Matt Falcon Decommits

Per his Twitter account. This certainly seemed inevitable, looking forward to seeing who we end up with at RB(Kareem please)!

Medical staff advised him to not play football and to fully rehab his knee.

He went against their wishes and played anyways. Went down with a knee injury and had to get his second knee surgey within a year.

I don't know the whole story but it seems things soured between him and the coaches since then.

I mean hadn't we already know that he wasn't playing fb even if he came to UM. Wish him the best and I'm glad the coaches have him enough time to make the decision he feels is best for him.

If I was a teenager in his position, I would probably be a little salty too. I don't follow recruiting closely, but I'm assuming when he committed, he was at least under the assumption he would get a chance to play. Then we told him no. Perfectly reasonable to be a little upset. But good luck to him as long as it's not against Michigan

he was going to have a chance to play, but UM also suggested strongly that he sit out and fully rehab his multi-injured knee and his scholarship would be good even without the SR year. He (his parents it sounded like actually) decided he should go ahead and play anyway for that last bit of high school, and then he blew out the knee... again...

It's understandable from his point of view of wanting to play, but he has to understand where UM is coming from as well.

Yeah, I was kind of curious about some of his phrasing, like "Coach Harbaugh did not give me the opportunity to play" and playing for an "ELITE (all caps)" team. While I totally get his frustration, the team was honest with their concerns. It's not like they waited until after he signed to break the news. I see nothing sinister here.
The staff merely wants to invest in someone who has a higher percentage likelihood to play. People can form their opinions as they wish. But Matt now can live his dreams of playing D1 football, and Michigan can (hopefully) get themselves a great replacement.

I want to know if his head coach is happy, costing him a chance to play for UM by pushing or simply allowing him to play for Southfield when the coaches said not to.

If I were an 18 year old and football was my everything, I would probably feel the same way he does. Think that despite what injuries I had I could still come back and play and not worry about injuries anymore. Being a grown adult with some perspective now, I can look back and see that 18 year old me would've been very unwise to give up a free education at UM and that that will likely open so many more doors and opportunities in the long run than playing football at a lesser school.

TL;DR, I get where he's coming from and don't blame him one bit, but a free UM education is better than maybe playing football somewhere else in the end, IMHO.

This can't be true but I know it is. I dont think I'd want to be so endowed that museums want it haha. "Sir, are you an organ donor? Other than....sir....sir, other than that...organ....are you a donor? You can put that away now, sir. I see it. Yes, I see it. We all see it. Do I think it's beautiful?! WTfu....I JUST WANT TO KNOW IF YOU'RE DONATING ANYTHING ELSE!" LOL

None of us know both sides of the story. I am happy that Michigan replaced his football scholarship offer with a medical scholarship. That was a very nice thing to do that wasn't required.

This stinks all around for the kid...did Harbaugh just think that his past injuries would prevent him from being a productive back? From what I've seen, Michigan needs to bring in all the RB' s it can find because their current stable of backs is putrid

That's pretty harsh. Let's not forget that De'Veon said he just learned how to pass block this year. De'Veon and Green have had two years of awful coaching and Isaac had one in addition to his internal issues. Higdon is a freshman.

These are 18, 19 or 20 year old kids and still developing as players. They don't owe us as fans/donors/ticket holders anything except their best efforts. Sometimes they aren't going to enjoy success (although I'll take 8-2 and I'd challenge you that non-injured angry De'Veon Smith was pretty damned solid). Criticism of their play is okay but I think your use of the term "putrid" is weak. Very weak.
