Weiss made a nice save on a UNC "EMO" (Extra Man Opportunity, for those who don't follow LAX) late in the second quarter, but the 5th ranked Heels scored seven goals after U-M kept it close at 2-2 early on, after going down 2-0.  UNC has 30 shots to U-M's 13, and UNC has put 17 shots on cage.  U-M also getting dominated at the X (face-offs), down 11-3, and that's a big part of the reason why UNC took control in the second quarter.

ACC teams play at a higher speed than most of U-M's players might be accustomed to, but this game could be a good learning experience for U-M's Team One players who will be part of Team Two.  for those

So proud of what this team did this year.

Sure, they didn't win many games, but they were competitive in ALL of them. Trevor Yealy is the George Washington of this program, and will be looked back on as a Willie Heston type figure when there is a team 132 in lacrosse someday.

I see nothing but great things in this programs future.

Weelllll.....let's go with "most of them."

It doesn't take away from what they did, though.  Actually the win-loss record was not as good as I expected, but they were competitive in more games than I thought they would be.  I guess that balances out.  Next year there are upsets coming, book it.  I would say as soon as next year that our neighbors to the south had better watch themselves.

True.  It was a pretty frustrating season, though.  I thought they would end up with more wins.  I think if they had Weiss in the first few games they would have beaten Detroit and hung with Penn State  a little longer.

Looking back, they could have beaten Jacksonville and Rutgers and maybe even Ohio State. I thought they played poorly against Ohio and still only lost 12-9.  11-7 losses to both Harvard and Delaware is very encouraging and very impressive for what is basically a club team.

But, they had some shitty, near-blowout losses to teams like Mout St. Mary's, Bellarmine and Air Force which was sort of bewildering.  They were not strong teams and at the beginning of the season looked like the few winnable games on the schedule (Mount excluded).

For a first year team they had a really hard schedule and they performed pretty admirably.  This also was not Michigan's strongest team.  But overall, they have a lot to build on for the future.

I'm dying for the days when they'll be playing in the NCAAs.  Hopefully its sooner rather than later.  Go Blue!

One of the commentators mentioned the hazard of U-M's men's team going from Club to Varsity status without a grace period, something that U-M's women's lacrosse team is getting.  He made a good point that virtually all of U-M's players never expected to be playing at a Divsion One level. Even all of UNC's reserves are D-1 players, so you can't fault the Wolverines players for this outcome, as frustrating as it must've been for them.

It might take five years or more of good recruiting to make U-M LAX more competitive with upper tier LAX Programs, but, as they said, there will be some very good players who will be happy to wear the winged helmet and get a chance to play in The Big House.

Top-ranked teams like UNC regularly roll over teams that have been in D-1 for years, so all things considered Michigan shouldn't feel too bad about this outcome.  There are a lot of very good HS players on Long Island and in the Mid-Atlantic that are only just beginning to realize that UM has a D-1 program now.

My cool story bro story of the day: My sister texted me around noon saying she was waiting on half of the Michigan lacrosse team. If you want to blame her for the loss I'm totally fine with that.

Lax Power lists 20 recruits for Michigan's Team Two.

Not  sure whether any of them will be able to make a substantial difference in U-M's record in its first official season in the ECAC in 2013, but this is the foundation. Patience will be needed, even though, "This Is MIchigan, Fergodsakes."

Of the 22 players on the ECAC All-Conference teams, 12 will be returning next year, so the competition should be at least as tough as this year. U-M's rookies, GK Emil Weiss and Attackman Will Meter, could be among the better second- year players in the ECAC next year, and they probably would've had some consideration for the ECAC All-Rookie Team , if they'd been eligible.  , if they'd been eligible for the honors.

Team 1 is in the books. Looking forward to Team 2 continuing what its predecessor has started. I think we've got a good foundation, just gotta keep working hard. Only 1-2 games where we were destroyed from the get go and kept things competitive longer than I thought against some opponents.

I don't know if any of mgoblog's lacrosse community has seen the NCAA tournament seedings yet  but there is some unusual stuff going on in the bracket this year.

UMass, which had a historic season, finishing undefeated and ranked #1 in the country, got jobbed with a 6 seed.  6!  Unbelievable!  For their hard work and success this season they get to play a red hot 13-3 Colgate team in the first round and then either Duke or Syracuse in the 2nd round (I don't think I need to state their tourney credentials).  Meanwhile, Hopkins, which yes, did beat #1 seed Loyola but also lost to a deplorable Navy team by a pathetic score of 8-2 last week, got the #2 seed.  They get to play 7-9 Stony Brook, an AQ team. Hopkins, of course, is college lacrosse royalty.

We may be looking at a Final 4 of Duke, UVA, Hopkins and UNC - the same old, same old.

This is becoming a huge problem.  If you're not among the 'elites' in college lacrosse, the deck is stacked against you.  I hope that the sort of politics that has plagued the sport for years is gone by the time Michigan is perenially in the hunt for a playoff spot.  If not, well,  they might as well be a club team again.

Sorry for the rant...
