Maty Mauk
There is a thread behind the paywall on one of the Ohio HS sports sites (jjhuddle.com) that is titled "Maty Mauk headed to Michigan." The last poster on the thread is someone I communicate with that is from one town over Kenton, where Mauk is in school. I have pinged him for more info. Anybody else hearing anything about Mauk? Tom VH?
Scout has him as the #10 QB and 4 stars. Rivals has him as a 3 star.

They could mean either a visit or a commitment when they say "headed to Michigan". I wonder which. For that matter, they could mean that he is heading to one of the other Michigan schools, presumably MSU. But he did visit here recently if I recall, so a UM commit would make the most sense . . . Wait and see, I guess . . .
Those are all possibilites, but I thought I would post the info and try to find out more.
I have been hearing Missouri all week, just content its not ND at this point
Now that you've made another "good thing mauk isn't going to ND" comment, would you please elaborate! You guys appear to be out of it for Keil (same here apparently) and don't have a lot of offers out.
Let's put it this way:
Quarterbacks with attitude issues tend not to work out very well.
Unless you have specific info, why start a rumor about a high school kid's character like this? Have you met him or heard something that's extremely credible, specific, and damning?
Yes.
If you exclude any attitude issues, how good of a QB prospect is he and would he be a good fit in a Borges offense?
Would he fit in Borges' offense? Sure. He's mobile and pretty accurate.
Physically, he could be a decent college quarterback. I don't think he's a superstar (lacks great arm strength, size, and mechanics), but he could be a serviceable QB. He might be a decent bridge between Gardner and Morris. But to me he looks like a kid who might be better suited playing for Mike Leach or June Jones.
We don't need no stinkin' attitudes.
I'm going to need more evidence of this attitude thing not working out...
I'm not sure why you included Threet in that post...
those who stay?
Logic fail. Transfers do not equal attitude.
...he just wasn't that good. I wish he had done as I suggested during the original Threet transfer thread and transfer to an MIAA or GLIAC school close to home. He would probably have saved himself a concussion or two and would probably still be playing.
Now, all one can hope for is that he has a good life ahead of him and that his injuries and concussions don't decrease the quality of his life going forward. He gave his best and didn't bitch on the way out. You really can't ask for more out of a kid.
Well, Bo retired and took a job with the Detroit Tigers. So I guess he's not a champion, either, right?
Silly little sayings like that are fine for inspiration, but they don't apply to every situation.
I like it!!! except for Threet who was one of the most level headed guys I know. Great guy. He came here for the right reasons and obviously left for the right reasons.
Is being the H during the osu game, so yeah, that was a problem.

/joke
Threet had a great attitude, it wasn't his fault he was thrust into a role he wasn't prepared to play.
Yeah its getting pretty redundant now, I was going to edit it out.
Just not a fan of his. ND's QB roster isn't likely to change next year unless someone transfers or Crist becomes a first round draft pick. If one of those does happen, Massa a QB last season, now a WR, can provide a season of depth if needed. I would rather ND picks up an extra OL, DB....really any other position than TE and QB
They only take high-character, leadership types. Like Jimmy Clausen.
Too bad... Morris vs Mauk in 2014 would be a disaster for you guys IMO
He sent me a text that said his decision will be in a few weeks.
favorites? what are michigan's chances with him?
could mean other things than a commitment.. Just as your title "Maty Mauk" could have meant anything ..both could use some better defining ...although they get paid customers so i understand their reason..yours not so much
My title was that way because there isn't room enough in the subject line to explain all the possible meanings and if i repeated their headline it might have overstated what's going on.
What should I title my threads?
Please make your thread titles as informative as possible: "Justin Feagin" is bad. "Justin Feagin leaving the team?" is good. http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/mgoboard-faq
How about "Maty Mauk Headed to Michigan?"
that'd work. Then speculate on if he's expected to commit or visit
Redundant.
I read the JJHuddle thread (have a subscription) and will say that the title of that post is speculation.
thanks
That picture looks like Rodney Dangerfield, Princess Leia, and George Washington had a Manage O' Three....
and the rest of the coaching staff enough to feel that they will definitely consider a recruits character before extending an offer. Hoke is smart enough to know what happens when a player has character issues. Now Rich Rodriguez .... that is another story.
Rodriguez didn't let Tate Forcier walk all over him in 2010. The DD saga was unfortunate, but admissions put their foot down and didn't let him in with his academic issues. The coach alone doesn't speak for the university; there are multiple layers of bureaucracy in place to prevent marginal students, athletes or not, from getting into the university.
Rich Rod did such a horrible job, he should never have gotten Denard. Nice logic.
That Denard Robinson is one heck of problem........ For the rest of the Big Ten.
lets be real, there were a few more high profile academic and character issues under RR than before. DD and Tate are the obvious ones, I know there are more but I don't want to throw around names. Boys will be boys, but we can't go Dantonio now can we?
Not really, Carr recruited his fair share of kids with character issues. Just because a couple kids not getting in was made more public doesn't mean RR recruited more questionable kids than previous regimes.
/fucklion'd
the term "flamebait" was coined for just this kind of post
For those wondering about Maty's skill set and/or character, i have played against Maty (Actually intercepted him! although he was a freshman at the time lol) and have ran track against him where i have talked to him multiple times. First of all Maty's athleticism is greatly underated. And to be honest i didnt think he was all that athletic either until i played close attention this year during track. Dont feel like looking his times and jumps up and what not but im pretty sure he hit a high 22 this year in the 200m and i believe he jumped 23 ft. a couple times in the long jump..and on top of that he was the anchor of their 4x1 team that went to state and the 4x2 that shoulda went but they got disqualified in our regional meet. For his size and being a QB, he can move.
And although one can argue that Kenton's receivers made Maty look good with all the bubbles and slip screens they run, he simple picked apart every defense he played against. Kid has good field awareness and one hell of an arm.
Now i dont personally know know Maty so therefore i dont know a whole lot about his character but what from i do know is that Maty is like any other kid. And from talking to him at track meets, he doesnt really talk a whole lot, nor does he come off as an cocky ass like most probably think he does.
And just throwing my opinion out there...ive scrimaged against tyler occoner and we did a 7on7 against LCC last year...I would definitely have to go with Maty Mauk over Ty Occonor
That is the kind of opinion I would trust over anyone elses. You may not be an expert. But if you have played against him you obviously know what he can do. Sign him up.
On the SBNation website it says he is visiting Michigan.
http://www.maizenbrew.com/2011/6/18/2222989/recruiting-update-june-18-2…
He did account for 85 TD's as a Junior. Sign him up.
