HUGE game for this young team! They were up big but they had the composure to hold off the Oakland run in those last minutes and come away with the W... great confidence builder going into the B10 season.. Go Blue!

We just held the 19th ranked team in points per game (averaging 80.5) to 29.5 below their average, and 12 below their previous season low.

Hey a reminder:

For just $15 you can get: ticket to Bryant (12/23), ticket to Purdue (12/28), ticket to Penn State (1/2), and a Maize Rage t-shirt.  All for just $15!  I just bought a pair - go check out MGoBlue and help fill the house during the holidays.

We doubled and tripled down on Benson and dared OU to beat us from deep, though we did rotate and close out on shooters well.

Reggie Hamilton went 6/14 from three, and the rest of Oakland's team 0/17.

Beilein knows what he's doing. Benson only took 8 shots and finished with 11 points after going for 26 pts / 11 boards vs. Tennessee.  Our defense locked him down and the rest of Oakland's squad couldn't carry the load.

A great win.  Very impressed by this team, and definitely think they have exceeded expectations so far.  An outside chance at the NCAA tournament is there if they get some breaks.

Had a great defensive gameplan today. Benson was frustrated all game and never got into a groove. Its nice to have big guys that can bang down low if need be. Novak had a great game rebounding, defensively and cleaning up at the end

I haven't followed the team that cosely yet but this is another impressive win. Are people changing their expectations for the Big Ten season based on the non-conference performance?

this was a big win for us. Oakland is a solid team who will probably win the Summit League and make the NCAA Tournament. I love the way our young guys play together. Really impressed with Morris (the Denard Robinson of the basketball team in terms of offseason improvement), John Beilein's coaching ability, and our low post defense against Benson.

Count me as impressed with that win.  Oakland will more than likely be a tournament team and that was a convincing win.  I like what Beilein is doing and I'm very impressed with the improvement of Morris.  Good things are coming...

on D.   They pretty much took Benson out of his element and forced Oakland's lowest scoring game of the year.  The only negative take away from that game was all of the transition buckets they missed right under the net.  I think I counted about 3-4.

Michigan was 10-2 going into conference play in 2008, and (providing we get a win over Bryant), it appears Michigan has a shot at going 10-2 preconference again this year.

The problem?

In 2008, Michigan notched 2 wins over Top 5 teams (UCLA, Duke).  One of their losses was to Maryland (by 5) and the other to then No. 10 Duke.

This year, Michigan has a 3 point loss to 'Cuse and laid an egg against UTEP.

Even if Michigan can somehow manage No. 3 Kansas, I just don't see 9-9 in conference play working, unless there's some upsets (Purdue, Mich State, Ohio State, Illinois, Wisconsin, etc.) on the way.

True, but I believe the Big Ten is stronger this year (or at least, it seems so) than it was then.  I think our RPI/SoS will be sufficient for us to get a nod if we can go 9-9.  We'll see.

(FWIW, that UCLA team we beat i'n '08-'09 was in the top 5 at the time we played them, but ended up more like top 20-25.)

Very impressive performance!  Horford's frame, though lanky, gives him leverage to play some great defense, and his overall decision-making ability has improved, as has our defense.

Darius is going to be a special player, and Morgan and Smotrcyz look like they're beginning to blossom.

we're spreading the ball around.  I would much rather have everyone on the team averaging near 10 points than 2 players averaging 30 because if they're off, you're toast.

And not good tasty toast.

Burnt toast.
