace deeper into the realm of sport), some of which really broke new ground in Still love and depend on this place, though.
Also time to bring more M sports, and womens sports, deeper into the fold here. I love and am fascinated by all sports, and can't be the only one.
Do those same posters claim that players have no heart? Because they do it in basketball season a lot. Up to and including the recent Wooden Award winner.
Basketball threads get particularly nasty. Or maybe it seems that way because there are obviously many more games, either way I remember being appalled at some of things being said during that rough five-game stretch (and also the two Purdue games).
I'll bookmark this for the next time you mock Section 1 unmolested.
Grievance: I am not particularly fond of your posting habits/style. I suspect you feel the same for me. It'll be alright.
I think after the last game thread he was gone. Check the Mod thread.
My grievance is with the "We're Here" thread. I'm sitting here, eating a Pocket in Chicago. Poor man's chipati. I open Mgoblog and find that thread. I start reading. I start getting scared. I feel old. I don't understand. Is the world ending?
Relax and know that you are awesome.
What the hell is that thread? Also, if the world is ending, I need a time and date. And none of that May 24th, 2011 crap that never happened. I need to plan. People should have to pass some type of test to start threads. Something. Weirdos.
I WAS GONE FROM MGOBLOG FOR ONE DAY. WHAT THE HELL GUYS!?
I understand the reasons why the voting system disappeared and hasn't yet reappeared.
However, I think the disappearance of the voting system is one of the primary culprits for the recent spate of self-destructive threads on the board. It used to be that if someone made a comment that was generally perceived as idiotic or out-of-line, not only would it be hidden, but the general disapproval would be obvious enough that most people wouldn't feel the need to chime in and identify why the comment was bad. But now, every stupid little thing sparks an endless back-and-forth.
As a caveat to this next statement, I know nothing about web design or about running a website. But since this site has numerous devoted readers, some of whom undoubtedly know Drupal, how about a call for a volunteer or two to take a look at it and get voting back? I'm not saying the guys in charge here don't know their stuff, but it seems like during the season they don't have the time to give the back end of the site the attention it needs.
I know Drupal. Drupal's an ass.
4-0 means nothing to some of you people. We want you to win and if it isn't by enough, BOOM doom. If it is with a QB from the shot gun or if they huddle too much or not enough or if they are exactly where they were predicted to be, one year away. Like most things in life this place would be awesome if it weren't for the people.
So here are my grievances:
1. People who complain about a win.
2. People who care more about structure in a post than it's content.
3. People who complain about OT vs. not OT. If you have your head so far up your butt smelling your own poop to worry about this, You are missing the view that non poop sniffers are enjoying.
4. People who complain about repeating posts including the statement did you use the search function.
5. The general we are great, we suck swings. This is the same team and coaches who were playing the first two games.
You seem like an enlightened gentleman and I would like to subscribe to your newsletter.
I pulled an abdominal muscle laughing at this.
I'm wracking my brains as to why you're not scoring more with the ladies.
I'm literally LOLing over here. Good job, that' not easy to pull off.
you just described my new digs in one concise sentence. well done!
I hate that Brian seems to have reversed course on his opinion of how MGoBlog operates as compared to other blogs since his argument with Jason from TBL at the Blogs With Balls Conference. This is directly obvious with what Brandon Brown is doing by contacting recruits directly instead of going through parents or coaches.
I personally believe that this method is going to blow up in their faces, based on the policies that I know to exist at multiple schools just in my little area of the world. The fact that not only are these concerns, which were raised by multiple people last night, are being ignored, but also seemingly trivialized by Brian and Brandon feels like a symptom of the very thing that Brian once railed against.
t sounds like work. I'm not big on doing the research and following up and calling people on the phone… I'm not a phone guy.
I don't know that Brian was railing against what Zerkle was saying. He seemed pissed about the idea of just running whatever in an effort to get pageviews, and to hell with the ethics fo what you are running or how you got it.
In my opinion, that is sorta the argument some of us are making about how Brandon is working. It feels like he has the attitude that as long as he gets the story and doesn't immediately get yelled at, then it is completely ok to do whatever he cant to get that story.
I feel like all I do on this blog is complain about/at other people. That probably isn't a good use of my time. I should try to stop doing that.
I have grievances against all of these grievances.
This is so not dude.
