MBB Recruiting: Michigan may have offered 2014 F Marial Shayok [Ed: False]
Per the Twitters, more specifically a Canadian hoops blog, Michigan may have offered 3* 2014 F Marial Shayok, who recently received a release from his LOI with Buzz-less Marquette. I emphasize the *may have* since Beilein and company typically require a campus visit before handing out an offer. However, due to the fact that Shayok is expected to sign very soon, they may have relaxed the rule due to the circumstances.
He's listed at 6'6"/6'7", 205. Offers of note include IU, Virginia, Marquette (obviously), USC, and others.
One Canadian to replace another, eh?
Expect Best, Prepare For Worst: Michigan who may lose Stauskas, McGary& GR3 have offered Ottawa, ON's MarialShayok#CdnBallers

Ed-Ace: Sam Webb just debunked this on Twitter. Incidentally, this is the same outlet that reported Nik Stauskas had signed with agent Mark Bartelstein earlier this week, a report Stauskas obviously denied.
hope it's true
247 lists him at 6'7", with a decent offer list:
http://247sports.com/Player/Marial-Shayok-29300
also, somewhat old for his class.
His 247comp rank is basically identical to DJ Wilson's (165 overall, #40 SF vs 166 overall, #40 SG). He's virtually the same size as both Wilson and Chatman.
He's also listed as a bit older for his class at 18y9m, so this offer would be a departure from Beilein's frequent strategy, if true.
Re questions about #Michigan and former 2014 Marquette commit Marial Shayok -- reports of a Michigan offer are false

Not surprising to hear that. However, doesn't mean it wasn't a "come and visit and then we'll probably offer".
These recruiting threads getting dubunked so quickly by reliable sources is a bit of a downer...
super annoyed by Twitter.
Will gladly take another Canadian on the team. It seemed to work out the last time we did it.
John Beilein doesn't just hand out offers. They wouldn't offer a player who hasn't even been on campus.
The come and visit and we will offer thing is going to single handedly handicap UM with any potential late addition.
Isn't it time to accept that Beilein knows what he's doing?
Yes, but there will always be those who say, "Beilein can't recruit elite players."
Beilein can recruit and I think his no offer until visiting policy is great for HS recruits, but lets not act like the possible predicament of 4 open scholarships and every major program vying for the 20 or so productive players out there is charted territory. Kansas doesn't have this policy for example and won't hesitate to extend an offer ASAP.
That sort of romantacism works with HS kids. When there are about 20 productive kids left and you have 4 spots to fill? Not so much.
for transfers. He hasn't recruited any here yet and their circumstances are different. HS school players can take official visits paid for by the school, prospective transfers cannot. It just seems wrong to assume he's going to adopt a counterproductive approach.
Also, we have a maximum of 3 open spots. We were going to be 1 over if everyone returned.
Hatch is most likely on medical scholarship. 4 schollys. 4 spots short-handed.
scholarship, I don't there is any way he gets put on one before he even enrolls. Beilein isn't going to kill his dream of a comeback without even giving him a chance, certainly not for a fourth late addition.
I wasn't advocating for four late additons. I was emphasizing just how short our roster would be in that scenario. A wing and a bigman would do wonders and the few out there can go to any school they want this time of year.
Hoops Hype Canada has now backtracked after supposedly contacting Shayok and getting this quote from him: "Michigan hasn't offered yet, some interest. Still trying to figure this out."

Marial Shayok's dad tells @SNYtv no schools have contacted him or his son yet after getting a release from Marquette.

Also, Sam Webb says he worked the phones today and "uncovered six new possibilities on U-M bball radar (2014s & transfers)." His article on this is paywalled, unfortunately.

He is backtracking because some people think tampering is involved.
