They're more than a one hit wonder. Since PSU joined the conference, they've been much better than Indiana, Illinois and Purdue. In fact, since PSU joined the Big Ten Northwestern has as many big ten titles as Penn St.
Maryland prez leaks Conference divisions
"Surging Rutgers"? Seriously?
Have you seen the teams they play each week in the Big East? Have you seen what happened to WVU this season after moving from the Big East to a real conference? Rutgers is going to get pimp slapped when they join the B1G.
shit has a way of happening.
I cannot abide by these divisions
Yet another reason to hate this expansion move. It's great we'll get to go to Camp Randall and Happy Valley once a decade or so.
Why not have a vote in the top 16 (or use the BCS ranking) to have the 2 best B1G teams play each other? We can have equal scheduling, with 1 or 2 protected rivalries? This also encourages scheduling tougher OOC teams.
Scheduling would just be a rotation of teams every year.
The Philly/DC/NYC area has a ton of Fball and recruiting potential, but this alignment hoses us from frequent appearances in those markets.
Thanks, Mr Delany.
Yep. Another reason we got screwed again.
I dunno what all the tears are about -- I see the Legends division looking like the pre-PSU days of the Big Ten, with not that dissimilar scheduling. Six original Big Ten teams (plus Nebraska as a trade for, which, Wisconsin?) plus the crossover with OSU is effectively an 8 team league from a Michigan perspective (7 of 8 in the original Big Ten). Sure we don't see the other three (Wisconsin, Indiana and Purdue) as often, but didn't those always rotate in and out?
So now it's almost a geographical alignment. Why not go whole hog and make it purely geographical?
Michigan, minnesota, nebraska and wisconsin to the Big 12 per Onion Sports.
I think Hoke and Co. can spin winning the Legends division 3 out of every 4 years as a positive for recruiting. Wasn't there also talk about adding a 9th conference game and dropping the non-conference to 3?
So OSU can just crazy glue whatever trophy you get for winning whatever the name of their division is to the Horseshoe because it ain't moving anytime soon. PSU could barely beat OSU even when they were relevant. Throw in those other teams plus sometimes good Wisconsin and OSU can breeze to Indy.
The only positive is that the B1G leftovers aren't that good right now.
I try not to get caught up in tinfoil hat conspiracy theories but Jeebus, is Delany sucking on OSU's d*ck or what? Each of the last two expansions has made things easier for OSU and harder for UM.
Whatever. UM's path to the division crown is way easier, and at this point I kind of expect GT and UNC to join, which would further throw this stuff up in the air.
I probably sound overly simplistic, but if UM plays MSU and OSU every year, I'm good. This is a program that shouldn't care if it plays Indiana, Purdue, or Minny every couple of years - they are all the same overmatched opponent to me.
Why the hell can't we just do east/west and draw the line straight through the state of Indiana.
So since we'll play MD and Rut once every thousand years this new "recruiting territory" will really only benefit PSU and OSU it seems. Great....
This whole deal stinks like a six pack of assholes. Michigan and Ohio should have been in the same division to begin with.
Dumb Dumb Dumb Dumb Dumb Dumb Dumb Dumb
In all reality, with the direction teams in the legends division are going right now, If we beat Nebraska I like are chances of going to Indy every year.
I hope the Mayans were right.
I mean, the Big Ten died today. All the history, all the tradition. It is totally gone for Rutgers and Maryland. WTF? I know that Brian was joking and all, but we really should just call the local tattoo place, have them put OSU on the phone and join the damn SEC. What is the point of hanging around this conference anymore?
Actually, i have an idea. Let's start a new conference with following schools: Michigan, MSU, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Purdue, Illinois, Northwestern, Indiana, and Iowa. i wonder if that would work?
If we sacraficed Jim Delany to whatever the hell god the Mayans worshiped, could we please have an actual conference again? (OK that probably wouldn't work, but let's give it a try!)
...just go to eight 10-team divisions. N, NE, NW, S, SE, SW, E, W
