I agree with you, but one thing I wonder is why would that tactic not have become a bigger thing?

Much like coaches floating their name out their to potential openings to gain a raise at their current job (with no intention of leaving), why wouldn't a recruit schedule a visit to pocket $2,500 in the same way?

A great read for anyone interested in this process: http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2014/4/10/5594348/college-foot…

to Hoke about visiting other schools and McMillion reconsidered becuase he did not want to lose his spot?

I don't doubt that bagmen schenanigans take place often in the SEC (i.e. Treadwell), but lets not act like every commit we lost got paid.

isaiah prince commits to bama on friday then takes a OV to TOSU saturday morning leaving monday morning. all the while he asked that it be kept on the down low, but he goes to the championship celebration that was on the BIG channel, lol. needless to say a bama site leaked it. saban's reaction will be interesting. i would take all my OV's also, enjoy the moment and order the biggest steak on the menu, lol, imo.

Always appreciate the links; thanks.

Michigan's chances of flipping him were very low, so it's not a major negative that he's not coming. More resources can be put towards kids they have a good shot with.

Then I'm not sure he's that serious about UM. That's fine, and I don't mean this as a negative about the kid. If he was worried about his spot at Bama more than he was interested in looking at Michigan, that probably means he was unlikely to commit. It's probably better that he says that now and our staff can focus on other players. It's a limited time window and the quicker they can know, the better. Hopefully this means they can get players who are serious and likely to commit to come up to Michigan.

Teams are starting to worry about Harbaugh already. I bet Bama told him "you go and your spot is not guaranteed anymore" Saban is worried and knows once Harbaugh begets his teeth into you and recruits you that it's hard to say no to him.

The bag men associated with certain schools pay potential signees one-time bonus payments not to visit a rival school that's offered a scholarship. The going rate is stated to be $2,500. This has become a popular tactic in recent years, as the recruiting process has become more publicized.

Realistically, how many recruits does Michigan still have a shot at for this year?

Unrealistically, say Harbaugh isn't able to land a single recruit by signing day (February 3rd/April 1st), how deterimental is that?

Doesn't that just mean Harbaugh's next class can be huge and full of the guys he wants instead of fighting the scraps this year?

There are plenty of great "bodies" on campus now.  Hoke's classes didn't get their high ratings via smoke and mirrors.  I would be surprised to see as many as 20 recruits this year; 15 or 16 would be my guess.  My hope is for a great class that has anyone who decommitted kicking themselves in the ass when they watch Michigan win a National Championship in a few years.
