McCray may be announcing before 3/8 (EDITED)

Submitted by BostonWolverine on

The article's paywalled, but the info stays the same. Here's the tweet.

Josh Helmholdt @JoshHelmholdt

Rivals100 LB Mike McCray of Trotwood-Madison (OH) will not be announcing on Thursday now.

EDIT: According to Bill Greene (Scout OSU), his decision is coming tomorrow or Wednesday.

Sorry if I missed this earlier, and I am definitely not trying to be rude, but why do you post so much on this blog? I figured SEC fans would avoid B1G blogs like the plague (or higher education, for that matter). Sorry, had to make that joke.

Your support and insight is welcomed, don't misunderstand me. Just curious, I guess.

Was just going to post this. His next tweet though states that he just heard some good news that will make Michigan fans happy. Said info cant be released yet. Somone committed, but not McCray.

Wiltfong has ND ties and all...they were our main competition it seemed.  With RDT's comment in the other thread, this wouldn't be out of reach.

I'd Guess Either Isaac or Levenberry.  Probably Isaac.  From the tweet it seems like it's someone they're surprised is dropping right now.  Gedeon and/or McCray were both to be expected.

I doubt it is Levenberry. He seems like he will at least wait until the Spring Game. However, that would not surprise me too much if he did commit. He probably sees the writing on the wall with Gedeon, McCray, and O'Daniel all getting close to decisions and wants to make sure he is included in this class.

Y'all need to get a different hobby.  The incessant who's dropping their committment on what day, and every different tweet sending the board into new convulsions is too much.  Yes, that infamous multi-commit, blitz weekend back in February was fun, but this staff has shown they have it under control...just let it happen.

I'll probably get flamed for putting this, my humble opinion, out there, but so be it.  Many of you are  worse than some of the high-maintenance broads I've dated.

Just sayin...everybody needs to chill.

He is supposed to arrive here (campus) tonight for an unofficial. A decision may drop anytime between then and Thursday, but probably closer to tomorrow.

EDIT: Also remember he decided against a press conference and wanted to commit personally to the coaches, so yeah... put the pieces together and all signs point to good news with Mike McCray in the very near future.

If he's deciding on Wednesday or tomorrow and he's visiting today then there's about a 90 percent chance he's going blue.  He wouldn't move it up to announce his decision to go another place.

Are we witnessing Hoke changing the way recuiting will be done in the future?   With 13 already locked up and word that more will be dropping soon he is putting amazing pressure on borderline kids to commit now or get locked out.  Which means he can then focus on long shots and even the 2014 class of all things.

Did anybody see this coming?  Was Hoke known as a recruiter-savant at BG or SDSU?  I dont remember hearing any buzz on him as a master recruiter before he got here and the pace he's filling up this next class is nothing short of amazing.

It'll be interesting to look back at this in a couple of years and analyze the strategy.

Another advantage of finishing recruiting early is that you can actually focus on coaching during the season.

On the other hand, there are some potential downsides:

1. don't get to scout kids during summer camps

2. Don't get to see how they perform/develop during their senior years

3. don't have room to potentially take advantage of coaching changes after the season

To be fair Hoke can't exactly recruit SDSU and Ball State like he can Michigan.  As long as we keep this recruiting pace we will be national champs within 5 years with Mattison at D cordinator and his 5 star army.

Try from now on, seriously, Hoke has us in position already to be in contention every year. I really believe it will happen way before then, 5 years that is.

Also, I've indicated this before but feel compelled to mention again. I wrote Brian an email in the week between RR Firing and Hoke Hiring that he was pissing me off in his dismissiveness of Hoke. I wrote that he was an awesome recruiter, great motivator and extremely well liked and people followed him but I was not very tactful w/Mr. Cook, sorry Brian but I had to do it and now everybody can see what I was so passionate about.
