Maui Invivtational Brackets Revealed
The EA Sports Maui Inviational brackets have been revealed, with Michigan drawing Memphis in the first round. If they win, they will play the winner of Duke and Tennessee. The brackets are shown in the video of the link below, 36 seconds in.
Test right off the bat, I love it. Coach B is the bees' knees.
I like Devin Gardner too, but can we get an action shot with a football jersey on maybe? Kind of weird having another man with a white b holding money as your pic. Maybe its just me though. And yes i realize i dont have 1 and i dont care.
Tough opening against Memphis. Not particularly fond of Michigan's chances in that matchup.
I'd take Memphis over the alternatives. Memphis tends to have a lot of talent, but is typically very undisciplined. Michigan and Coach B thrive against that type of team. See e.g. Tennessee in last years NCAA tourney.
That's a good point, especially since we've got some good senior leadership and experience on the team. Obviously there is a big question mark at PG right now, but all our other positions are staffed by sophmores or higher.
Full disclosure: Having grown up in Memphis, this is my nightmare scenario since the Tigers are my second favorite team. With that said, the PG matchup will be interesting. Memphis PG Joe Jackson struggled most of the season as a freshman, but he started to put it together in March. If he reverts back to his old habits then Burke should hold his own.
Well, we'll certainly find out who we are right quick. Wouldn't mind facing Tennessee, though - I seem to recall that going well...
This tournament is such an awesome thing IMO.
Its gives Michigan what is likely to be 3 chances for a quality win, regardless of what they do in each game.
Of course leaving Hawaii 0-3 would be no good at all, but I don't think that'll happen. Almost every scenario I can think of gives Michigan a chance for some fun but winable games that could help our resume in March.
I guess the worst possible scenario would be to lose to Memphis, lose to Tennessee, and then end up playing Chaminade in the 7th / 8th place game.
Other than that, I am very excited for this tournament!
I want a rematch vs Duke in the second round. Lets beat Memphis please!
We beat Tennessee, and Tennessee killed Memphis
So by the totally non-existent transitive property of sports, we shall destroy Memphis!
They always have a crap load of talent, now its just the product they put on the floor. They usually have a top 5 class but are not consistent. Regardless a great early test for our squad.
No matter what, a rematch from last year's tourney. Also, how awesome is that week gonna be?
Saturday, November 19th - Michigan vs. Nebraska
Monday, November 21st - Michigan vs. Memphis
Tuesday, November 22nd - Michigan vs. Tennessee/Duke
Wednesday, November 23rd - Michigan vs. some other awesome team
Thursday, November 24th - Our stomachs vs. endless food
Saturday, November 26th - Michigan vs. Ohio
Anyone going to be in attendance at all six of those events?
Win's the award for least sleep over a week long period ever.
Thursday, November 24th - Packers at Lions
It should also be mentioned that the MHSAA football finals are on the 25th and the 26th. My Alma Mater, Muskegon, will be a D-2 contender. It would be great to see them go up against Farmington Hills Harrison, who will be the odds on favorite to repeat as champs.
some lucky basketball daily writer is gonna have one hell of a sporting week
Hockey is also home on the 18th and 19th against Ohio and then on the 25th and 27th against Northeastern and Union.
But, getting by Memphis will be the first order of business. Geez, what a huge 8 day period for Michigan fans: Nebraska at home on Nov. 19th, the Maui Inv. Nov. 21-23rd, and TSIO comes to AA the 26th. I'll be so damned hyped up I won't be able to get anything else done - including Thanksgiving!
Tennessee, huh?
but a 10am game has to suck to open the tourney. I would think the more prepared/well-coached team would get the advantage in an early morning game.
But thats 3 pm here and I would have to imagine they will still be on EST somewhat
...if we had DMO. Some tough matchups for a frosh.
A lot of rematches in the bracket - UT, KU, Duke - including 2 heartbreaking losses.
This looks like a solid bracket. Memphis will be a good test for Michigan early on. And Michigan needs it since their non-conference schedule isn't as good as last years. Hopefully they go deep into this tourney to help their cause in March. I have a feeling they'll need a good run to boost their RPI. If they beat Memphis, a second round matchup would be nice since they played both Duke/UT in last years tourney. I think they would be confident in against either opponent assuming they get past the Tigers. Go Blue!!!!
Michigan could be a better team than last year and go 0-3. I'll be happy if they get out with 1-2, and really happy if they can get two wins.
We have the most experience in the field.
