Met Jay Riemersma today with some thoughts on the team.

In my usual wandering around at work today a guest came in with a Michigan hat and asked me for assistance. Along with him was his two little tikes who were also decked out in M gear.  As I was walking through the store I felt the need to ask him about Michigan football and how big of a fan he was.  He said, well ya I am, I played there.  I figured that he might of been a former player because of his size, and how familiar he looked, but I couldn't put a finger on it.  Then he told me and I should of known since he was one of the few people from our area to play at Michigan, but I was only 12-14 when he played there so I wasn't sure.

I then asked him what he thought about RR and the team.  He like everyone else thinks he needs to produce this season, because with all the baggage from the violations etc..  He doesn't know if they would keep him around after another disappointing season.  But he does believe that RR is a great coach and proven by what he did with WVU in the years he was there and really likes the speed and skilled players we have.  He was pretty bummed about the Woolfolk injury, but still thinks they are a talented enough team to pull through.  He really thinks if they allow enough time for RR they are gonna be a very dangerous team in the future with everything that they bring to the table.  He can't wait for opening day and thinks it will be an interesting opening game against UCONN.

It is nice to hear some support from former players especially from that era of Michigan football.

haha, yea i def. didn't mention the election.  I remember seeing him on our local stations for that.  I am not one for political talk so I avoided that.

Like I mentioned, He looked very familiar, I knew he was running for office, but I couldn't put a name with a face.  When he told me who he was i figured it out since the only two michigan football players from holland/zeeland that were relevant was him and Rob Renes

Especially since Jay's answer sounds reasoned and fair, but leaves us with his positive feeling about RR and the team.

I will withhold asking where you work.  You know, once things like that get out in the media...

U know one of my friends is a big Penn State fan and just loves to yell Jay Riemsersma whenever he gets a chance.  Says based on his name alone he is is favorite Michigan player.  I mention Michigan I get a loud JAYYYYY RIIEEEMERSSMAAA in Keith Jackson style.

He must have changed his tune.  I saw him at a GVSU tailgate last fall when he was campaigning and asked him about RR and he went on a tangent about him lowering academic standards as soon as he arrived and then continued (keep in mind I only asked him one question) until his campaign manager told him to move along.

Jay didn't say that the UCONN game will be "telling"? Why did he say, "Interesting"? What does this mean? Where's Melissa when we need a call on this?

Riemersma is a great guy. He spoke to my bible study once because he's a family friend of a buddy of mine. He's got a level-head and he loves football.
