May need to Buckle Up this weekend
Was just listening to TheWolverine.com podcast and they said that there is a good chance we may see commitments from Brandon Peters (4* QB) and David Reese (3* LB) this weekend. Peters could decide depending on if the visit goes well, and Reese may potentially flip from Louisville.
Scout also posted a story saying that Dez Fitzpatrick (4*WR, also HS teammates/Louisville commits with Reese) is waiting for a potential 'dominio effect' this weekend.
Can't link, at work.
Is Jaylen Brown also deciding this week? Man... that would be pretty cool, huh?
Would be sweet to see some commits this weekend. Good debate topic. If you could chose 1 guy to commit in April who would it be?
Jaylen Brown #1 High School Hoops star or Rashan Gary #1 Defensive player in the country?
Since Gary isn't deciding until the AA game...heres hoping!
Jaylen Brown, definitely. One superstar basketball commit is usually more effective than one football commit.
Couldn't agree more. I would love to see him in the Maize n Blue for 1 season.
3 years, where 1 basketball committ plays for 1.
Touche' Cali
Bown and it's not even close. Brown is do or die this month, Gary has a lot of time.
Guess that was confusing. I meant if you chose Jaylen Brown, Gary would commit elsewhere. Meaning you could only have 1 on campus.
I would pick Gary. No doubt Brown is more likely to be a star and would have a larger impact, but football > basketball. Sorry.
That may be true but as the poster above stated a basketball player has much more of an impact than does a football player, save a quarterback. Brown would be 1 of 5 for the most part while Gary would be 1 of 22.
I agree with all of that. But still, football > basketball. I will always want the blue chip football recruit over the blue chip basketball recruit.
Personally, football holds much more interest for me, so yeah, Gary.
Elite bball players have a much greater impact on a five person bball team than any single player (even QBs) can have on a 22-man football team. But let's get them both!
I'd take 3 years of Gary over 1 year of Brown and it's not even close.
Without hesitation. For the same reason others mentioned...individual non-QB basketball players are way more impactful.
Top 10 bball players also have a much higher hit rate IMO than top 10 football players - with the football guys you tend to have either a NFL guy or a total flameout it seems from my perusal of the last 10 years of guys. Bball guys tend to at least be pretty darn solid as the floor.
Fussball uber alles!!
Gary because we would get him for a couple years instead of one for Brown. Although, watching Brown in AA would be special.
I have to agree with the football > bball comment.
Jaylen Brown by a long shot...his impact would be triple Gary's. As a DT its only so much Gary could do to impact outcomes of games.

I agree. Who do you think would have made a bigger impact at Michigan - Jadeveon Clowney, or Jabari Parker? I'd take Jabari pretty easily.

Wow. I totally would have rather wanted Clowney.
I guess some people just like basketball more than you.
I definitely would've chosen Kevin Durant's freshman year at in a UM uniform (probably the greatest display of individual talent I've ever seen out of a young college athlete) than Clowney's 3 years (the last year of which he was completely detached, btw).
It's not even about liking basketball better. How many games did Clowney decide for SC? But if you add a lottery pick to the 2012-13 or 13-14 MBB teams, we probably get a championship out of it. Even on a mediocre team - add a lottery pick to this year's team and we're definitely dancing, even with injuries to LeVert and Walton.
You don't even need to go outside Michigan teams for example players - who made a bigger impact at Michigan: Trey Burke, or Brandon Graham?

