Mascot(!) Panic Thread

This picture is from the cheer team's recent competition in Florida....

If you want to see the thing, click the link, and select Intermediate Coed from the competition selector above the video and then scroll through the list and look for Michigan. Or just type Michigan into the search bar and select "all competitions" and find the one that has this set up.

Viewer discretion is as advised.

He (literally) doesn’t get it. Seriously though, you’re cool with the gradual encroachment on the program we keep experiencing in the form of hashtags on the field, Rawk music, etc? Mascot talk is a clear escalation, and cannot be tolerated.

My personal reasons:

1. Mascots creep me the fuck out.

2. The only reason I can think that schools would keep a mascot around is the history of the mascot, and we haven't had one, so why should we get one.

3. Mascots don't make anything better. As a matter of fact, whenever you hear a story about a mascot, it's about how they embarrassed the school in some way.

4. There are some shitty looking mascots, ours would probably be too.

What's the worst that happens?  Some old fucks see the mascot and have a heart attack?  Some whiny ass alums return their diplomas to Mary Sue?  I don't think adding a mascot is going to stop the Al Glicks of the world from donating.

then you are doing it wrong. Kids have a good time you never notice anything because you are watching football, what part of this is that bad? yeah if the mascot looks dumb its stupid but the idea of a mascot literally has no bearing on the atmosphere for you at a game.

Neither then do advertisements on the scoreboards, Michigan Stadium brought to you by ____, even more obnoxious music (say dubstep), permanent hashtags, corporate flags flown around the stadium instead of the current big ten team flags, sponsored events such as interceptions (and that was an allstate good hands interception!), advertisements on the big screens during timeouts, I could go on.

And yet no of these have anything to do with a mascot as a cheerleading event. For all we know, the rules at the cheerleading event dictate that all teams have a mascot.
