I hope you don't mind me starting this, LSA... Sindarius Thornwell had one more assist and only two fewer field goals than Michigan's entire team. This strikes me as an undesirable balance. Are Walton and Irvin just not guys who can lead a team over a long stretch?

Why would an athlete come to a team that passes around the perimeter until a 3 opens up? Saginaw Flint and the PSL literally laugh at our recruiting interest.

Jalen Rose needs to lead an intervention within the athletic department.

You're right. The offense is so simple. It's exactly as you said. It isn't like there is a single other thing involved. Not one. It's like our coach cares too much about defense and doesn't know a thing about offense. What a gimmick coach.

It's becoming increasingly difficult to support John Beilein.  Yes, this was one game, but we've seen this movie so many damn times the last few years, and there's really no sign of improvement. The same problems plague Michigan basketball year after year under Beilein: streaky shooting, awful interior defense, poor rebounding, a lack of athleticism.

The worst part is that there's no rational reason to believe things will turn around. This team returned 10 players from last year and scored 30 fewer points than Louisiana Tech.

No signs of improvement? Really? We blew out two quality teams on a neutral court last week. The defense actually looked pretty good tonight. If we played the second or third worst offensive performance under Beilein instead of the absolute worst by far, we would have played them evenly.

Seriously, people are freaking out about this game? This was a trouble game when the schedule came out. A couple of days to rest and back out on the road, the fucking day before Thanksgiving, in fucking South Carolina!? Get serious. This team is going to beat V-Tech, UCLA and Texas and enter the BIG season with one loss. These kind of losses happen in hoops. This is not football, this shit happens. Calling for Beilein's job because we lost a ridiculously scheduled game after spending a week in NY kicking ass? We won't shoot that bad all season. We didn't make a shot, in our first road game, shit happens. Come on. Relax. People are seriously stretching, big time, to make this a "Beilein thing."

Yep. The people that are upset must not watch a ton of basketball. The shot really poorly. End of story. It happens to every team, and it probably won't happen to this one again anytime soon. We know this team can shoot. We've already seen that. Move on and stop the short sighted bitching.

Here are Michigan's FG percentage rankings under Beilein:

323

227

273

100

72

9

18

222

56

92

Yes, poor shooting "happens to every team."  It happens too much to John Beilein teams.

Six of the last 7 years they've been in the top 42 out of 300+ teams, with 4 in the top 25.

This was one really, really bad game. The Lakers beat the Warriors last season. Shit happens. Advocating firing Beilein at this point is misguided at best. Let the season play out and then you can piss and moan if that makes you feel better.

just going to say it, you're wrong man. You can use statistics to prove any point you want. The NCAA champion 2000 MSU team lost at Oakland. This game meant less than shit. You are going to be eating your words in two weeks. Our Elite 8 team lost to Charlotte with McGary. Our Final Four team gave Penn State their first conference win. The Fab Five beat "Athletes in Action" by two. Give me a break.

Now there's a criticism that actually makes sense. Izzo's teams constantly win with defense and rebounding. Beilein is attempting to fix that this year by giving DJ more time. He had 14 rebounds in the previous game, but only 4 tonight. Whose fault is that? We were only outrebounded by 4 tonight, and considering how many shots we missed, that's remarkable. Give it time.

is about the least relevant statistic you could have referenced. We shoot as many or more 3s than any team in the nation. How about - Beilein, 9 seasons, 6 NCAA appearances, 1 NC game, 1 Elite 8, 2 BIG championships, a National player of the year, a BIG player of the year, and damn near even against MSU. Those are the numbers you should be looking at.

Thank you. It's as if people have never watched college basketball. Teams have off nights and shit like this happens. It's a long season and there will be more than a few bumps in the road. This team just went to NYC and rolled two quality teams. They will be fine.

The University of Michigan play on the road like a weak "out of class" team going into a road game like it is a "payday" game. SC State would have given them a better game. It was embarrassing. PERIOD.

It's just astounding that certain fans can watch the same thing happen over and over again and insist it's an anomaly every time.  This is full-blown Rich Rod syndrome.  But hey, maybe Beilein finishing 7th or lower in the conference for the sixth time in ten years will change your mind.

They said this on the telecast - before I got smart and muted it - and I don't see how that is possible unless you are counting walk-ons.  I assumed the SEC network announcers were morans but now you are repeating it so maybe I am missing something.

I count 7 - Irvin, Walton, Wagner, Donnel, DJ, Rahk, and Robinson.  Who am I missing? Dakitch? Lonergan?

That said I was disappointed in the game.  Walton and (particularly) Irvin seemed to lose composure and start jacking up 3s long before it was needed due to time and deficit.  Donnel works hard but is just "soft" from what I see out there.  (not that I could do anything close to what he does as is).  If Robinson isnt hitting 3s he shouldn't be on the floor -- SC players seemed to seek him out and drive any time they got matched up with him.

I still like the potential of this group and particularly the younger guys, but there does seem to be something missing in term of leadership, heart, or composure with this team.

But this is exactly the team I was afraid we might have.  Hopefully this was a one off shit show.  I tell ya though you can't be this reliant on the 3 and have sustainable success.  WTF happened to the D we've been playing?

Erik_in_Dayton

They had lapses, but I didn't think it was a terrible game defensively (South Carolina shot 43.4%). What bothered me was not getting to the ball and the seeming lack of composure. I don't mean to pick on Walton and Irvin, but seniors shouldn't be rattled by playing a road game even if the opponent is playing good defense.
