MBB Recruiting: 2015 4* G Prince Ali

Submitted by ypsituckyboy on

Per Eric Bossi at Rivals, Michigan and UCLA are making a very strong move for recent UConn decommit Prince Ali, a hyper-athletic 6'4" slashing guard out of Florida in the 2015 class. He's good at dunking. Like, really good. Also super aggressive off the dribble, and he's got the athleticism to be an elite defender. Rivals says he's not a great shooter, and his stroke does look a bit mechanical from the video, but he's hitting 39.2% of his 3's so far during EYBL play, so take that for what it's worth.

Currently rated 45 to ESPN, 68 to Rivals, and 46 to Scout, with apparent consensus that he'll be moving up the rankings soon.

He has yet to visit, but if he does, expect him to receive an offer. Oladipo comparison seems to be apt.

Riff raff, street rat.  I don't buy that.
If only they'd look closer - would they see a poor boy?
No siree.
They'd find out, there's so much more, to him.

Some of the offers that he held in addition to UConn were Illinois, Georgia, LSU, Miami (YTM), Nebraska, Providence, Rhode Island, South Florida, Central Florida, VCU, Vanderbilt, Washington and West Virginia, so an interesting mix if nothing else according to 247Sports. As mentioned by the OP, we are on that list as well as UCLA.

looks little like caris lavert (plus 20 lbs or so), athletic gumby with high ceiling.  the best part is, unlike some other coaches, beilein has proven without a doubt that he knows how to identify players for his system/program and then develop those guys (obviously with help from his staff) at higher rate than any other conference program.  the dudes just been a beast so far at um, even more so now that he can finally recruit legit athletes after first few yrs.  hes by no means bulletproof, but its really tough to question many of his moves re evaluation/recruiting/development/culture etc...proofs in the pudding, unlike another major coach at um whos unfortunately yet to earn similar praise

Quote from Sun-Sentinel article on his decommitment (May 30):

“It’s part of the process,” Ali said. “People may think it’s strange, but at the end of the day I have to do, what I have to do.

“I have gotten a couple phone calls from [other schools] but nothing too serious. I made this decision because I feel like I committed a little too early and I wanted to reopen things.”
