Meineke car care bowl thread
THE BIIIIIGGG TEEEEEENNNNNNN
Holy MANBALL. 2 fullbacks and an absolute trucking of a DB for a big Minny gain.
Was a beautiful play.
I would love to see Minny shut up all the B1G haters. Kill can coach. The B1G is on its way back from a low point right now.
Minnesota just got a good looking TD (making it 10-7). Go Gophers! Go B1G!
believers the F up.
It is so concerning how we couldn't run against THIS run defense
You how bad our oline is/was and will probably be as good or better next season even while being very young.
I didn't realize that you could get 15 yards for playing football. Horrific call against Minnesota. How dare you hit a guy before he's on the ground. *shakes head*
This is like what happens if you play Madden on fifteen minute quarters.
with a TD pass. Woo 31 points on Tha (Red) Raidas!
Believe Minnesota made a bowl game, I thought they were horrible, really, people who bitched about Rutgers coming to the B1G, they are probably an upgrade from Minnesota and RR's rival Indiana.
I think they'll be ok in a year or 2 when the line is experienced. I'll never ever understand the Mason firing.
You are right, their line will be pretty good, can't believe they fired Mason either...where were thy trying to go? They had some of their best years under him and since have been terrible. Kill doesn't seem like a good coach either IMO.
Kill has a modest (.607) winning percentage because he is the guy brought in to fix programs that have gone beyond the pale of moribund into downright awful. And he does it, too. He's not Saban, but Saban would get his ass killed at Minnesota.
Jerry Kill has followed other successful coaches before now. He didn't have a great record in D2, and had the luck to fall into a good situation at NIU
Lou Holtz went there and it didn't take him long to realize that winning there is impossible.
Is a horrible in game manager, I've seen him make many boneheaded decisions this year alone. He has 1 year left to prove he can get to Mason's level and then he's gone. If they were smart, they would rehire Mason.
The B1G couldn't get off to a better start. I pray we win so at least I won't pay as much attention to the "B1G Hate" the media will talk about endlessly.
We are not the SEC, haaaaving said that, Guns Up!
Minnesota's secondary is horrible. If they blitz they'll get burnt all day, so it seems thus far.
on whether teams perform better or worse when their coach leaves? I took TT in this game but marked them down to 11 from where I would have otherwise given Tubberville's classy exit to the Queen City.
My dog just told me she wants more A.J. Barker. He's her favorite football player
Air Bud: Golden Receiver?
That three back set is the most Big Tem thing ever.
I'm inventing a drinking game where I drink whenever they say "deep in the Heart of Texas"
Is Gerg coaching these defenses?
Donnell Kirkwood and Rodrick Williams may very well 7 and 8-yard Texas Tech to death at this rate. Minnesota has little reason to go to the air right now if TTU's rush defense is really that porous.
Big Ten represent in an away environment yet again.
Marquiess Gray now. Why these guys get the big $.
Wow, Minny's offense came to play (if not the D).
That could be the game.
Why does it seem like no one knows how to tackle anymore?
of watching football I can't ever recall seeing 3rd and 49.
I like how the announcer said Lubbock isn't that far from Houston when it's like across the state
It's closer than Minneapolis?
it's closer from Ann Arbor to Iowa City than it is from Lubbock to Houston
2nd and 42? Wow.
Only a Big Ten team would run it in that situation.
3rd and 49
3rd and 49. Wow.
I like the draw for a 3rd and 49 call.
ed: Called it!
and they line up in the I formation.THAT is the most Big Ten thing ever.
Aaaaand another penalty as I type.
I think Jerry Kill needs my NFL Blitz skills to take care of that 3rd & 49.
3rd and 49 is a new high for me to have seen in my football watching career.
Is it really that hard to see the ball not moving when it is about four feet from you? Obvious offside is obvious on Texas Tech.
Also, Minnesota just negated all positive yardage back to the Illinois game with this 3rd and 49 play. Passing down, right?
Does anyone honestly get worried when Jerry gets so pissed? I'd rather not see him have a seizure again.
Anyone know what the longest conversion has been in college/pros? The longest I can remember is in the mid twenties.
Supposedly, according to a few sites, at the collegiate level, the longest ever converted was 3rd and 77 back in the 1930s in a game between Navy and Arkansas. As for the pros, I don't remember how long ago, but I think the Broncos once converted on 3rd and almost 40.
Minnesota is beating themselves.
Wasn't that a horrible call on Minny though? I was away and came back, and I don't have the volume on so I may have missed something, but the replay looked like offsetting extracurriculars.
Well you have to give it to them. Nobody in the stadium could have possibly predicted run in a 3rd and 49 situation.
Still did anybody see Minnesota only being down 7 at the half?
Right now but I was penciling in a Tech touchdown before the half.
Kudos to the Minn D for resisting even if the offense gets it in.
Gotcha. That was probably a smart prediction.
The punt was the cherry on the top of that series
It's bad when your punt doesn't pass the 1st down marker. Of course, in this situation you'd need Will H. to boom one to get it there.
punt did not even get close to the first down marker. awesome
Stolen from twitter.
