Another terrible title but Sam sticks up for the program. I think we will be fine at RB for years to come but I wish Sam would have graduated a wolverine. I will end up following this kids career.
McGuffie backs Rich Rod
Poor Sam. It sucks to think of what could've been.
EDIT: after reading that article, it really seems like he never even slightly wanted to leave. I had the impression that that wasn't the case before.
He was homesick, but he did love Michigan. If Ann Arbor were in Texas, then he'd have no issue.
The problem is even easier than that... when your family tells you for years they're going to move with you to college and then, when the time comes, they're forced to stay behind because there are no job prospects near your university I imagine you take it pretty hard. Add multiple concussions and you get an all around awful situation for a kid his age.
Yeah, I hope things are good for him and his familia.
I hope he does well at Rice.
Is he eligible this year?
Nope. Next year.
Unless he received a special waiver because of his family situation (and I have not heard that he did), he has to sit out a year.
when he can't even remember anything that happened last year?
The kid played his heart out for Michigan. Enough of this joking around about him being concussed and not remembering the season/Rich Rod.
He's a good kid and deserves all of our respect. I really hope he makes a name for himself down there and gets back on track.
I agree. I only wish I said it first. Class post.
you guys do realize that it's not his fault he got concussions.
Either he is unlucky or he has some medical predisposition.
Stop ragging on him. He never did something to deserve anything but your respect as a player and a person.
I'm not a physician but I've heard that once you get a concussion it becomes easier to get the second, even easier to get the third, etc. I remember Threet's passes leaving him exposed for big shots by the defense on more than one occasion as well. Hope he has a good career down there at Rice. People here were unfairly critical of him.
If I had to try and get a few of those floaters over the middle from Threet, I probably would have had a had my spine severed in half. Good luck to him.
several wolverines past and present told the freep that M broke the rules. It has now become fact. Arghhhhhh MSM!!!!!!!
The BIG LIE has taken hold. The BIG LIE theory posits that if you tell a big lie often enough it is more likely to be believed that a little lie.
That is exactly what has happened. Lazy sports writers uncritically taking as fact that current and former players alleged that M broke the rules. No current players said M broke the rules, nor is it clear that even Boren, Wermers or Tone Clem made such conclusion. It was purely the authors' conclusion based only on the fact that the kids were working hard and that they had long days on some sundays.
Hopefully he can dominate at rice. By the way, I thought of a nickname for Sam....The Rice Rocket.
The Rice Burner
the Rice Steamer? Or does that sound too much like an insult?
Surprised no one brought up A.B. There hasn't been many pure raw athletes in Michigan since RoJo (and Gardener this year).
Talk about a kid who needed a redshirt year. Maybe that, and he stays and fulfills the promise he showed right in Ann Arbor.
But one of the toughest guys on the team last year. Man, he had the ND broadcast crew fawning over him and really enjoying his role in that game. I'll miss him and hope he has a fantastic career.
I love his name and love his game.
I wish he would have stayed at UM on a medical schollie. I hope he never plays another down of serious football. Concussions are serious business, and the full effects don't really appear until further down the road.
It is a lot more important that this kid has a great life than if he plays football.
He should visit these people:
It will be good for him to take the year off and rest...concussions take time to overcome... other than that he will have a good or great career and probably be happier down there than he would be up here
Sam was about the only bright spot early last year. Considering what he did behind basically a whole new O line that was terrible to start the year, I would have loved to see toward the end of the year when the blocking was much better. Even if he was only here for a year he left it one the field.
This just confirms that he's a stand up kid who I wish was still in the Maize and Blue. At least he transferred for a legit reason- family. I wish him nothing but the best! Thanks for the memories Sam!
A Wolverine at heart. I hope he just knocks them dead at Rice.
I'm glad so many people are still behind McGuffie. I've always liked him and felt for him when he transferred. Wish him nothing but the best.
