But what I do have are two friends Ed and Ray who have a very particular set of skills; skills they have acquired over their very long careers. Skills that make them a nightmare for people like you. If you let go now to Michigan, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, they will look for you, they will find you, and you will not be drafted.

I've always wondered what kind of Canadian following we have (if any) as well as if any other college programs have any sort of following...

Seems like Southern Ontario would be a great place to market Big Ten teams and gain additional BTN revenues but maybe there just isn't any interest in football?

Couldn't we have kept RR, made this awesome hire and saved ourselves a lot of trouble and had a potential great 2011 in the works, complete with a full top 15 recruiting class?

Maybe Mattison--check that---definitely Mattison is not coming if Rodriguez didn't get canned.

Just gonna have to face it--Rodriguez is gone and deservedly so.

But keep trying! Click your heels together, find a lucky charm, break a wishbone, or better yet, wish in one hand and shit in the other and see which one gets filled first!

I cannot wait to find out what he's being paid.  Compared to what may have been offered to Jeff Casteel.

What makes you think that Mattison would leave the Ravens knowing that he was likely out of a job in a year? RR couldn't hire any top DCs because he couldn't guarantee that they would be more than a band aid for a year while we waited for the next up and coming coach.

I'm guessing the post got pulled because no one remembers it, but there was a guy at WVU that said he had inside info. Basically, they gave RR the month to find a top DC. No one would come for the money, so they bumped his cap to $1 million. No one would come unless they had a guaranteed two years. RR asked for the extension and they laughed at him. Supposedly, that's why he was begging for his job at senior night. Everything that the guy said fits with what has happened recently, so I'm inclined to believe him.

I don't know that RR probably would have been fired after the 2011 season, but certainly he would have been at greater risk than Hoke is now and you're right that this would have affected our ability to hire a DC. In any case that's moot now and this looks like a very good hire.

This just in.  After the hire, Brandon is lead into a room for celebration, only behind the curtain emerges Rich Rod, decked in leftover donated Michigan Gear that doesn't quite fit.  Brandon laughs but the overjoyed elation quickly halts as Brady Hoke appears behind RichRod, with his hand on RR's shoulder.

Brandon's smile fades.

He turns around in a daze to see MSC appear, with a bright white light cast from below, light bending around her face revealing a translucent orange halo around her skin.

Brandon slowly backs away as they all descend upon him.

Later it is revealed Brady Hoke was brought in as the new AD, while RR is retained as HC.  Mattison the new DC, and droves of recruits pour in as the Harbaugh Bros establishes a pipeline to the NFL via Mich.

I like your thinking and it seems RR+GM could be great.  However, Mattison would never come work for RR.  One problem RR had allegedly, was that many thought he would not survive so he had trouble recruiting a top DC.  This was allegedly, a consideration in his firing.

Pretty well placed source said DB warned RR late in the year (not sure when) that to save his job he needed to recruit a top fligtht  DC.  RR apparently had trouble lining up appropriate talent because he only had a year left and the prevailing view was that he would not survive.  No top DC wanted to risk a move to A2 only to be broomed later with RR.  RR allegedly asked DB for another year and DB said no.

I was not a big fan of the Hoke hire, but the good news is he brought certainty to the coaching situation and made Michigan less toxic than under RR for aspiring coaches.