You guys are cherry picking examples just to prove your point. If you pick Trey Burke (or Kevin Durant) you have to pick a football equivalent (which Brandon Graham is not). Who would you rather have - one year of Durant, or 3 years of Woodson? Or if you want to take Michigan bias out of it - Vince Young (or Reggie Bush or Adrian Peterson).
I understand that a lot of people like basketball more than I do, but I think I'm in the majority. At Michigan, football trumps all. Would you give up Peppers for one year of DeAngelo Russell? I don't think most M fans say yes to that.
I don't think he is. Nevertheless, it will be an exciting weekend.
Sam advised an end of April decision was more likely for Brown.
Brown deciding end of April.
Would love to land Peters and Reese to get the HELLO ball rolling...
I am
Hmm....play for scumbag Bobby Petrino, or play for Renaissance Man Jim Harbaugh?
I'd like to find out more about Peters. His high school stats haven't exactly set the world on fire. 56% completions, 21 TDs, 6 INTs, 1,876 yards. Perhaps he plays in a really though league though (does Indiana have many really competitive football leagues?)

I can't speak specifically but on the whole Indiana is not known for its high school football.
I coach in Indiana, not football, and their conference is one of the tougher conferences in the state. All 5A & 6A (two biggest sizes) schools, which isn't very common. Also some of the wealthier schools in the state, so the kids have access to good coaching and facilities.
Excellent info. TY
Per MaxPreps, his sophomore stats - take them for what they are worth, of course - were 1,405 yards, 13 TDs to 9 INTs and a 59.8% completion percentage in ten games, which is still good for an equivalent NCAA rating of 144.3. If you assume that he threw at close to the same clip as a junior (on a per completion basis) and even account for the slight decrease in completion percentage, it would be in the 160 range in his junior year. Not really that bad on a rating basis - probably top quartile of Division I most weeks. Of course, whether that actually would translate to the college game is a totally different matter.
You realize that your tagline, which is mocking a football player's view on the school's academics, could just as easily say Tate Forcier, right?
announcing his commitment to OSU. That's obviously what their staff pitched to him. You think our staffs have been selling recruits on the idea that they only need to put in minimal effort on academics?
Matt Barkley's stats his senior year of high school were 54% completion percentage with 23 TDs to 18 INTs. He did have a lot of yards because the threw the ball a ton. And those stats are significantly worse than his junior year stats. I say this because high school stats are very unreliable to evaluation a QB. Sure, they are a data point, but the talent in the leagues and on the team can vary so damn much that it makes it hard to validate.
His school is/was stacked at the QB position.
Hunter Johnson who is the #1 PRO QB for 2017 transferred from Avon to Brownsdburg to get more playing time.
Auerbach the douche is still here?
Sent from MGoBlog HD for iPhone & iPad
Is he the one who went off on Shane Morris recently? That was a weirdly personal attack.
Edit: Yup, this is the guy. Good lord. http://mgoblog.com/users/auerbach
Same one who called a woman who filed sexual assault charges against a man a "bitch" too.
Correction: I'm pretty sure I called her a lying whore, not a bitch. And that was after both the university's and prosecutor's investigations made it clear that she had accused an innocent young man of rape, and it came out in the press that she attempted to extort said young man for $7 million. And her attorney suggested it had to be rape since her client "would never sleep with a black boy" despite the fact that she had semen in her from another male that same night who was later revealed to be her black boyfriend. Shall I go on?
Your revisionist drivel won't change reality. There was no personal attack on Shane. I said he was terrible at football and stopped there. Anything beyond that is in the minds of 5-star fanbois like yourself.
You seem confused. Where would I go, any why?
Why are you still here?

Who are you?
You forgot to end your comment with:
"No matter what his HS stats, I know for a fact he is better than Morris!"
I live 10 minutes from this kids high school. The conference they are in is one of the more competitive in the state. Problem with Indiana 5a/6a is it has been very top heavy for so long, they just recently added 6a to fix that. Becoming 6a is meritocracy. Best 5a move up, worst 6a move down. It seemed to work well this year, I thought. Others from Indiana may have other opinions.
I will be going to his games this year. I'm no talent evaluator, but I will gladly report his stat lines, and my worthless opinion of his play.
And, as far as facilities go, Avon probably has some of the best in the state. Good luck to this young man. I hope he has a huge senior season!!!
