McMillon cancels visit 6 hours after scheduling it

Maybe Bama boosters offered to pay for his house too?

where's timmmmay when you need him?
His avatar describes this comment.

In Bag Men there was mention of a going rate that it cost to get someone not to take a visit. I'd put money on that being the case right now.

I agree with you, but one thing I wonder is why would that tactic not have become a bigger thing?
Much like coaches floating their name out their to potential openings to gain a raise at their current job (with no intention of leaving), why wouldn't a recruit schedule a visit to pocket $2,500 in the same way?
A great read for anyone interested in this process: http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2014/4/10/5594348/college-foot…

But unlike coaches there aren't agents actively placing strategic phone calls to maxamize exposure. Quite the opposite, actually.

"Well, Michigan contacted my client about there coahing job. Where were we on negotiating that new contract?"
"Hello, 247 sports, please put out there that I have schedule a visit with Michigan"

to Hoke about visiting other schools and McMillion reconsidered becuase he did not want to lose his spot?
I don't doubt that bagmen schenanigans take place often in the SEC (i.e. Treadwell), but lets not act like every commit we lost got paid.
January 23rd, 2015 at 11:34 AM ^
Pretty much every 4 and 5 star recruit from the south is paid.

isaiah prince commits to bama on friday then takes a OV to TOSU saturday morning leaving monday morning. all the while he asked that it be kept on the down low, but he goes to the championship celebration that was on the BIG channel, lol. needless to say a bama site leaked it. saban's reaction will be interesting. i would take all my OV's also, enjoy the moment and order the biggest steak on the menu, lol, imo.

It brings me much joy to see a user named 'OccaM' state the most obvious conclusion...

Always appreciate the links; thanks.
Michigan's chances of flipping him were very low, so it's not a major negative that he's not coming. More resources can be put towards kids they have a good shot with.
January 22nd, 2015 at 11:45 PM ^
Is there a limit on how many recruits can visit officially on a given weekend at one time?
January 23rd, 2015 at 12:09 AM ^
Wouldn't think so.
However, there is a limit on the number of official visits a recruit can take. I'm assuming you already knew this though.
January 23rd, 2015 at 8:46 AM ^
offical visitors that a school can host.
January 22nd, 2015 at 11:41 PM ^
Maybe he already committed and said "see you in June."
January 22nd, 2015 at 11:41 PM ^
Good. If he's not serious about looking at Michigan, it's better that he doesn't visit.
January 22nd, 2015 at 11:43 PM ^
I think he was serious about UM, but Saban laid down the law.
January 23rd, 2015 at 12:07 AM ^
By this logic, he probably wasn't serious.
Can't fault the kid from exploring an opportunity that could risk his existing scholarship offer. That is, If he's not sure that it might be the right fit.
January 23rd, 2015 at 12:08 AM ^
Then I'm not sure he's that serious about UM. That's fine, and I don't mean this as a negative about the kid. If he was worried about his spot at Bama more than he was interested in looking at Michigan, that probably means he was unlikely to commit. It's probably better that he says that now and our staff can focus on other players. It's a limited time window and the quicker they can know, the better. Hopefully this means they can get players who are serious and likely to commit to come up to Michigan.
January 22nd, 2015 at 11:42 PM ^
Teams are starting to worry about Harbaugh already. I bet Bama told him "you go and your spot is not guaranteed anymore" Saban is worried and knows once Harbaugh begets his teeth into you and recruits you that it's hard to say no to him.

At least it wasn't Gentry. Would have been nice to poach one from Saban though.

So Saban has the same rule people ripped Hoke for?
January 22nd, 2015 at 11:53 PM ^
who ripped hoke for it and why?
January 23rd, 2015 at 7:03 AM ^
Fans of other schools. Mainly because they didn't get their linebacker present under the tree.

Ah well. Best of luck to him.
January 22nd, 2015 at 11:47 PM ^
Maybe Alabama "threaten" to rescind his offer if he did?
January 22nd, 2015 at 11:47 PM ^
example how a policy like the one hoke used works
January 23rd, 2015 at 6:50 AM ^
and many around these parts actually liked Hoke's policy

The bag men associated with certain schools pay potential signees one-time bonus payments not to visit a rival school that's offered a scholarship. The going rate is stated to be $2,500. This has become a popular tactic in recent years, as the recruiting process has become more publicized.
January 23rd, 2015 at 12:18 AM ^
In that case, he should "not visit" as many schools as possible.
January 23rd, 2015 at 12:26 AM ^
Can you provide any documentation for this assertion/claim?
Why can't some people on this board just accept that Michigan may not be for everyone and that when someone visits or commits elsewhere that nothing shady necessarily occurred?
January 23rd, 2015 at 1:36 AM ^
There was a post like this one on the 247 site comments but that one had a link and it didn't work. Would be interesting to read if there was more to go on.

Realistically, how many recruits does Michigan still have a shot at for this year?
Unrealistically, say Harbaugh isn't able to land a single recruit by signing day (February 3rd/April 1st), how deterimental is that?
Doesn't that just mean Harbaugh's next class can be huge and full of the guys he wants instead of fighting the scraps this year?
January 23rd, 2015 at 12:13 AM ^
1. All the recruits.
2. HWHAT
3. OKAYYY

Also the same stupid rehashed crap that got so overused from chappelle show.. People started heckling that at chappelle during stand up and he just sat on the stage and smoked the entire set
January 26th, 2015 at 12:13 AM ^
You know, you're being a bit of an ass.
January 23rd, 2015 at 12:16 AM ^
Big Ten caps yearly classes at 28 if I recall correctly. I'm unaware of our numbers for next year but even if it was possible to have a mega class it's unwise. We need bodies on campus ASAP.
January 23rd, 2015 at 12:48 AM ^
There are plenty of great "bodies" on campus now. Hoke's classes didn't get their high ratings via smoke and mirrors. I would be surprised to see as many as 20 recruits this year; 15 or 16 would be my guess. My hope is for a great class that has anyone who decommitted kicking themselves in the ass when they watch Michigan win a National Championship in a few years.
