I don't know - but if they do, so what? It's not hurting me any, and I seriously doubt they'd do it as a form of disrespect. Yes, Memorial Day (originally called Decoration Day)is a day of remembrance to honor those members of the military who died in their country's service. And certainly no group of people deserves to be remembered more than those men and women who gave what Lincoln famously called “the last full measure of their devotion.” However, I don’t really think you can thank any members of the armed forces too much. These folks chose to serve their country, often by putting themselves in harm’s way. They deserve our thanks, and thanking them on the wrong day is certainly better than not thanking them at all.

No, but thank the children that have lost a parent, the spouse that had dreams of togetherness replaced by a folded flag or the parents that have suffered through burying a child. I appreciate the vets and the sacrifice and service also but they aren't thinking of themselves today but of those empty spots at the cookout and in life tomorrow.

that people know the difference but choose to thank a member of the military because they either do not know a family to thank for their sacrifice or they want to thank people for putting their lives in peril every day. A thank you is a nice gesture and are few and far between these days...

Thank you to all the service people who paid the ultimate price to allow us all the freedom to come on this blog and over analyze any and all minutiae related to or unrelated to Michigan athletics.

As stated above, this holiday was dedicated to those who never made it home but we should also take time to those who have served and currently serving for the sacrifices they make, along with their families. God bless America!

A parade, flags on their graves, flags at half staff and remembrance. Today the graves of American soldiers in Holland, Belgium and elsewhere in Europe will be cleaned and flowers laid by the children and grandchildren of those they saved from tyranny. In some cemeteries, each US grave has an assigned minder, who visits today, on the soldier's birthday, on the date of his death. There are waiting lists of those who want to tend a grave, as many are passed down within families. Think about that. Can we not do the same, at the least? I'll be heading over after the parade, with my sons, they'll complain, as they are teens now, but they will remember.

There are more than 100 names on the waiting list at Margraten. Some of the families knew the GIs personally, as they lived amongst them when they weren't fighting on the Siegfried Line. They basically took them in, as their own sons were in German labor camps, in hiding, or dead. So they adopted their graves when they came back from the line dead, and the tradition was formalized by the mayor. The tradition spread to Belgium and France, but it started with the Dutch.

Many thanks to those who served and gave up everything in service to our country. It would be a very different world without you. Thank you and rest in peace.

The opening of Saving Private Ryan depicts it, it's like the first 23 mins of the movie, whenever I watch it I get real emotional.  What a friggin balsy endeavor, we just threw a barrage of soldiers at them and to consider the lives sacrificed is simpy awesome.  Makes me think that the French should kiss our asses forever!

If you consider all of the people who've ever lived on earth, the answer is a miniscule percentage.

Thank you to all that gave their lives to build and protect our freedom and resulting prosperity.

Apparently Harbaugh doesn't know the difference between Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Oh well, it's the thought that counts.