Drive Summary: 10 plays, -14 yards
Must be another record. Poor Jerry.
But, what's his record when he's down by 3 at half in a high-scoring game? Methinks a lot of that record is when he was down my multiple touchdowns. Not really on point tonight regardless of what happens in the last minute. Dumb.
I can say with confidence that "now a national research university" will never appear in a B1G ad.
Guns up halol
Apologies if this is too political, but of the 11 airports where TSA confiscated the most guns trying to go through security (I imagine all of them were of the "I forgot it was on me" variety), 5 of them are in Texas. Atlanta had the most fwiw.
In yo FACE, Tay-hass!!! ATL 4EVA.
than the 2 rocket/gernade launchers LA police collected during their gun buyback program? Money quote: “This is not that unusual…`we’ve had them in the past.’”
Maurice Clarett was in town?
A kick return TD, brutal penalty call, and a 4th and 6 have TT up by 7, but the Gophers look to be a match for them so far.
Two fullbacks and a running back. Jerry Kill knows a little something about MANBALL.
Minnesota's scripts/fonts bother me. Their take on the "M" always makes me think of Mad Magazine and the jersey numbers are all kinds of jacked up.
And I'm still not sure their uniforms will look worse than Michigan's on Tuesday.
But they look like a decent team so far in the second half...GO, GOOPHERS (as long as it's not hockey)!
Personally, I think it's funny that we've laid such a firm claim on the block M that Minnesota won't dare use it.
Loving Minnesotas Man Ball!!
wow that sounded wrong
Texas Tech's team.
Big Tehhhnn! Go Minny!
HUGE defensive stand by Minnesota.
This game is a lot closer than I think many thought would be! I'm not sure what the line is but in the Yahoo Bowl Pick 'Em I'm in more than 90% of people thought Tech would win. So much for the wisdom of crowds if they can pull this out!
Tech by 12.5-13. It was one of the biggest spreads of the season.
Since when has Minnesota known how to play football?
Texas Tech is continuing the Big 12's tradition of not playing defense.
shockingly, i believe they have the most big ten titles behind michigan and osu. but considering they used to be a major player in the conference.....
Replay had been awful this year. How do they overturn that?
That broke the plane.
could be so much fun?
Why do teams try over and over to run between the tackles at the goal line? I get dominating people but the edge is sometimes very open and teams don't really seem too interested in running the outside zone...Just wondering?
Outside run plays take longer to develop. You need to be able to hold your blocks for a longer amount of time than you do for a run right up the gut, and that can be tough against a goal line D.
At this point I think I'm just going to root for Minnesota since I never expected them to even compete. GO BIG TEN!
I don't think Tech is playing anything close to their best football, but Minny is still all over the field. If they play like this next year, they'll win a lot more than 2 Big Ten games.
ALSO: Minnesota has some hot Cheerleaders.
"Keep on cheering through the up skirt shot"?
Minnesota's offense in conference play this year was at the bottom with Sparty. They scored 13 against us, 13 against Iowa, 13 against Northwestern, 13 against Wisconsin, 10 against MSU, 14 against Nebraska and 17 against Illinois.
Their only impressive game was scoring 44 against Purdue. (And I seem to recall folks here getting nervous when they saw how much Minny put up against the boilers.)
Now the Gophers look unstoppable on offense. Who is coaching Tech's D? Gerg?
IT AIN'T INTRAMURALS!!!
But they could use some protection on defense.
Who said the Big 12 was underrated and beat up on each other...yeah. At least one of their members is down 3 touchdowns vs. the spread and might be on their way to 4, to a bad football team.
Moral of the story? Don't get too high or down over one game.
And the bowl season is weird.
Why is it that Minnesota used to be maroon and gold, but now it's like brown? It looks stupid.
What kind of TV are you watching it on?
Though matte helmets seem to continue to do well.
It's the Matte Helmets. Tech needs to get with the times.
In 15 years
5 personal fouls on Tech. Mark Dantonio would be proud.
60 seconds of sound defense.
On a related note, will they pull a LeVeon Bell and think that the team in black and white beat them if they lose this game?
We'll have to see.
Either way way to rep the conference Minnesota.
It would say a lot for the future if the B1G could somehow go 5 of 6 in bowls. (MSU can blow.)
Dantonio recruits nationally; Texas Tech researches nationally.
It's a natural fit if you ask me.
Why is Gray playing QB now? Nelson was doing so well. Really questionable move there by Minnesota. Gray looked awful on those two throws.
Did Narduzzi take the Texas Tech job while I wasn't looking?
Ed.: I see Wolv. Hist. got there before me.
Great minds think alike.
Please win Minnesota. Please.
Dang ..an interception would a been huge
Update: two plays later it's 31-31
To a game that ended 12 hours ago?
Have you Quantum Leaped to your past?
Minny dominated the game but got too conservative on offense. This game should not be close.
I'd say it wasn't their offense that was the problem.
You knew Minn was going to pay for it when they didn't score on their last two possessions. But I think they might have a FG drive in them here.
It's not like Minny made some critical fumble here. They've been dominating. Tech played dangerous, chaotic football to try to get back into it and got lucky.
