MBB vs. MSU Game Open Thread

Submitted by M-Wolverine on

OK, we're almost an hour away from the biggest game in John Beilein's Michigan career, which makes it just about the biggest in recent Michigan Basketball history. For some of you, you might not have been alive long enough to remember anything bigger.  If we lose, we can probably pinpoint bigger games, but if we win, and can follow it up with a Tourney appearance (showing going isn't just a fluke), turning a corner (if not actually catching up) against MSU, which can only help on the recruiting trail, and to basically not have all the positive momentum derail, there's no way to overstate how big that would be.  Which makes this afternoon BIG.  If ever we needed basketball to GO BLUE, it's today.  Let's do it.

Hope everyone has a nice pair of shoes that are good for dancing ready.

Also, I hope MSU misses the tournament, not because I dislike them very much (which I do), but because of every time the announcers claimed this game wasn't important for them.

God, Iove this team.  We'll probably never experience a season quite like this again in our lives, going to the NCAA tournament in a year when no one expected us to even approach .500.  Beilein has a job for life.

How many days now Sparty? haha Can you imagine if Michigan draws MSU in the Big Ten tourney at some point and beats them a 3rd time! Man that would be something right there.

What a job by these players and this coaching staff.  No Thad Motta and Beilein would be runaway coach of the year in this conference.

Even though football is king in most of our hearts, there isn't much sports wise that beats watching the selection show on Sunday waiting for that Michigan name to be called.

I don't disagree. Painter is a fabulous coach. Still, Seth Davis from CBS said that Purdue likely has two of the best players at their position in the country.

We might have one of the best freshmen in the country, after that we have only 1 guy that might even get honorable mention all league this season.

But your point  is a very good one.  Motta will get it if they handle Wisconsin and win the league out-right though.

I just love the way this team plays.  They talk on defense, they make the proper rotations, everyone's moving... just a beautiful thing to watch.

Offensively... well... lol... let's just say there's lots of cringing going on when shots go up... but that's fine, I love the confidence our shooters have...

I still believe we need at least 1 more win in the Big 10 tournament to solidify ourselves in the big one... I'd rather not be a play-in team...

Big win today.  If this team is this fun to watch now... wow...

I took a trip to The Only Colors to read their aftermisery thread (and some of the game thread comments).

They're harping on the refs, saying that because MSU had been on top so long that this year all of the refs got together and agreed to bring MSU down.  They also chose to focus on Darius Morris running his mouth at Kalin Lucas as time ran out.

Apparently the two had to be separated during the post-game handshake.

Also, they attacked our lack of class, etc.

A lot of talking out of their ass -- only a few people talked about their shooting troubles and how U-M downright stumped them on defense.

My favorite is Sparty dismissing this season with the predictable argument of, "Michigan taking advantage of our worst team in 10 years...hur, hur", while ignoring the irony of that argument with regards to their football team.

By the way can we tell MfaninOH to shut the fuck up now....any of u that have followed past open threads of MBB games he talked how we had absolutely no chance of making the tourny especially after the Ill. game I would like to personally say u can eat a dick because we are more than ever in at this point just as I said after the loss to Ill.  Don't care if this gets deleted but he pissed me off by continually putting this basketball team down. Go Blue!!!!!!! Lets make a run in the BTT tourny boys o yea and that first round bye looks pretty dam good too

I tell ya.  Other than for a few minutes at a time today, Sparty looked like I've never seen them look before: Rattled.  Something wrong with that team.  Very un-Izzo.

Idk why but for some reason it seems like ever since Rich Rod left, Michigan has been gaining a lot of good positive momentum, makes me excited for the future. GO BLUE!!
