Matt Millen Comment - Instant Classic

I may be late chiming in on this, but did anyone notice Millen's comment on UNC and Butch Davis towards the end of the game.  If not, you have to go back and check it out.  It is a classic!  He was talking about the then-upcoming UNC-LSU matchup and said (and I'm paraphrasing) something to the effect that Butch Davis has done a great job at UNC.  He qualified it saying that he's done a great job at UNC, regardles of what has happened the past few days.  My jaw hit the floor when I heard it.  I bet Millen thinks that he did a good job with the Lions and is a good broadcaster too.    What a f-ing moron.

If you talk for a living...you will make your share of gaffes.

But damn...he sure did suck with the Lions.   Set us back a decade....

Being a television analyst vs a being a general manager involves an entirely different skill set. He sucked atrociously as a GM, but a qualified owner should have recognized this much earlier in his tenure and canned him. What makes Millen's time with the Lions so painful is that he was allowed so many seasons to be a fuck up.

As a coach, Butch knows his shit. Coker won the 2001 and competed for the 2002 national championship with Butch's players before he left Miami. Miami had been in a rut until he got there and turned it around. He did the same at UNC. The guy can flat out recruit and coach.

he said it doesn't take away from what he's gotten done at UNC. what was UNC 5 yrs ago? a decade ago? they almost beat LSU. he's done a lot with some average'ish players. unless he's implicated to have been directly involved in the violations or to have known, etc, the comment is correct.

Would you rather have your school ranked in the Top 25 and have a ton of serious NCAA violations to deal with or be an average respectible team at a great university?  I'll take the latter.  The hammer is going to come down on UNC on his watch.  Nice work, Butch.  I could care less how he can recruit idiots or coach X's and O's on the field.  He's no leader.
