Media Access after this weekend....

Submitted by DamnYankee on
Hello all, I have been out of town and am just getting around to digesting the news from this weekend. We have all praised Coach Rod for his openness and accessability to the media compared to the Carr era. It will be interesting to see if or how much things change going forward. He might not adopt Carr's snarl, but I won't be surprised if things change (possibly drastically) for the remainder of the season. FWIW - The media down here in Atlanta is taking a level-headed approach to the whole situation. I imagine if this happened at Georgia or Alabama it would be a much bigger story. http://www.ajc.com/sports/

I would love to see RR go all Lloyd Carr on the media. I enjoy having a bit more access, but we don't really learn all that much from most of the press conferences he holds. "We have 3 QBs, and we want them all to be good, not bad," etc. I'm imagining someone asking about the allegations today and him responding, "What kind of stupid question is that?"

Barwis is going to be screening all members of the press prior to interviews to be conducted with players. There will also be follow-up debriefing sessions with Barwis at a comfortable desk in the middle of a cage. Those with malicious intent will be then educated as necessary so as to discourage future discretions.

I would guess regardless of topic we will see much less details from players. They may all be sitting through some sort of speaking to the media class right now.

I agree with GBMW on this one. It's a tough to read article (as always), but it brings up a good point. Everyone wanted Carr to open the doors to the fort and let the media in, as soon as RR does the media writes a few bad articles and everyone wants the fort doors closed again. Even if we restrict access to the freep it looks like we're bullying the media and/or have something to hide. It doesn't seem like RR is doing anything wrong media wise, it'll just take a little bit of time for the reporters to get bored with all this new access they've been granted. Rosenberg was seduced by the dark side of the Force, he'll come around.

Lock the fucking doors. These assholes are going to drive RR out of town. Why would a coach want to work in a town where the media does nothing but bash you and your program? Even if RR goes 13-0 this season he will get no respect from these assholes. When was the last time the Columbus Dispatch ripped Tressel or OSU's football program (I would name other newspapers outside of Columbus if I knew any)? There is a reason why Lloyd hated these bastards.
