I think Paul could put a little more arc in his shot...
MBB vs. Illinois OPEN THREAD
Morgan misses layup they make a 3, (should've been a 4 point play, Morgan fouled him). 5 point swing their way
UM's gonna screw around and let Illinois backin this.
I don't know what it takes for us to get a foul this half
If it's also a felony?
I kinda want to win when UI gets no fouls
Home court hasn't meant anything today
We are actually playing pretty poorly right now. Illinois is shooting 19%. We should be up by 20.
Dear Maize Ragers that half-ass Blues Brothers: you suck.
Children of Yost >
It was at the same time that they were throwing out free t-shirts.
Lovin me some Fratty Brogrich these last two games
Our bench has been gigantic today. This must be a season-high for them.
OMG a foul
Woahhh, what was that?
They called a foul on Illinois!!
Hey they call a foul.
Morgan offensive rebound putback and 1!!!
HEY A FOUL!!!! Also Vogrich is nails right now.
OMG! The refs finally called a foul on the Illini this half. Captain Morgan FTW!
Captain Morgan! Jesus Rafferty....
Captain Morgan was priceless! Apparently has a little Freudian in him!
Weber is excellent at coaching his team to rebound offensively and to play "no foul" defense. Unfortunately for Illinois, their team is a turnover machine that can't shoot straight.
Love the sarcastic cheers from the Maize Rage
2 fouls in row on them? Someone call Ripley's because I don't believe it!
Another foul? I may faint.
If Griffey doesn't go pro, Illinois could be tough next year.
The ref just made a gesture against Illinois on our side of the court. Can someone explain what that means?
I think he was telling Webber to get off the court
Damn it come on what are we doing?
And they just referred to jordan morgan as captain morgan hahaha
Blatant grab on Burke right in front of the ref. Come on, open your eyes.
And then Weber walks five feet on the court during play. T him up!
Can't let them back in this
Frankly it's embarassing that this Illinois team is still in the game.
With the number of missed calls, it's impressive that the game isn't closer.
these refs are not very good
This is getting stupid with the damn refs.
This could unravel quickly. We need a bucket.
So much for evening up the calls. We're going to have to beat the Illini and the refs.
Burke, Hardaway, Smotrycz first half scoring: 32.
Burke, Hardaway, Smotrycz second half scoring: 2.
(Oh, and the refs.)
Burke has disappeared this half
gotta make the ft's when we get them
I like the to post, but usually with something more interesting
Free throw conversions are your friend
gotta make the ft's when we get them
Freenthrow conversions are your friend
The rare triple post!!
Hitting the save button was just too enticing to stop!
Lets just end the game on this possession
I like rebounds
Well I guess we killed about a minute of time with those 3 possessions there, but we really need some buckets.
Freethrow conversions are what now?
With the only misses by Jordan Morgan. That's not bad. 0-3 by Morgan is bad but he does play center.
now way should Illinois be this close!
Burke hasn't been getting the rolls around the rim all game.
Burke is having a very bad half
man illinois' passing is atrocious
Burke- why no alley-oop Timmy?
Illinois has some nice talent but that coaching must be awful
Are the announcers drunk?
Thats what I want to see THJ doing.
I love the driving but we need to be shortening this game up. Run the possession clock down and drive please
did he just say Michigan Stadium looks like Lambeau Field the way it is designed? No sir. Lambeau Field looks like Michigan Stadium the way it is designed.
and complained to the tv idiots a little bit. How in the hell does someone compare Michigan Stadium to something else; unbelievable!
wtf was that
cutting up the M court and giving every player a piece. nice job.
FUCKING MOVING SCREEN ON THEM!
Smotrcyz just got completely elbowed out of the way on that three
Did they not see our guy dragged down, WTF
smotz eats court and no foul called
should have been a foul before the shot on Illinois. Glad to see that I'm not the only one that saw that.
I guess we can get shanked during a box out and not have a foul called.
**** these refs for real.
okay, so you call a moving screen, which, come on nobody calls that and then Smot tries to get into the corner and gets knocked on his ass: no foul! FUCK YOU.
I am really starting to despise basketball refs. They have so much influence on the game, it's ridiculous.
If you want to talk about the other foul that's legit though.
Michigan is having to beat two teams today, the Illini and the refs.
If they are going to call a fucking moving screen on Smot, you have to fucking call that last one of Illini....wow wtf
I'm thinking 66-64.
