He's been known to do that occasisionally.

Why take this guy when we're about to let our own graduate transfer (Bielfeldt) walk?

We have plenty of shooters. What we don't have is muscle inside. I'm not saying Bielfeldt is the answer but this other guy sure isn't...

But top 6 nationally...playing in the Ivy League, on a 13-17 team. No thank you.

Well, I'm not very knowledgeable about watching tape, but it is the Ivy League and they're called highlights for a reason.

March 28th, 2015 at 12:54 PM ^
he looks pretty athletic and agile.
March 28th, 2015 at 12:30 PM ^
I guess we can totally disregard recruits highlights too since there is no way to tell if one recruit is better than the other. Also no way to tell how athletic someone is, it's the Ivy League after all. Those alley oops wouldn't happen in a real conference.
March 28th, 2015 at 12:37 PM ^
he is probably one very intelligent young man; Ivy League Schools don't have athletic scholarships.
"Those alley oops wouldn't happen in a real conference." Maybe they wouldn't. There are ways to defend against the alley oop, ya know?
This isn't just a guy who has played in high school and you're watching tape. Since he's played a career in the Ivy League, I'd wanna see tape of entire games. All I got from watching those highlights is that the guy is athletic.
And yes actually you can disregard his ability to shoot 3's. He's amazing in his highlights. He doesn't miss. Yet, he's actually a terrible 3-point shooter.
You should just quit at "I don't know much about watching tape."
The highlight tape doesn't tell you anything about his ability to make 3 pt shot, but it should tell you something about his ability to create his own shot, or to put the ball on the floor, or how well he finishes around the rim. That's what people are seeing on the highlight tape, not one or two shots of him knocking down wide open 3s.

A very different player than Max. He plays a lot more like ... well no one we really have. He is probably a shorter version of what you hope DJ Wilson develops into.
Like someone else said he is a traditional 4 that we sit here every night in Jan/Feb asking who do we have to match up with this guy who jumps really well. Probably Dawkins is the most similar player but this guy looks to be a better defenders/rebounder while Dawkins is the better outside shooter. Both have good hops. It would add athleticism up front. Obviously he won't be as prolific as a rebounder in a real conference.

Need more Vandy guys, right, KBLOW?
March 28th, 2015 at 12:29 PM ^
We are not in a position to say no to guys who can actually accomplish the art of rebounding. Rebounding and blocking shots are major issues for this squad. He sounds like a 15 foot and in kind of shooter if he cant make the 3 very well. Looks like Beilein is finally coming around to the idea that not every 4 has to be an elite 3 pt shooter and getting our ass killed on 2nd chance points does matter.

Is Michigan even in the discussion at all for Brown? Just seems like lip-service or the fact that he's sponsored by Adidas making it seem like we have a shot...
March 28th, 2015 at 11:14 AM ^
I think you have to say we are in the discussion since he visited---now, how interested....?
March 28th, 2015 at 11:20 AM ^
Just hard to imagine Beilein n co outrecruiting the big boys like UK and KU for recruits after the recent recruiting losses.
McGary is probably the only win in the past few years, I think?

all above true as he reached out to us and came on campus
people bring up the nike/addidas/aau sponsor thing (see diamond stone to maryland) but he just visited cal who is nike and only kansas, ucla and UM are addidas among his final 7-8.
seems like he is doing research on his own criteria and where his advisors are pointing him. scout says he should decide end of the month, but didnt specify march or april. but the radio silence as it relates to UM probably not very encouraging.

Always makes me smile with his spot-on gifs.

Would be nice to add his veteran presence to the team along with his ability. Would be an upgrade over Max on both sides of the ball even if he's shorter by a couple inches.
March 28th, 2015 at 11:17 AM ^
How would it be an upgrade on both sides of the ball? What do you know about this guy's ability on defense? Also, his stats are pretty good, but I'd guess Max would have similar stats if he was playing in the Ivy League. He's not any bigger than Max, and that's his main problem.
And you know Max's calves are way better.

Well, I ain't read so good. I was thinking he was a C because of who I was replying to. Can't really call a guy an upgrade over Max when he plays a totally different position.
Actually that sounds even worse in that case. .269 on threes? Seriously, whose minutes is this guy going to take shooting from outside like that? Is this guy going to get into a game with Irvin, Rahk, LeVert, and Dawkins all able to play small forward at times? Sounds like this guy's going to ride pine. I'd rather keep Max as a backup C considering we don't know how Donnal will work out and even if Doyle takes a big step next year, they need depth there.

I seriously doubt we would take this kid over Wagner. He is likely Plan C. On the other hand, I don't think you can count on Wagner staying 4 years. Even if he isn't good enough to go pro early, the European players often go back to the Euro League before 4 years.
Another plus: adding Miller to Robinson likely can't hurt the team GPA.

I wonder if he sings in an acapella group.

If JB can make it work with a 6'4" power forward and a 6'7" center I trust he can make this work. To me it just looks like a backup date to the prom in case they whiff on everyone else.
Could also be Levert is leaving and they want another body in the rotation in case of injury. Even though JB never loses kids to the draft or injury, right?
