Mealer coverage in Columbus?

Submitted by StephenRKass on

So the coverage on Mealer has been pretty much unanimously positive at Mgoblog and UofM. How could anyone be grumpy? It's such a feel good story.

I'm curious, though, especially for those living in Ohio and in Columbus:  how has OSU covered the story? Do they ignore it? Give it props? Does it embarass them? Obviously, the story reflects very well on the generosity of the Strength and Conditioning Staff, and Barwis. But the fact that an OSU fan ended up on the Michigan team, and that an OSU student dissed OSU and is being treated at UM, has to grate on some. Any links on how they have covered this would be appreciated.

Their Worshiping the days since UM beat OSU counter on the C-bus dispatch hoping one day they can say "were .500 vs UM" in 5,000 plus days.

Plus if they did that it would somehow humanize UM and you cannot have that happen in Ohio, it might cause an Apocalyptic chain of events and mass suicides might occur.

Why would it irritate them? Are you serious? Listen, the OSU-Michigan rivalry is fun and makes for great academic and sports competition, but there are some things that trump that. Like a guy learning to walk again.

Per this article:

Brock was in the graduate program at Ohio State University during most of his workouts at UM and made the long trek from Columbus to Ann Arbor many times to workout with Barwis.

Funny that he takes classes in Columbus and commutes to AA to work out.  It doesn't necessarily reflect poorly on OSU for not doing this for one of their students, but it does raise the question of why not.

Also, just wanted to point out that the article calls it "Ohio State University", sans "the."  Made me chuckle, given this is an Ohio paper.

Ohio State fans legitimately are animals, and view this story with complete disgust, and are livid that he is mobile again because it happened in Ann Arbor. Everyone truly does hate Michigan, it's not just our perception.

Plenty of great Mealor coverage where I live. Of course, he's from here

This is a dumb thread and the insinuations within by some make me sad.

Ohio is chalk full of great people and every Buck fan I know of has mentioned something great about the Mealor situtaion. Because its an awesome story.

Some folks need to grow up, yo!
