It wasn't Beilein's fault guys - there were injuries!
He worked hard and won an award. Says more about him than his coaches or teams.
The Beilein hate really needs to stop. Maybe you could just be happy for Bielfeldt. Based on his previous performance at Michigan, ask yourself one question: could Bielfeldt have made enough of a difference to get Michigan that "one more quality win" they supposedly needed during the regular season?
I think it would have been highly unlikely. Michigan's problem this year is that a lot of their players would have made great "sixth men" but there really wasn't anyone the team could rally around every night.
Yes he would've made a difference. With his 40% 3 pt shooting he would've been a good stretch 4 to have (though I'm skeptical Beilein would've used him as such). He would've filled a major hole in our roster. Unless you wanna attribute his improvement to Tom Crean
To those who say he wouldn't of made a difference, you are out of your mind. Like Stringer said, his 3 pt shooting ability was great. The other thing is that Max has the one trait no one on this team has, and that is all out hustle. Every time I saw IU play this year, I saw Max everywhere on the court. You can't tell me we couldn't have used Max when our guys played like busters for the last half of the season. Congrats Max, you deserve it.
I love how Max would have been the difference between the bubble and being squarely in but Levert wouldn't have mattered one bit. Our basketball fans are the worst
Why are you responding to me, I didn't say a thing about Levert, but it's obvious that we would already be in the tourney with a healthy Levert. He led the team in almost every category. But Max would have given us at least some fight down low. Besides Donnal's improvement, the rest of the bigs were either soft, or just not good. With Max, Levert and Spike, there would be no question as to making the tourney. Injuries killed us this year, but letting Max go was a mistake, plain and simple.
Our biggest problem this year was defense...not offense. Our big men are not good at defense...period. Max would have helped there a lot. We saw early in the season that Caris did not help on defense one bit.
Caris may have not been an addition on the defensive side of the ball, but he would have provided a jolt to the offense, especially in our 5-10 min periods of offensive ineptitude a game.
Max was one of our most steady players last year, and would have been again. Having him in the game mid-season vs Doyle would have been a huge upgrade, not only in defense and rebounding but also his offensive skillset (making jump shots). Also, Max would have brought some mental toughness to the team to stop some of those long runs that killed us in our blowouts.
I like JB, but in hindsight letting Max go was not a good decision, especially for a team already lacking in upperclassmen.
Some people can benefit from a change of scenery.
Rudock here, Bielfeldt there.
Bielfeldt was our best big man even when he was here.
His and horfords facial expressions when entering the game, seemed obvious. they seemed perpetually pouting they didn't get to play more. maybe they were right. for max to leave with all the playing time open...
Right, this surely isn't a hindsight is 20/20 post, huh? I'm sure you saw Horford's transfer a mile away.
Anyway, it seemed pretty well established that Bielfeldt would have stayed had Beilein wanted him.
You're one of those that refuses to ever believe our coach can do something wrong aren't you?
His sister was tweeting about Florida early in his career. Dear Leader thought it was nothing, though.
of Beilein even for cutting the 6th man of the year FOR AN EMPTY SCHOLARSHIP. This Board, y'all.
empty scholarship?
The 13th Scholarship (Max's) is empty. Letting him go was 100% unnecessary and pointless.
I will agree 100% with this. No reason for Max not to come back. Our team was so soft, we could have used Max's hustle alone, let alone the other reasons he would have helped. He could have played the 4, and Irvin wouldnt have been out of position all season.
No one. That is the point

I thought it went to Wagner. My memory is jumbled by him and Brown's decision.
But so many Michigan fans credit Rudock's improvement to the improved coaching he got from a year of Harbaugh compared to 4 of Ferentz.
Using the same analogy, Bielfeldt's improvement should also be attributed to one year of Crean vs 4 of Beilein. So either you think Crean is that good or Beilein is that bad...
Hmmmmm, I like your reasoning...