I remember years ago, during the early part of the RR era, this place would asplode with threads with topics like "RR is stupid. He doesn't get UM." and then there would be a 50+ comment stream with nothing of substance. That has been mitigated significantly, so kudos to the mods for that.
As for grievances, I'll be honest that the site is highlighting just how annoying this fanbase can be when it comes to panicking. I'll admit that I can be as bad as anyone, but my gawd liveblogs and the game threads become these manic bitchfests where people try to trump each other's despair and/or joy as the game progresses. Also, every f'king play becomes this moment you have to over-analyze. I mean, there was a simple zone read (or some other run) in the 2nd quarter of the UConn game that amounted to 3 yards. Half the people thought it was horrible, the other half thought it showed progress. It's a 3-yard run; don't overreact either way.
I guess my grievance is life.
when you watch games. I had to watch the ND game ~45 minutes after it started (had to put the kid to bed). I DVR'd the game and ended up catching up at halftime. Since I was behind the whole 1st half, I didn't go onto the liveblog or any threads. It was pure heaven.
Unfortunately, I couldn't stay strong for UConn night game :(
I just have no interest in being on line while watching the game. I do NOT need a community of others to agree with or affirm my own thoughts. Plus, I don't want to miss any of the plays (even though I can go back and watch them again.)
Agree with the agreement!
You've posted in the wrong thread.
But it's a bit like crack, unfortunately. Most of the time it is a good feeling and it is fun to connect, but when you get a bad trip you are in deep trouble.
Between the recruit thread, the multiple bans, the we're here thread, and this one, I feel like I'm standing in an office building watching a city burn to the ground right in front of me. I'm a nobody, a drone, a regular internet schmuck without a schtick.
But, I'm entertained.
This is exactly how I felt before I had an account and saw those sorts of threads. Mixed in with a little helplessness, strangely enough.
Why is the milk jug yellow? Since when are there Chocolate Frosted Flakes? Why can't I unwatch this? These are the grievances I have. Well, plus everyone here needing to take a step back and have a relax every now and then.
There are chocolate Frosted Flakes now. I saw them at the grocery store. I couldn't believe it! But, why did they put milk in the OJ?
Its probably Smith's milk. And Smith's milk is the best damn milk there is.
Horizon just bitch slapped your mom.
You watch this and wonder why the milk jug is yellow, as opposed to, say, why is this man's mouth open in that unnatural way, or why does he look like a freakish mannequin, or how much pot has to be smoked to volunteer to be on the receiving end of this?
I know MGB is a sports blog which inherently have a certain tendency toward hivemind, lofty expectations, and awful meltdowns. That said, I would expect more out of adults following Michigan sports than comments like "we suck" and "player x is shit, pull them" without any insight. I see the same thing in recruiting and player projection threads where people have no clue what they are talking about but seem qualified to make an opinion about who they think is better. Nobody cares, unless you know about recruiting and have studied somebody's film or been to their games or whatever.
Also, while it may not be unique to MGB, the meltdowns may not be as bad if many of the users had more reasonable expectations. Remember how Devin was a Heisman contender (despite only starting five games last year) and Derrick Green was probably going to go pro after three years? There is a reason cfb fans make fun of our "September Heismans" and it has to do with how effective (and annoying) the hype machine can be. I think some a little more humility from the fan base could not only help its own sanity, but also the reputation for undeserved arrogance.
I have a grievance against the moderation system. It encouraged hive mindedness and douchebag posters who constantly attempt to be snarky and clever rather than actually contributing to a discussion.
Serious, non-snarky or hiveminded question: how do you know when you're seeing a hivemind of unoriginal slavish thinkers and when you're just seeing a bunch of people who, after consideration and deliberation, have reached the same conclusion that is not the one you reached?
And now there are too many people posting crap to have a good discussion. The format only worked when there were less people.
JohnnyV123, you get me, man. You just get me.
1. The board's posting mechanism sucks for attaching pictures, video, and links. For some reason, it always gets screwed up when I try to do it, and you younger kids who built this thing ought to make it user friendly enough that us neanderthals can post without screwing it up.
2. The general level of discourse on this site has been slipping recently, and not just because of the tough Akron and UConn games making everyone whiney. Everyone is getting personal in their attacks on each other, and there is less and less substantive commentary. People are launching stupid personal attacks instead of talking about football.
3. People are over-posting. Unless you have something interesting to add, just STFU. I've read this Board for a few years now, but I barely ever jump in to say something. People should show more restraint.
