...is the season I expected from MBB this year. Some good wins, some awesome "highs"...then some WTF moments mixed with games that we struggle when we shouldn't. I still think we have a Sweet 16 type of team...I just think the road is going to up and down getting there. That said, I'm okay with that. In basketball you sub more when guys are off...in football Gardner goes back out there when he's a walking turnover because he gives you the best chance to win. I'm looking forward to seeing both teams get better as the seasons go along. Both could be dangerous in the postseason.

"preseason All-America first team in USA Today Sports' 2013-14 College Basketball Preview Magazine"

But

"USA Today College Sports....has McGary...came in with second team All big ten honors."

Wah? USA Today solid.

I know, I know: obvious things are obvious. But rare is the big man who can be a high-energy rebound and D-guy but can also slide back and pass from the high post or sink 12-6 footers. He's kinda good, you guys.

I believe the Sporting News put McGary on their preseason All-American team earlier in the month and I think they even named him their top player in the Big Ten overall. I will say, he is probably the player I am most excited to see from a development standpoint in this coming season.

This is great publicity for the season and gets the juices flowing for hoops season.   I think Mitch can match the hype.   He's a rare combo of high energy and skill.

Off-season improvement that I hope materializes during the season:   upping his FT% to the 65-70% neighborhood.    With all the contact he's capable of drawing, he could earn (or lose) a lot of points at the line this year.
