Horford needs to learn how to keep the ball off the ground when he catches it in the post. He always gets stripped by the 2nd defender.
January 18th, 2011 at 9:41 PM ^
at least he finally missed a three
January 18th, 2011 at 9:41 PM ^
we really needed to win one of the big home games ... these road games just suck
January 18th, 2011 at 9:45 PM ^
not over yet...we've had some good second halves...always hope
January 18th, 2011 at 9:45 PM ^
This is humiliating. That Morgan... god.

sometimes i forget morga is just a feshman ... shows a ton of promise but has a bit of c. sims in him
January 18th, 2011 at 9:46 PM ^
threw a ball out of bounds on a fast break, missed 3 ft's, and the missed dunk.
January 18th, 2011 at 9:47 PM ^
The thread predicting a Morgan coming out party was less than prescient.
January 18th, 2011 at 9:46 PM ^
of one of those pick-up games at the CCRB where some of the brothers would get dumbfounded by the short asian kids that would just make everything they threw up.

January 18th, 2011 at 9:54 PM ^
When Northwestern actually had a short chubby Asian kid on the roster, back when they were playing the Fab Five in garbage time, and even the Michigan guys were cheering him to make a basket just because he looked so out of place out there.

<br>Safe to say, Amaker Harvard player he was not.
January 18th, 2011 at 9:46 PM ^
What on earth was that defense leaving the roll man open. Good god.
Good. God.
January 18th, 2011 at 9:59 PM ^
thats why pick and roll D is so tough against a team that spaces the floor so well.
1 Horford's hedge wasn't good enough making the pass easy
2 Hardaway didn't 'lock and trail' on the ball handler - he has to bust his ass to get back in front of him so Horford can recover to his guy.
3 D Morris had to help earlier on the roll man.. but was worried about leaving his guy for 3.
4 Another way of helping could have came from Novak pinching down on the ball handler which wouldve required less help from Horford - but when he is guarding Shurna he can't help off. A stretch 4 is so so valuable in a PnR offense.
I think the best thing would be for Zach to 'stunt and recover' where he jumps out on the ballhandler to encourage the pass and already be recovering by the time its thrown. But really this action is probably the hardest to defend in basketball. That's why every NBA team runs it and IF the floor is properly spaced (harder to do in college w/ the closer 3pt line), college teams can be lethal with it as well. Almost every dunk we get is from Jo Mo off the pick and roll.
January 18th, 2011 at 9:47 PM ^
idk, personally i like seeing them at least try to dunks, laying that up would remind me too much of courtney sims
January 18th, 2011 at 10:00 PM ^
Not sure why Shon Morris suddenly went old-school wanting a layup, a dunk is the safer shot. Layups are blown all the time too shon.
January 18th, 2011 at 9:47 PM ^
Let me know when we actually set a screen inside
I can't remember the last time i saw a hard pick off of one by this team
2008 maybe
and great D right their, let the White swamp thing just get 2 unguarded
January 18th, 2011 at 9:49 PM ^
this team reminds me of my high school coach, "when in doubt rise and fire"
January 18th, 2011 at 9:49 PM ^
At least it is an entertaining blow out
January 18th, 2011 at 9:50 PM ^
But they will get better. Maybe. If JB can keep his players from transferring. And play some defense. I don't know, he's just not a Michigan Man coach. He's no Fisher. I think JB should have gradually installed his offense to best suit Amaker's skill players. It won't work in the BigTen.

not so much after the 10083902341239th time
January 18th, 2011 at 9:56 PM ^
Not in the mood.
January 18th, 2011 at 10:11 PM ^
Yeah thank god Belein's teams have, ya know, beaten a few good teams in his time here... And oh hey they competed with some elite teams as well. Thank God we're not getting blown out by 20 every single game
January 18th, 2011 at 9:51 PM ^
You've got to say - Northwestern's ball movement is spectacular today. They are putting on a clinic.
January 18th, 2011 at 9:56 PM ^
That's what she said.
January 18th, 2011 at 9:51 PM ^
Score is 44-31 NU at the half.
January 18th, 2011 at 9:54 PM ^
we'll go on a nice little run, make it competitive, maybe even take a lead somewhere around the 9 minute mark.
Then gag like a cormorant with a 3# herring, and lose by 9.
Prove me wrong.
January 18th, 2011 at 10:24 PM ^
Unfortunately, they seem to have proven your first paragraph wrong.
January 18th, 2011 at 10:29 PM ^
it was best case scenario.

