MBB vs. MSU Game Open Thread

Submitted by M-Wolverine on

OK, we're almost an hour away from the biggest game in John Beilein's Michigan career, which makes it just about the biggest in recent Michigan Basketball history. For some of you, you might not have been alive long enough to remember anything bigger.  If we lose, we can probably pinpoint bigger games, but if we win, and can follow it up with a Tourney appearance (showing going isn't just a fluke), turning a corner (if not actually catching up) against MSU, which can only help on the recruiting trail, and to basically not have all the positive momentum derail, there's no way to overstate how big that would be.  Which makes this afternoon BIG.  If ever we needed basketball to GO BLUE, it's today.  Let's do it.

Up 8 at the half with no points from THJ and limited minutes from Jordan Morgan.  I don't think we could ask for much better.

THJ needs to step it up and Morgan needs to stay in the game in the second half though.

I love what we're getting from Evan and the defense has been tenacious. I'd like to see a second half gameplan similar to the start of the first by attacking the basket and FORCE them to stop sticking to Timmy. So far he hasn't had a great look really. He's been an obvious focal point for Sparty.

Obviously can't watch the game in NY, but it sounds like the offense is chugging along reasonably well and the defense has stepped up.  Summer and Appling are basically the whole offense for MSU and that probably won't continue into the second half, while you figure Hardaway will get going a bit.  Would have liked to be up double digits, but this team is playing really well right now and they clearly are not afraid of MSU.

With Morgan on the bench for 10-ish minutes, Hardaway not scoring, and Morris not playing particularly well.

6-point run at the end notwithstanding, that's about as good as we could have expected given the 1st half problems.

They need to come out and curb stomp sparty.  MSU is playing like they just want the season to be over and if they jump out early again, victory will result

obvious that these announcers are completely bias towards Michigan State, as well as clueless about Michigan in general. Even the halftime guys didn't say a word about anything Michigan was doing.

How many more times will they call Hardaway Jr, Rice?  It's getting.  My daughter (she's 6) said she's glad there's no Butterfly talk today because she's sick of it.

Everything I feared happened the first half (Morgan foul trouble, Hardaway silenced and nobody getting hot from 3P land) and we are up.

Not bad, not bad at all.

The few forced 3's and Stu leaving his man wide open to help is driving me crazy, but we are in a very good position considering the foul trouble and quiet start by Hardaway Jr.
