Max Bielfeldt Appreciation Thread

Submitted by fortissimosca on

I know Spike was definitely the feature yesterday, but Max wasn't really mentioned in the two recaps so I thought he deserved some extra praise.  Not just for coming off the bench to grab two huge offensive rebounds, but also hitting the floor to grab a loose ball in the last minute. At that point I thought to myself "it's clear who wants to win this game more."  That kind of grit got me off the couch to put in a workout and will probably get me through some extra hours at work this week.  Thank you, Mr. Calves!

You are such a whiny old man. Newsflash: people from wherever can say what they want. You're just finding something to piss and moan about with me, like you do in every thread.

This is more than a sports blog, its our lives, you fool. I want to see pointless internet arguments while I eat my falafel. I do think it is interesting that people are not Getting pissed about others discussing a college kid's legs, however. Although I do know a member of the basketball team's training staff and it has joked about there too for a while.

I hope we finish strong and at least make the NIT. I didn't say anything in the CIT/CBA thread (or whatever those other tournaments are called). Part of me wishes they'd accept a bid if that's what it came to for the lower tourney just so Bielfeldt, Dakich, Lonergan, Chatman, and Donnal can get some more PT. College is fleeting, I'd want every opportunity I could get to suit up in the maize and blue if I was fortunate enough to be a player.

I'd love to see Max light up some lower-level club with 17 points like he did earlier in the year.

I'm so proud of him, I named a building after him!  The Bielfeldt Administration building...  Oh wait, too late for that one.  Bielfeldt beat me to it!

I actually thought max just had an ok game. had his usual great hustle plays, but played a huge part in our long stretch of no fgs due to his hesitancy of finishing his roll to the hoop and a missed open layup. thought Raftery did a good job of calling that out

He is maybe 6"7", but probably 6' 6".  He is going against 6'9" and 6'10" all day.  Plus those guys are long and can jump out of gym. A guy like that going into the tress has got to throw some curveballs into his repetoire. I too wished he would have powered it up, but man I will take it.

He has learned to adapt and he is used to getting his shot swatted.  We don't win that game, no way, no how with out him.  His rebounding in second half, his slide play, his help defense down low.  He is so physicallyovermatched, it is incredible what he did.

I love that Beilein predicted Max would be 'unstoppable'.

Rich kid, undersized, and is as scrappy as everyone in the country. Spike and him are fantastic leaders for this team.

My understanding is Max probably only comes back for his 5th year if we whiff on recruits. So who knows, but I'd be glad to see him back.

It is unbelievable what he is asked to do.

The type of kids Beilien (ability to be coached) recruits and the coaching they receive is incredible. Jordan Morgan absolutely maximized his talent with Beilein/Alexander.

He is so undersized and underathletic ( I know not a word, but you get the gist) it is amazing what he is accomplishing. Amazing.

In addition, I have been pretty critical of Irvin, but he was driving and scoring????  That was a really nice game by Zak. The kid is  a winner.

much had to remake his entire game going from the 2nd or 3rd option to 1st while surrounded with basically freshmen learning the system.  That's a tough jump when you don't have necessarily reliable scoring threats on the floor with you. I love the energy he came out with yesterday and that things are starting to gel for him.

I have to say, I didn't appreciate Max very much when he missed the front end of the 1 and 1 and then subsequently missed the bunny layup on the next possession.  However, I got over it after the loose ball dive.
