May need to Buckle Up this weekend

Submitted by Tate on

Was just listening to TheWolverine.com podcast and they said that there is a good chance we may see commitments from Brandon Peters (4* QB) and David Reese (3* LB) this weekend. Peters could decide depending on if the visit goes well, and Reese may potentially flip from Louisville.

Scout also posted a story saying that Dez Fitzpatrick (4*WR, also HS teammates/Louisville commits with Reese) is waiting for a potential 'dominio effect' this weekend.

Can't link, at work.

I doubt Corley.  Everyone has him as a OSU v MSU (and ND) battle at this point.   We have a ton of work to do for him.  The best thing for Corley is a long drawn out process where we can change his mind.

I don't think either one is very close to deciding. I'm guessing Onwenu wants to get more comfortable, because he was not particularly high on Michigan before Harbaugh was hired. And Corley - who goes to Detroit King - has visited Michigan a lot, but he had Michigan outside his top four up until a few weeks ago.

Peters has nice upside. He does need to get stronger and work on ball velocity at 15+ yards, as well as working on his footwork and fundamentals. Peters is athletic and can keep plays alive under duress. Peters would be a nice pickup. I gotta admit, I'm a little surprised that the top QB's aren't looking more seriously at Michigan, given what Harbaugh has one with QB's and the success he had in the nfl as a player and coach, you would think they would flock to UM.

"Harbaugh has one with QB's and the success he had in the nfl as a player and coach, you would think they would flock to UM."

Picking a school goes beyond the coach. Besides academics, recent success and geographical proximity, a key consideration is the depth chart. A 2016 QB would see Morris, Speight, Malzone, Gentry and O'Korn ahead of him. If Gentry pans out as expected, that would mean waiting until your senior year to compete for the job with most likely 3-4 other junior/sophomore/freshman QBs. I believe that Harbaugh will get an elite QB every other year but not neccesarily every year.

Yes but being realistic the meme on this board in January was every 5 star QB in the country would throw themselves at Harbaugh.  So let's not be revisionist.  I was disappointed Costello didnt even bother to show up in AA when Harbaugh specificially went out to CA to see him before deWeaver.

I do agree 100% I think the depth chart makes it difficult - we have a lot of young QBs now so if you are coming to UM in the 2016 class you are guaranteed little.  And no that doesnt mean anyone choosing elsewhere is "afraid of competition" but QB is a specific position only 1 can play at a time so the depth chart means a lot.  If you believe O'Korn is the real deal you will have at least 2 upperclassmen next year (O'Korn Morris) and then 3 underclassmen (Speight, Malzone, Gentry).  Obviously there will be some attrition in the next 2 years but even with that guys now want to play by their 2nd year or 3rd at worst (RS FR or RS SO)

Getting a Peters level talent (top 10ish in the country) to come in after that assembly line of in house prospects would be a quite good get.  I think every 2nd or 3rd year you get the "top 3" type QB, and other years you are filling it out with 10ish to 15ish.  Especially if some years you get 2.

I thought the lack of experience at the QB position might draw interest from big time QB's wanting an opportunity to play early. However, when I look at what the QB position will look like this summer, it is easy to see how the depth chart could turn some guys to schools with less competition. I'm fairly certain that someone will transfer in the next calendar year, but even so, that still leaves a solid number of younger QB's on the roster. Ideally I hope either Gentry or Malzone turn into an elite QB so we don't have to try and find the next "Luck"

Reese looks like a flier but Bobby Petrino is a pretty damn good coach even if he's a scumbag. I'm a little leary because his best offers other than Louisville are Indiana but Harbs built up Stanford without initially many 4/5 star guys so he should know what a flier who's going to contribute looks like.

With me I'll take Gary just because I'm used to Michigan getting the cream of the crop in football. Seeing him go to Ohio would be a huge kick in the nuts. I'm used tom losing guys to Kentucky or Kansas so losing Brown wouldn't be as big of a deal to me.

Idk what he is being recruited as, but after coaching against him I personally believe that he is a better FB...

He has the physical ability to play LB. He made a lot of tackles last season, but when you see him live and on film he does not have a natural nose for the ball. He was a downhill guy who could fill a gap. He is not a free flowing type of LB that has the ability to make plays all over the field. He's a 'in the box', run stopping LB.

As a FB I felt he was an actual legitimate threat. As a DC I was more concerned about him running the ball than their HB. He was a load to bring down and he was certainly a physical player. Although I don't see him getting many carries as a FB at Michigan the kid was plenty physical enough to block, again, particularly between the tackles.

Everything I have seen and heard seems to suggest that he projects to a LB at the next level but after seeing plenty of the kid I feel FB would be the more suitable fit if he indeed attended Michigan. Again just my opinion.

Between him and Fitz it made it tough to game plan against. Frustating when you know a team only has three weapons but two of the three are fairly legit weapons that are only juniors.