Edit: Okay, now you can say it.
Except for the huge breakdown in coverage that allowed the TT reciever to waltz into the end zone
Big tehhnnn :(
And that is why we call you MInneHaHa.
(*Removes hat, pukes in it*)
Why throw it there? You need seven yards, not 30.
Well, you need 30 pretty soon if you want to win.
But you don't even have to score in regulation there. Seven yards lets you kill the clock and go to OT.
this is typical big ten.
And that's Minnesota for you.
What I've learned from watching football today - it's hard to win with a shitty QB.
Fourth and 4 from the 40, up by 7. You convert and you win the game, Kill. You have to go for it there and put the game away.
The false start penalty they had at the beginning of that series looms quite large in retrospect.
I really really hope our conference does not get shut out in bowl season
That was disgusting.
That's why you don't go cover zero on 3rd down when you're winning minnesota...
Inverse prevent D. Incredibly dumb formation at that time.
This this this, all the way this. Why?
Thought the announcers were going to jinx it away.
Shit I thought he missed it the way that ball was kicked.
minnesota fans hate texas tech.
This is what they do, I mean....it's practically tradition.
It looked like the fg kicker blew it
Too bad it was only from 28
Wow. Minny handed them the game. Can't wait to hear "The B1G is outclassed every year in the bowls" for another 365 days. Michigan State better win tomorrow.
Fuck MSU. Go TCU.
that is all.
there'll be some sad thick-ankled women in East Dakota tonight.
After watching this game, I think it's safe to say that Texas Tech has a problem with ethics. That punch was ridiculous, as was the celebration, as was Mike Leach.
Minnesota gonna Minnesote out there. That's why YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME, not play to not lose it.
Well actually, I think Minnesota played to win a little too much.
Even when they have the game in hand they blow it. I smell an o-fer coming. If it weren't for the Big East we would would be the worst bcs conference by far.
Hold on. The Big Ten has played one bowl game and exceeded everyone's expectations in it (though it ended in a heartbreaking loss). Let's wait to see what happens the rest of the way.
I think Michigan gets the win!
I now understand the terms LOLphers.
Gophers lost it for the Big Ten, but Tech didn't cover.
something very important, B1G Teams usually have to play these bowl games against schools from the state they're playing or very close to it, this matters.
I don't care what analysts say, Minny was kinda impressive tonight and looked like the better team to me. Bowl games happen 4-5 weeks after season ends, just ruins the rythym and I hate it anymore really.
2014 can't come soon enough.
1st off, I think we can have a special season in 2013 if our O-Line plays up to potential despite being young.
in 2014, we'll have better top flight match-ups with the top four teams and then the other bowls will be allowed to be more selective for their games instead of having to take an average Big East Team or an NIU for example.
That's why, on 4th and 4 on the opponent's 40, with 3:30 to go and up 7, you go for it.
The 8th best team in the Big 10 lost to a team that was ranked in the top 10 in October. Minnesota got smoked by everyone in the Big 10 besides Illinois...
As easy as it is to say "BIG TEHNN", think about this:
This was an away game.
Minnesota had a freshman quarterback
Minnesota was supposed to lose handily (example picks were 45-17, etc.)
Minnesota is one of the worst teams in the Big 10
If Ohio and Penn State were eligible, Minnesota would be playing (and beating) Central Mich.
Texas Tech had the #1 passing offense in the country prior to tonight.
Minnesota was the 2nd highest underdog behind Purdue.
This close of a game wasn't supposed to happen, and yet it did, with Minnesota looking like the better team through *most* of the game. (definitely not the last 5 minutes).
There's a reason you didn't play up Texas Tech in your justification, and that would be because they sucked it up pretty hard too. They needed overtime against Kansas to not finish the season 0 for their last 5. Their claim to fame is that beat an inflated WVU team.
Did anyone mention this team had no head coach? Oops.
But you're missing the point that I'm trying to say - Texas Tech beat ranked team(s) and played in the *Big 12* so they were automatically thought to win since the Big 10 apparently is the "worst conference" because Wisconsin couldn't beat Oregon State (unranked at the time), Iowa lost to Iowa State, and Penn State v1.0 lost to Temple (who I think beat Rutgers). This whole BIG TEHNNN thing has got to die
You would kind of have a point if Minnesota actually won the game, but they didn't. They lost to a team that rode the West Virginia facade to the top 25 (which is not a solid argument in favor of Texas Tech) and then proceeded to get shallacked in the Big 12. Did I mention that this team also had no head coach?
The Big Ten may not be the worst conference, but they sure do a goob job of losing to everyone. The Big Ten has to actually win if you want that sentiment to die.
Endeth the thread!
Not so fast my friend.
Guess the Midas touch was incompatible with Meineke car care. Branding FTL
Heartbreaking loss for Minny, I was really hoping they would win and get the bowl season started off right for the big 10. I thought one of the big series that could have won them the game aside from punting with the 4th and 3 was when they put Marquis Gray in there for a series near the end of the game and had him throw it twice, both very overthrown balls