In conclusion, GOML.
This is scaring me shitless.
In appreciation of this site, I think Brian and Crew have erred by not implementing the +1/-1 forum system. Football season or not, they should have put other info aside to finish this aspect of the site. It sets a ton for what happens here, how people respond, and the sense of ownership we all have over the site.
I'm a happy guy. Red Sox are AL East Champs, Dolphins are 3-0, Red Wings are about to start and Michigan didin't lose.
I got a lot of problems with you people! And now you're gonna hear about it!
I'll give it a shot. My current grievances:
1) Inability to bitch slap whiny unappreciative users on this blog.
2) Ass-hats who insist on cutting me off during my 35 mile morning commute.
3) "Don't tread on me" bumper stickers on the back of aToyota Tundra. Economic patriotism, look it up.
4) Dudes who wax their eyebrows (Whiskey Tango Foxtrot). Freaks me out a bit.
5) WOD apparel. Get over yourself, you didn't invent fitness.
6) The fucker at work who insists on nuking fish in the microwave.
7) Living in SEC country.
8) Toll roads. Can I deduct tolls from the state and federal taxes I pay to support all the other roads?
The idea of "Economic patriotism" is stupid and Toyota employs a hell of a lot of Americans.
Well you must have missed the irony of plastering the back of a Tundra with patriotic propaganda. Those hell of a lotta Americans didn't spring forth perfectly formed from Toyota's forehead. How many displaced GM, Chrysler and/or Ford workers are there? Having lived in several countries where there is a priority placed upon purchasing domestic products, I would say that your idea of Economic Patriotism being stupid is, in fact, stupid. For a population that laments the loss of manufacturing jobs to so willingly seek out non-domestic products is "stupid". Oh, and so are grown men who use snarky 90's era cartoon avatars. /counter grievance aired.
My life has gone to complete shit, and seriously doubt it will get better. It is a struggle for me to get out of bed in the morning, and if it wasn't for my kids, I would have checked out a while ago.
It has been really hard to enjoy this season; and not because of the past two weeks, but because of the despair. I feel like such a chicken shit by reaching out anonymously on a sports blog, but I am way too embarrassed to confide in someone in my immediate circle. I feel nobody would take me seriously because I have been the pillar of strength in the family, and I am
quick to laugh and smile, but the smiles and laughter are now a mask for pain.
It may sound corny, but this blo g and many its mmbers n a constant slice of goodness for me, and it sucks to see it in the state that it has been in lately, wich leads me to say: relax, shit isn't that deep.
Thank you Brian for your hard work and wonderful site, and thank you to the numerous Mgomembers (too many to name) for the funny and insightful posts.
Go Blue forever and always.
Even though life seems bad now, it always gets better. That comes from personal experience.
Admitting that you need help and then seeking that help is more courageous than fighting whatever you're dealing with by yourself. It's a lot tougher to take care of others, when you can't take care of yourself.
If you ever need anything, we're here for you. There are some decent enough posters on here, yet.
It is definitely hard to be the one who is the pillar of strength and admit you are going through rough times. Everyone will be very super supportive, more than you know. I have been the "pillar of strength" for my mom ever since my Dad died and let me tell you, it is a hard job. Here's the deal: you have kids who love you more than you know and (speaking from experience) they can't lose their Dad. Trust me. So here's what you need to do- make an appointment with your family doc. (Because I know you men don't go in for your annual check ups...) Tell him/her what is going on. It may be as simple as an anti-depressant. Either way, call someone. You can't be up every night at 4:19 a.m.! I hope you read this. Take care.
Wow, I'm sorry you're going through such a rough patch. You may not think it will get better, but it will. Good for you for being strong for your kids and your family. There's not much that's more important than that.
Hey man, I've gone through something similar and let me tell you that getting the help you need, as hard as it might be, is the right thing to do. Remember that every problem is temporary. Your kids love you and need you. If you can't do it for you, get help for their sake.
How can we have festivus with out a pole?
The older I get, the more I realize that grievances just follow some people around no matter where they are or what they are doing.
The people with the constant grievances on this board are the same people that would have grievances at a Cub Scout bake sale.
I disagree with some of things said on this site from Brian Cook to The Knowledge, but grievances? On a college football site? Seriously?
This is supposed to be fun.
These cookies... are making me THIRSTY!
Angry, I tell you, at glazed doughnuts.
I P funny colors.
