MBB Snowflake thread

Submitted by ThadMattasagoblin on

it's time to go more all out in football and basketball. Go to Columbus. See what they do to get 5 star after 5 star to go there for basketball and football. I don't even care if it's illegal. The NCAA doesn't care if you cheat anyways. Who cares about admissions? Ohio State lets anyone in who can breath and have been the best football/basketball tandem in the country since 2000 while we pludge along doing things the right way and getting our asses handed to us by them but hey we do things the right way. Why can't Beilein get a Jared Sullinger, Mullins, or Oden while Thad Matta can? Beilein is a better player developer than Matta even as this year has been shitty. I believe he's a better developer of talent than Izzo too but they get the talented 5 stars that keep their programs from having down years like this year for Michigan. If we recruited as well as the Buckeyes do for both football and basketball, we'd never go through these hardships. Top 5 classes every year in both sports and Harbaugh and Beilein would have us rolling as the best college sports program in America. Your snowflakes below.

Also lol at the people who don't think we cheat regularly. It might not be to the extent of some places but Michigan violates recruiting rules all the time, has payed players, the athletes all circulate a list of easy A classes and tutors do their homework for them on the reg. it is what is but we cheat every day too.

They contact recruits when they shouldn't callore than they should, allow current players to do things with recruits on visits that aren't ok. It's petty stuff that every program does but we do it too. And lol at the guy who said provide proof.

I gave a couple specifics but ok they get recruits into bars where they get free drinks is at least one I was there when it happened. Is that actually a bad thing? No. But the coaches know it happens and it's still a recruiting violation.

All this is from players. Devin Gardner had a credit card he was told nobody would check receipts on, he got my friend a dress with it. I saw the list of classes. I was in a class with Taylor Lewan and Chris brown from the hockey team, blue book final, Lewan came in, brown handed him a blue book he sat there without writing a word for 15 minutes turned it in and left. I was in a class with trey Burke first semester of the year he left, he slept through class everytime he showed up, it was a 30 person class with participation being 30% of the grade and he got an A. We cheat, so does everyone.

I think it's fairly common knowledge to regular students that student-athletes get perks around campus whether that is tutoring or leniency in class or getting into Ricks and Skeeps underage no problem.

This doesn't separate Michigan from the rest of the college world of athletics.

Also tried to edit to remove name but had been responded too, mods feel free to delete this post, people can believe me or not but bringing up specific players was dumb on my part. Half these rules aren't even done by the AD, the list is just passed around by students and the AD just doesn't step into stop it

Its called talking to people.  We joked about the class a couple times.  I know its hard to believe that michigan players actually talk to people sometimes but it happens.

Ha. Yes, I'm sure in a class of 30 people, possibly the most popular kid on campus slept through every class. If this were true, every fucking person in that class could have and would have slept through the class also. Because, you know, it is a class of 30 people, not 300. I always had a suspicion you were a troll. I guess this proves it. Let me guess, your friend just happened to be the starting QB's friend and he just happened to buy her things and brag about committing NCAA violations? I bet you were good friends with McGary, Stauskas, Glen Robinson, Denard Robonson, and everyone else that just happened to be really good at sports and is now a professional athlete? Why not name drop the millionaires now in the pros to prove your fake point

@ ak47

You do realize Beilein backed off that transfer from West Virginia because Beilein wasn't interested in him bringing along his little friends to party while on his visit.   I guess Izzo allows a lot more extracircular stuff to happen to insure commitments.

The same thing happened with the kid from Southfield that went to MSU.  Players told him he didn't have to do anything school or class-wise, they went to a strip club (yeah I am sure its was all just pure clean fun that went on), his mother publically mocked their academics, but yeah they got their man!

This makes about 10 games this team has CHOKED down the stretch...They could have EASILY won 19-21 games and been a NCAA Toruney lock ..Instead they will not even make the NIT which is completely embarassing coming from a NCAA title game and Elite 8 appearance...Other programs seem to be able to sustain 10-15 years of straight NCAA appearances and just reload...why cant we?

You are literally insane. This a team that when healthy lost at home to njit and eastern. To even be .500 right now and in a position to lose so many heartbreakingly close games is a minor miracle. Chatman and Donnal are key to next year. They must develop like maar and Dawkins have.

Thats my take as well.  We had the ability to get into the tournament this year even with this ridiculous roster setup.  Instead we continually threw the ball away at the end of games, had guys who made dozens of FTs in a row miss them, and then proceed to not execute a basic stategy of fouling up 3.

The fact that we aren't going to make the NIT at this point is an absolute joke.

The fact that we are going to finish 8-10 in this garbage of a year in the conferece is a joke.

9-9 for me was my last goal for this team and they failed dramitcally.

A guy like Dawkins who most expected to do nothing this year explodes for a million points, blocks a hugo shot by a guy half a foot taller than him, and its all a waste.

I just expected Irvin and Spike to deliver.  Both had been money up to that point and Irvin's free throws were as pure as can be.

He could miss the second, but had to make the first.

Well the two missed FTs were as costly as can be.

6 point game = 2 possession game

7 point game = 3 possesion game (you back off and can let them score a three with 3 seconds left and you still win by one)

The same year Michigan made the national title game. I don't know why people have forgotten this so suddenly.

This year obviously hasn't gone how we wanted, but given the circumstances, it's not that surprising that this is the year that the team hit a bump in the road.

We seem to be ok with 6"6 PF. 6"8 C that weigh. 220 soaking wet...i don't think we are ever in on legitimate big men...I've said it before

udoh transferred early after JB got here.  but he should know that.  he should also know that guys like burke, stauskus, DMo, GRIII and McGary would all blow up and turn pro at least a year early.

There's another. This is an issue because of the system we run which isn't a pound it down low system. Would you rather be MSU the last few years than UM?

If Mitch had more time to prove he could be successful in this system, the perception would have changed. That it didn't happen was out of Beilein's control.

Replay Rules: why can they review the mcintosh oob play to add 2.3 sec to clock but cannot review law stepping on line before demos tying three? Revsi be said "it's too late now". Anyone know the rules? Doesn't really matter but I'd rather see the human error remain vs replay if it can't be applied more uniformly.

It comes down to whether you really think that money exchanging hands is a bad thing or not when the NCAA should legally pay athletes anyways. Was the Fab 5 worth it? I'd say probably since it gave us massive exposure, we beat up on OSU and MSU every year, and went to two title games. We got caught but years later they're making documentaries about Michigan basketball and if the rollover never happens we probably stay an elite basketball program and never go in the doldrums.

Thad, I think maybe it's time for you to turn in too. And tomorrow,as you go about your day, just remember that everything you need to get done for the day, still would have needed to get done, even if UM was winning just like Kentucky. Love the spirit! Go blue!! PS-wanted to mention too, IIRC, didn't OSU beat the Fab5 twice their freshmen years? And yes, the elite 8 victory was beautiful, but I seem to recall Jimmy Jackson and his team beating UM twice in regular season.

So what are you going to say when these same group of players compete for a B1G championship next year. All programs have down years, times are tough right now but with Beilein and Harbaugh. The worst is just about over. Stop overreacting, Michigan athletics is in good hands.

We do need a tough big man in the middle. I like Doyle and his twin Teske coming in is great. But I don't see them competing with the rugged big men in the NCAA to grind out wins.
