Okay then.

Meh, it doesn't even seem that bad after their ridiculous split maryland flag debacle uniforms. What's with the throwing star pattern on the helmet though?
EDIT: I should have read the link. It's shaped like Fort McHenry

I first saw these on another site that didn't have the Fort McHenry explanation, and I thought that it was the silhouette of a turtle that got run over by a (very patriotic) steamroller.

Oh, and school colors are every color in the crayon box.

Love them. Digging the weathered paper look.

I actually like these. When you post Maryland and Uniformz I was in massive fright based on those things from 3 years ago. These are pretty clean down the body with some frills on the outer edge of the uniform so its fine by me. And they are probably pretty educational as well when players have some free time at their lockers to read their unis.
Disclosure: I'm pro parchment

The look itself is OK. The problem is that there's literally nothing in the uniform, except for the word "Maryland" on the front of the jerseys in small type, that indicates that this is the University of Maryland. Even Oregon's constantly changing neon-black-anthracite uniforms feature consistent motifs, like the wings and the "O" logo. These could be from any school.

It's cool that they did the photoshoot actually at Fort McHenry.
Could you imagine being a tourist walking around the 200 year old cannons and seeing some guy in full football gear standing on the wall? You would be like WTF, did I go in the wrong line?
September 9th, 2014 at 11:54 AM ^
Ft. McHenry huh. I thought it was a turtle(terrapin).
September 9th, 2014 at 10:40 AM ^
I mean, the original poem was written in Maryland, right?
Still pretty terrible, but there's some rhyme or reason to it, I guess.

on football uniforms. Maybe we could have some uniforms with Sufjan Stevens lyrics on them?
By a priest and the maid on the part
Still know what to wear on my back
Michigan Ponshewaing Cadillac
I was raised, I was raised
In the place, in the place
Still I often think of going back
To the farms, to the farms
Golden arms, golden arms
Start to remind me
If the cars drove themselves, way to be
Opposite the trains moving in
Rivers run interstate, Michigan

This one also makes sense as this weekend is the star-spangled banner anniversay celebration and it is going on in Baltimore, they aren't just completely random.

As far as UNIFORMZ (2 EXTREME 4 U) go, these are not horrible. Having the uniforms actually have some symbology that means something is nice.
September 9th, 2014 at 12:30 PM ^
Pardon me, but that's XTREME
September 9th, 2014 at 10:47 AM ^
For those unaware, this weekend is the bicentennial of the Battle of Baltimore, which inspired Francis Scott Key to write the poem "The Star-Spangled Banner."

I don't care for 'em.
They look like something the USNA turned down.

I would wear something with a crushed Buckeye nut if I were VT.
September 9th, 2014 at 9:02 PM ^
Next thing you know they'll be picking something awkward like chicago maroon and burnt orange as their school colors.

United States Flag Code
176 (j) The flag should not be used as part of a costume or athletic uniform, except that a flag patch may be used on the uniform of military personnel, firefighters, police officers, and members of patriotic organizations.
That being said. The uniforms look pretty cool, actually.

This is because back in the day people realized that regardless of the merits to a strong military, healthy societies keep them behind closed doors.
My how that equation has changed.
I think the uni's look really nice though (and appropriate for a program with limited tradition). They are way better than NW last year.

what about flag bikinis?
September 9th, 2014 at 11:10 AM ^
The poem they screened on the bottom of the shoes is the basis for our National Anthem. Maryland will be trouncing all over the National Anthem.

They aren't as bad as I imagined they could be. I actually don't mind Maryland's other uniforms either. The only thing that looks bad on this jersey to me is the declaration going down onto the shoulders/sleeves of the jersey. It looks fine on the helmet. I like it quite a bit more than NW's patriotic jerseys.

Would've had no clue that was Maryland if not for the very small type in the top picture - these aren't even their school colors. The writing and weathered paper on the helmet and shoulders is just weird

It doesn't scream university of maryland immediatley but it is being used for a game being played on the bicentennial of the writing of the star spangled banner which happened during the battle of baltimore. Baltimore, as you may know is in Maryland. It's an interesting thing to do for one game and it makes sense for this game, I think it looks pretty cool. It's not like Maryland has some historical look that if you saw them on the field you would recognize them with no name anyways, they would probably just be another team in a red jersey.
September 9th, 2014 at 12:09 PM ^
They get credit for no blood spatter. NU set the patriotic-uniform-bar rather low.
September 9th, 2014 at 12:17 PM ^
Maryland, the Oregon of the East. Except with a shitty football team and no Nike support.
September 9th, 2014 at 12:32 PM ^
Now you're just somebody that I used to know.
September 9th, 2014 at 12:40 PM ^
But the love is still there.
September 9th, 2014 at 12:21 PM ^
I like these the same way I liked the Navy ones. They show some original thought and reflect something unique and indeginous to Maryland. They are not just the output of the UA/Nike/Addidas random uniformz generator.
If you are going to go all uniformz, then do it with some intelligence even if some people won't get it.

I mean, at this point, what could anyone possibly do to shock us? Once Northwestern put actual blood spatter on their uniforms last year to "honor" wounded vetrans, I decided we had pretty much jumped the shark.
September 9th, 2014 at 2:27 PM ^
They're actually breaking "flag law" with these uniforms, but whatever.
September 9th, 2014 at 5:24 PM ^
The US Flag Code is non-legally binding. They're just respectful suggestions that most people happen to follow.
September 9th, 2014 at 6:45 PM ^
They don't run afowl of "Bird Law" though, do they?