Because Beilein is obviously perfect, and all facts must be reverse engineered into a narrative to fit that reality. Sorry.
Dude, some of what you say is valid, but you are such a dick about it that people want to argue with your just because you are such. a. dick. about. it...
I'm a dick about. Too many people on this board bend over backward to paint things in the most positive possible light for our coaches and it irks me. Like the horford thing. "Oh, he was getting bad information." Ok, and our coach can't do anything to counteract that? Sometimes fuckups are fuckups, they need to be called out, and if I'm dick then I'm a dick.
Gee, maybe because we're Michigan fans and want to be supportive of our team?
...some Michigan fans are naturally optimistic which distorts their perception of the truth that is readily obvious to a 3rd party observer.
I remember some of the mental gymnastics people used to justify Hoke's incompetence during the 2013 season.
Furthermore, you presented a false dichotomy. Being supportive doesn't preclude someone from offering valid, justified, well-supported criticisms.
How is being a homer and not admitting when things are wrong being supportive? I was accused of being "just like the people you used to hate on here" in 2013 when people couldn't admit Hoke sucked after we were two yards away from losing to Akron, gave up the most yards in a game in school history to Indiana, and gained -48 yards rushing to MSU.
nothing supports a team like making every conceivable excuse for a coach that is not getting the job done and doesn't seem to be getting any better.
No. It is no different than all of the sparty and buckeye slappy fans that post on the RCMB and Bucknuts. No. Different. You just think it is.
I remember a post by you a while back when it looked like we were going to start oversigning like Bama. You said something like; "I've been preparing for this, and how to argue in favor of it."
That is pure, complete blind homerism at its finest, with a massive dose of intellectual dishonesty. It's sad when people can't see a truth that is smacking them in the face. Oh well, keep being you, wd. I honestly feel badly for you, but I'm also glad that I can see the forest through the trees.
would be the Beilein apologists' version of the dick. Beilein must be a close relative of his. Either that or he's just a blind fucking idiot. That a-hole jumps more people's shit for even the mildest anti-Beilein comments.
Good one.
Nice for him. Seems to be a right fit.

Beilein's fault. How well does he know his team when he let's a guy leave who is tough and gets the most out of his talents when one of the most glaring things about our bigs was lacking the toughness we needed so badly?
Essentially he was let go to make room for Wagner, whom didn't even get used properly and didn't get developed sufficiently.
Also recruiting Wilson and Chatman turned out to be bad recruits scouting that ate up a couple of more spots, very unimpressive decision making that is really hurting the make up of the team. You can throw Doyle in that group too.
he was let go FOR AN EMPTY SCHOLARSHIP. At one point, it looked like he let him go to pursue Jaylen Brown, which may have been defensible, but Max made clear even after we didn't get Brown, up until the day Max left, that he wanted to come back to Michigan but Beilien told him to GTFO. Beilein wanted to give more playing time to ricky doyle so he wouldn't transfer, or something.
I hate you as a fan and as a person. Go be a dick elsewhere
Did you spend trying to come up with an actual counter argument before resorting to that? Seems to be your go-to move.
I don't really feel like you deserve anything other than that. Anyone spewing as much shit about Beilein as you are is not looking to have an actual discussion about anything. Yes, I'm sure Beilein told him to to GTFO. Your passive aggressive posts are ridiculous unless you have actual insight into the situation or are Max, which you're not, so kindly fuck off.
Bless your heart.
"I did tell the coaches that I did want to come back to Michigan," Bielfeldt said. "But at the end of the day things didn't work out and we both decided to move on."
Bielfedlt added, "I told (coaches) that I wanted to stay (and) Michigan was my first choice but as time went on I had to explore other options."
your downvotes kindly requested
I mean, you type sentences in all caps so we should absolutely listen to you because you're so knowledgable. You keep trotting those two quotes out because that is all you have. You are pissed at Beilein because you think he's a bad coach when in reality he let a 5th year senior walk who averaged 5 points and 4 boards for us. Maybe Beilein wanted to get Wilson and Wagner and Doyle and Donnal, all with 2 or fewer seasons played of college basketball, as much playing time as possible. Maybe he thought Max had a bad attitude or an entitled attitude and it would have been more harmful than helpful to have him on the team. So until we hear both sides of the story, which we won't, you can still fuck off
LOL
1) Those quotes pretty definitively settle the discussion: It was Beilein that pushed Max out the door, not the other way around.
2) Beilein pushing him out the door in order to get Wilson, Wagner, and Doyle - all who were ineffectual and played extremely limited minutes anyways - is not a good argument for Beilein's coaching ability.
Are you arguing with him or just agreeing in an insulting manner.
you a few posts up. Thanks for making my point!
Or the guy he thought would replace Max and had confidence in turned out to be a stinker when it really mattered, like during the actual game.
Not only is he tough, but he shot over 40% from 3 this year. Beilein has been looking for a 3 pt shooting big man forever, he had one already and let him walk to a Big Ten rival. Cue Alanis Morrissette.
time in Ann Arbor he was talked about with the same glowing terms you now have for Doyle, Chatman, Wilson and Wagner.
