Media day interviews: Butt, D Johnson, Kalis, Speight, Taco, & Shane

Submitted by Michigan Eaglet on

I know the transcript of the Kalis interview was already on the front page, but here are a couple other interviews with Jake Butt and Drake Johnson.

Embed below.

Edit: Added interviews with Shane Morris, Wilton Speight and Taco Charlton as well.

Man I'm hoping for good things for Kalis. Want good things for all of them obviously, but I hope Drevno can unlock Kalis' potential and turn him into the mean, nasty, first round potential lineman that we all envisioned him to be a few years ago.

When I was getting Kalis's signature the other day, I said to him, "THIS, is the year for the offensive line."

He said, "Just wait, we are going to be awesome this year."

And he was very serious, and very determined. He sounded like a true leader.

And I believe him.

The urgency conveyed by the players this year is extremely exciting. They're hungry, and they're hungry in a way I haven't seen for a while. This could be a special year.

On an unrelated note, the reporter interviewing Drake was possibly the worst I've ever heard.

Shane has just been oozing confidence lately. Love how he's not afraid to say he's gunna win the job and be the best qb he can be. Of course Rudock didn't come here to sit and I want the best qb to start but I'm really liking Shane's chances.

There's no doubt Shane has struggled in the small sample size we've gotten. But I still maintain that is due to Borges and Nuss wasn't around long enough to fix him. I just believe Fisch and Harbaugh can tap into his obvious potential and make a high level starter out of him. Like he said, he's a leg up on the playbook and he also already has chemistry with the wideouts. Surely Rudock is the safe bet to start but by no means is it all locked up.

Shane had terrible HS stats.  Yes he is 6.3 and can throw a ball through a brick wall, but that does not make a good QB.

I hope that he can improve and become a good backup and maybe spot starter if injury to whoever is #1

I haven't watched many interviews of Shane. However, there were two things that struck me from his interview:

1. He looks tired
2. He seemed uncomfortable answering these questions.

I'm not confident that he'll be the quarterback this fall.

I think the difference here - and not just for Speight but for quite a few players on the roster - is that last year these depth questions were pretty unsettling for various reasons, but now with everyone being evaluated by vastly different metrics, the same questions seem refreshing now. I am just enjoying having a well to go to at QB potentially.

And to hear "Shane and Alex were neck and neck" in the spring from Fisch doesn't help things.

I've said that I personally (no insight, no anything) believe Morris and Speight transfer after this season.

I think this year we look like this:

1. Rudock
2. Morris
3. Malzone
4. Speight

Next year we look like this:

1. O'Korn
2. Malzone
3. Gentry

Then you have Peters added to the mix the year after.
