MBB Recruiting: 2015 4* TX SG Austin Grandstaff

Submitted by ypsituckyboy on

A week and a half ago, I posted about 4* 2015 G/SF Matt McQuaid out of Texas. In that thread, MGoUser Wee-Bey Brice pointed out that one of McQuaid's teammates on AAU Team Texas was even more highly regarded. Well, Grandstaff decommitted from Okie State a few days ago, and the UM coaches wasted no time in reaching out to his dad. Visits for Grandstaff won't happen until the season is over, according to Rivals, but it wouldn't be surprising if both he and McQuaid made a trip to Ann Arbor.

Grandstaff is rated as the #32 player in the class of 2015. His game looks somewhat similar to McQuaid's, as does his size. Both are around 6'4"/6'5", lights-out shooters, and have great court vision. However, Grandstaff seems to handle the ball a bit better and likes to attack the basket more. From the looks of it, I'd bet McQuaid ends up being a bit taller than Grandstaff and plays some 2 and 3 in college, whereas Grandstaff sticks at the 2.

agree although that should be a given for pretty much any big time DI guard prospects, especially considering the amount of time these kids devote to balling all year around these days.  unfortunately its not a given as we can all agree fundamental ball handling and mid range shooting appear to further diminish each year (at least when looking at the crazy athletic prospects coming up each yr).  had hoped for GRIII to put in a little more time on his left this past offseason - hed be much tougher guard and his game would be much less stale off the bounce if he could pull up or get to the cup with any consistency going left.  one thing gotta love about beliein - the dude makes sure to recruit shooters

SMU is an option because of Larry Brown (had no idea Larry Brown was coaching at SMU). Ok St. is still in the mix along with Florida. Article also mentions that osu reached out recently.
