a terrible blight on our fine country
Man...THJ is really, really struggling this year. The effort seems to be there, I'll give him that much credit. But come on man!
How do you see effort? I see selfish, sloppy play.
I'm guessing that the coaches are telling him he is an important part of the offense, so he probably feels like he needs to carry the load. I mean, he is clearly an important part of our offense.
I don't necessarily think it's selfish of him to take a lot of shots, as someone needs to score, but I do agree that he has a quick trigger and forces up too many contested 3s.
I dunno, I just get the feeling that he cares a lot and wants the team to do well.
you have pretty much reached neg on sight status!
I see him taking off down court before we've even secured rebounds. He seems to be playing for himself.
Again, this could be a coaching thing. A lot of teams will have guards release early in the hopes of fast breaks, ie UCLA a few years ago with Kevin Love patrolling the lane.
Obviously we don't have a Love-caliber rebounder, plus Belein's philosophy doesn't emphasize rebounding as much as a lot of coaches, so who knows.
All I'm saying is, it's easy to call a scorer selfish when he's struggling. When THJ was knocking those shots down last year, no one called him selfish.
Arkansas 46 Michigan 33 HALFTIME FINALLY
Eh... Arkansas returned to reality and we're down 13. Were down 20. Let's not go crazy.
Well that was pretty much the worst case scenario.
Down 13...could be alot worse. As long as Smotcryz and Hardaway don't touch the ball we should be ok.....
On the bright side, I'm gonna go ahead and guess that THJ is back in Ann Arbor next year.
That's a bright side? I'd rather have him leave for the NBA if he's gonna play like he has this year next year.
still doable. Just need a hot streak coming out of the locker room. And, Timmy, hold onto the darn ball!!
Beilein's halftime speech needs to include some version of the up up down down left right left right B A cheat code that Arkansas used to shoot in the first half.
I don't think Contra will help, but who knows..
arkansas scored a point on every possession they had from about the 7:30 mark, except the last one of the half.
edit: forgot they turned it over once.
Well, they're shooting percentage is almost double ours (65 to 39), yet we are still "only" down 13....maybe there is a chance.
I somehow feel we'll still win this game. They can't possibly continue to shoot like this.
I Have a feeling we'll be right in it at the end.
That was a fun first half. M ain't in bad postition. 13 down in this type of game isn't too much to overcome. Watch M battle back in the 2nd half. This is what I love about this team. They battle til the end
Great thing about sports is that anything (almost) is possible, and this game is definitely not a lost cause.
First five minutes of this half could be key. If we could get it under 10 we're right in it.
Assuming Ark cools down...if Burke can remember to look to pass when he penetrates and Hardaway can remove his head from his ass, we can win this.
Timmy is in a bit of a sophomore slump
just a bit?
I think he's still adjusting to the loss of Morris. Burke is awesome but not yet as good at finding open shooters.
the only good thing about this game is that it doesn't affect the BIG TEN standings
I turned on the game late and heard the announcer say Arkansas was 10-10 from the floor. Arkansas can beat any team in the country shooting as well as they have this half. If it continues into the second half, good work Arkansas, that's ridiculously good shooting. We just have to hope they actually miss the shots they normally miss. Otherwise, there is no defense against never missing shots.
And it's not like we weren't contesting a lot of their shots. Yes, a bunch of open looks were given, but some of their cross-over/super spin shots were pretty well defended with a hand in their face.
Hoping Arkansas comes back to reality shooting in the 2nd half
I was not planning on drinking yet. NOW I AM ANGAR.
need to chip away at this!
between analysis and bitching about players. Don't anyone in here "GoSparty" the rest of the game. This is bad. Comments like THJ is lazy, ball hog, etc.
They will come back to earth.
Good news and bad news.
Bad: down by 13 at half.
Good: there is no way Ark will shoot 65% in the second half. When the junk shots stopped falling their lead diminished.
Beilein is an excellent coach and make solid second half adjustments. This game is not over, Arkansas' style is ripe for comebacks.
I cannot stand the CBS broadcasting crew. Not so much Kevin Harlan but everything else including the halftime. Maybe I'm just annoyed.
they are pretty bad. i've never cared much for seth davis. seems like he just regurgitates main stream media comments. jay bilas is 100 times better.
to get a room in EL?
Purdue brought cash. they only trade cigarettes as a form of currency in east Lansing.
Delayed and finally canceled their flight. They ended up getting ON a bus at like 3 in the morning and arriving at 5 am. I think in that condition my fraternity intramural team might have had a chance against them. I would not hang my head if I was a Purdue fan over that game.
But I think this ends up being a game we win and at the end wondering how it happened.
You're crazy. Team was not ready to play and it will cost them.
Unbiased analysis: Seth Davis is a prick
lol. So true.
Trey playing like a leader once again, he's keeping us somewhat alive. Arkansas CAN'T have a second half like the first fan they? Assuming not, Michigan is only down 13 right now, though it feels like 20 to us at home. This game is far from over and the Novaks and Stuart Douglas's of this team (and coach Beilein) will get them rallied for the 2nd half.
Rebound. Rebound. Rebound. Get the 50/50 balls we should be getting. Slow them down, I like the zone looks. Michigan needs to chip away, obviously, but THJ needs to settle for only the wide open 3's and otherwise get to the rack. I think Smotz needs to arrive today also for Michigan to have a shot; keep battling for rebounds, hit a few shots, and get to the foul line.
Michigan ain't outta this. I could be wrong but I foresee an interesting 2nd half. The Maize can win this thing (assuming the Gods feel they've done enough for Arkansas' shooting!).
That would be awesome if we actually had more than one Zack Novak and Stu Douglass.
is 46% FG @ Home per an AK fan. So, if they return to it, could be a good second half.
I wish we were playing Alaska (AK) instead of Arkansas (AR).
I wasn't sending snail mail.
46% is still > 39%. If we don't shoot better in the 2nd half, we're done.
i went to cbs sports website to check out the 1H box score. it shows smotrycz as "did not play". i think they are right.
