Mattison walks in on meeting between Narduzzi, McDowell

Submitted by Cold War on

On the first day contact was allowed during the latest recruiting period under NCAA rules, Michigan State defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi, Michigan defensive coordinator Greg Mattison and Alabama assistant Bobby Williams were patiently biding their time at the school.

McDowell arrived at school, entered a tiny office and sat against the left wall in the middle of a row of chairs. At a small round table, Narduzzi began speaking, talking about football, about life, about his future in both areas — the door closed for just the two of them.

“Michigan State was here, then Michigan came, they just walked right in and sat down,” McDowell said. “That was pretty funny. I was just sitting there watching … (Coach) Narduzzi was sitting right here. It just all stopped. Then (Mattison) was like, ‘Oh, is this a bad time?’ It made me laugh.”

No matter who's side you are on, you have to feel for these coaches.

Narduzzi probably practiced his little soliloquy in his head a hundred times and was pouring his heart out to a 17 year old kid when . .  ."Squirrel!" . . . his attention span was broken by another coach walking in, which the kid merely found funny.  And this was probably one of his better visits.

This is from the Lincoln Journal Star -- Regarding Bo Pelini and George O'Leary showing up at a recruit's house at the same time (emphasis mine).

So if you're going to take the journey, you best do it with some humor.
And you'd have to say it's somewhat humorous when Bo Pelini shows up at the doorstep of a Central Florida commit at the same time as Central Florida coach George O'Leary... We know this happened on Tuesday thanks to Twitter, and a tweet from the recruit both coaches showed up to see.
"Coach pelini and coach o'leary came at the exact same time... #fireworks #bumpinheads" tweeted defensive tackle Jamiyus Pittman.

The exerpts that you used don't talk about a coach knowingly interrupting another and those two schools are not rivals. The part on humour looks like it is from the author's mind and not from a coach otherwise it should be cited as such. I do appreciate what you did as opposed to name calling and making nonsensical opinions out to be facts.

I find the longer you do something the more you allowed to say almost anything you want.  I bet Narduzzi thought it was funny too and wished he could have said it.  I suspect there was more to the story like Narduzzi getting 30 minutes and then going over his time allotment..

If there isn't some relationship between Narduzzi and Mattison. I am sure Mattison wouldn't have come in if he thought there was a chance he'd get decked in the face or bad mouthed for it later on.

WTF is the deal with Narduzzi still coaching at MSU?  Why isn't he the head coach somewhere else by now?  What, is he waiting for Saban to retire?

that Mattison actually think Narduzzi is a hell of a defensive coach.  I doubt he was disrespecting him.  He was just being a ballsy jokester.

I think people can spin this a lot of different ways to either look good or bad. We only have a little information to go by, so no one really knows if Mattison purposely interrupted Narduzzi or not. Also, I too am curious where people are reading that this is a race between everyone else, but Michigan. The little information I have gathered is that no one knows one way or another how this will turn out. I am keeping my hopes up; and I am also happy with the group we have committed to us currently.