Smotz blows...moving screen...use your head
Only Michigan commits fouls it seems.
Okay, make free throws now. We should be able to salt this away now.
be averaging 6 free throws a game no problem.
Alright that should do it.
CBS + Illinois fouling = me late for a 3:30 appointment.
Just let this finish. Come on Illinois.
Jesus just end the game
WOW, shocker another Michigan foul!
How many fouls have we been called for this half? 13? 14?
Not being called for fouls comes in handy.
why are we fouling?
This is getting ridiculous. Just let the game end.
Why would you call a foul there, why?
Sad thing is they were fouled harder during the game then these intentionals and they werent called.
Hmm, what's the Vegas line for this one?
These refs must really want their TV time to let this game go this long.
Illinois is intentionally trying to foul us on every possession and the refs are calling each team for the same number of fouls.
Get this game over.
gg refs /s
Horford was dressed today. Good sign for the future maybe or too late to burn the red shirt?
Horford's been dressing for weeks. He said they're not burning the redshirt unless they absolutely have to
Beileins West Virginia team the last year he was there looks exactly the same statistically as it does at M
We won, 70-61.
Nine B10 wins . . . I think we are in the tourney.
Despite the horrible officiating.
Finally its over. Good win today from the guys, being able to overcome that many BS fouls and still get the win. There is no way this game should have only been a 9 point win. THJ had a nice game looks like he made extra effort today to drive rather than settle for threes and long twos. Looks like those bench players are starting to pick their games up at the right time.
good win boys
good win boys
Because it end with, you know, that Ohio shot against Michigan last season.
Michigan could conceivably win the conference. Didnt see that coming.
Man i am not one to complain about refs, but damn that was poor. I have seen less pulling in a tug of war game
That Turner shot was two seasons ago.
Anyone want to give a recap for those of us that missed it?
M took control early behind some good shooting by Hardaway (!) and Smotrycz (!!). Never really blew it open, but the lead was between six and fourteen for basically the entire game after the 10 minute mark or so. Key was Illinois turnovers leading to fast break points, which we won like 19-0 or something silly. They killed us on the offensive glass, unsurprisingly. Vogrich made both of his three point tries and I think is 5/5 in the last two, so that's a good sign.
Officiating sucked, at one point calling nine straight fouls on us and getting Morgan, Hardaway, and Novak in foul trouble.
The major takeaway is that Hardaway and Smot might be breakout out of their slumps, and Vogrich making threes. If those things are true, we're a much more dangerous team. Have five days off until Ohio comes to town.
Sounds like we played well...
Against Ohio we're going to have to shoot well again. But I'm worried about the boards we're giving up. I think we're relying on the starting lineup too much and we're not mixing it in with the old starting lineup (Stu out, Smotz in) enough. We can't play the whole game with Morgan/Novak or Smotz/Novak...we need to play Morgan/Smotz more...and if that means play Novak at the 3 and Hardaway at the 2, so be it.
Stat of the day 7-16 from 3. If we shoot like that from 3 the rest of the year (and limit our 3 point attempts), we will be a force. Hopefully Smot and THJ broke out of their slumps today.
Need the hot hand to continue into Saturday night. Also, whoever mentioned the offensive boards is right. It's one thing to give them up due to Leonard swatting the ball to teammates who miss the 2nd and 4th chance opportunities, but OSU does and will capitalize (as we've seen already) on 2nd chance shots. Sullinger is a beast on the glass, along with the a few of the other awesome athletes they have. Michigan needs to find a way to neutralize them on the glass somehow.
One thing Michigan St. was able to do yesterday that helped them was garner most of OSU's misses -as they were cold as ice- and not let them get offensive board after offensive board. Michigan is infamous for giving them up and it kills them. We'll see next weekend if we can even out the rebounding margin, but it's a crucial matter in OSU's ability to beat us and for Michigan to win it needs even out.
Team really seems to have it at Crisler. Trick is going to be to use these last few road games to establish the ability to win away. THJ starting to take better shots and make those he takes is a big, big deal. Rebounding sounds like a big problem, but I think Belein is purposefully sending fewer guys to crash to limit transitoinal buckets and make opponents work the court to earn their points against us. Given the size we give up to almost everyone, that seems like a sound strategy.
If we win out, OSU beats MSU... we all finish 12-4 and 1-1 vs each other. How does seeding work for BTT?
Tiebreaker is in games played amongst all the teams. Right now we are 1-2 vs. them.