I just actually typed all those. This hurts.

for our worries.
1. Plug your ears.
2. Close your eyes.
3. Start saying GREG MATTISON GREG MATTISON GREG MATTISON KELLEN JONES GREG MATTISON MILA KUNIS GREG MATTISON repeatedly.

Assembly Hall.
Looks like we'll have some wins at home against the weak 2-4 teams, a couple of oh-so-close losses at home against decent foes, but not much good will likely happen on the road.
Our soft preseason schedule skewed expectations, i fear.
January 18th, 2011 at 9:58 PM ^
This offense is just not the answer
Morgan is soft as Charmin inside offensively, don't even let me talk about Horford
I don't care how young they are !
Like i said, get a quality big man, get some scoring inside , only way Coach B's offense is worth a daam
January 18th, 2011 at 10:12 PM ^
So, let me get this straight: you are complaining about a freshman and a redshirt freshman who was hurt all of last year for being "soft inside?"
I don't know if you have noticed or not, but unless you have TSIO money or your name is John Calipari, you can't just walk up to the "quality big man" tree and pick someone who will dominate as a freshman. Do you think JB has just been sitting around with his thumb up his ass, saying "we don't need big men, let's just recruit 'tweeners" and that he isn't out there recruiting just as hard as anyone else is?
Most of us would have been satisfied with a .500 season before this one began. Maybe some of us should be a little more paitent with a very young team. The great thing about young teams is that they get older all on their own. And when they do, they have a lot of experience from having had to start early.
I won't tell anyone what to do, but maybe you would be happier if you just relaxed a little bit and tried to enjoy the growing process of some kids that may eventually do their school proud.
Or, you can just continue to whine. Whatever.
January 18th, 2011 at 9:59 PM ^
He has the ugliest shot that I have ever seen. Almost like Shawn Marion's, yet somehow they always go in. He also looks like he has no athletic ability at all, but he is torching us. So far in the Big Ten this year he hasn't done shit. What happened to our good defense the last two games!?
January 18th, 2011 at 10:10 PM ^
I think the 18 year old freshman are getting tired legs and tired minds.
January 18th, 2011 at 10:00 PM ^
FIRE BEILEIN!!!!
Not really.
But seriously, WTF?!?!
January 18th, 2011 at 10:17 PM ^
I like Beilein, but they only have a limited number of really winnable big 10 games and they really forgot to show up for this one. Defense has been pathetic.
January 18th, 2011 at 10:01 PM ^
I have a feeling DB is gonna be leading a new coaching search soon
January 18th, 2011 at 10:04 PM ^
to be positive
January 20th, 2011 at 12:47 PM ^
Oops. Double post. Damn work computers.
January 18th, 2011 at 10:37 PM ^
you mean as late as possible to screw recruiting, then you may be on to something. Seriously though, I am beginning to wonder if there is some sort of West Virginia curse on us. This is getting ugly.
January 18th, 2011 at 10:03 PM ^
There's no way Shurna can keep that up after the break, right?
Right?
January 18th, 2011 at 10:07 PM ^
We need to get Smotrycz some confidence. He looks like a kid who’s really confused right now on both sides of the ball.
January 18th, 2011 at 10:09 PM ^
D Mo got fouled there.... but he had a switch w/ Juice thompson on Jo Mo... hes gotta back it out and do a post entry.... cant let em get away with switching.
January 18th, 2011 at 10:11 PM ^
Novak with an open 3 and airball
I swear Douglass and Novak have regressed since their freshman year
these offeneisve schemes by Coach B are Piss Poor
January 18th, 2011 at 10:18 PM ^
is the main reason. Lots of cuts to nowhere and the screens are just fill and replace. Where are the back cuts?
January 18th, 2011 at 10:11 PM ^
That pass over Stu's head sums up this one. That was pathetic.
