MBB Recruiting - 2019 Big Board

Submitted by Matt EM on

Coming off a tough loss on Saturday, figured I'd provide a bit of a distraction with an overview of our 2019 basketball recruiting board.

Coach Beilein has all but wrapped up the 2018 class, which is absolutely superb in my opinion. Time to move on to the 2019 class.

Subsequent to a few requests for improved cosmetics (and lack of laziness on my behalf), I put together a fairly comprehensive and cosmetically pleasing post that is easy to follow and contains film.

Any idea why no other offers have gone out?  Especially considering (1) our only offers (Weems and Watts) do not look likely to come to Michigan (at the moment anyway); and (2) at least a couple good prospects (Beverley and Carton) and 1 elite prospect (Maxey) have paid their own way for a visit... seems odd, no?

You would think Maxey at least would be an automatic offer, especially since there seem to be no academic hurdles.

I preface this by saying I am perplexed at the Maxey situation. When an elite prospect flips the bill for an unofficial visit all the way from Texas, and is in high academic standing with good character, that should be an automatic offer in my opinion. Tyrese told me that Coach Beilein stated 'we want to make sure you have legit interest in us'

That said, perhaps Coach Beilein doesn't feel the need to offer a PG with Simpson, Brooks and DeJulius already in the mix. Perhaps he's taking a wait and see approach and wants the best available talent since we appear to have solid depth at the PG, PF and C spots. Maybe he'd prefer an ultra-talented iso wing?

Personally, I'd like to see Maxey and Beverly offered considering they've already visited and have legit interest. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.

How much does the fact we have zero scholarships for 2019 available play into the situation at this point?  Obviously they will recruit for 2019 and we know there will be attrition of some sort that far into the future.  But at this point it is really hard to know where you'll need help that far in advance with a full roster - I'm guessing they're going to try and keep kids interested but limit "official" offers for a while.

as it is difficult to anticipate where exactly an incoming recruit will be needed in terms of position/role. That said, I think its fair to anticipate attrition of some sort in today's college basketball landscape. Without mentioning names, when you have 3 PGs and 3 Cs on the roster and limited playing time at each spot, it might be helpful to sort of forecast a bit.

I think Maxey in particular is a kid you offer irrelevant of positional need, he's that type of talent and is a great fit in terms of personality and no red flags.

What about the kid from Texas...Quinn Slazinksi? or something.

I think we need an athletic put the ball on the floor and get to the rack wing next year.

We could use weems scoring and rebounding ability . Hope we get on him harder and make it happen he would be perfect on top of 1-3-1 with those long arms ! He can pass and his shot is getting better and better
