Maryland Defense under Durkin?

Submitted by EastCoast Esq. on

How is Maryland's defense looking under Durkin? I can obviously look up the statistics, but I'm wondering if anybody has been watching them.

From a quick glance at their schedule it seems like it has been fairly bad, but that might be because they are still trying to become scheme-disciplined?

Basically, hoping for some intel on our next victim.

It's not about being "scheme-disciplined," it's about being undersized up front and lacking talent on the back end...oh, and they just lost the team's best player.

They have one of the worst run defenses in FBS.  Their pass defense has been pretty good but when you can get 220 yards on the ground, passing isn't a big necessity.

It is common knowledge that it takes at least a year to gain respect for any head coach whose name rhymes with "gerkin." So nobody is expecting much out of Maryland this year. Next year things should pick up.

2016 Maryland Defense:

Pts/Game:    23    8th in the BIG10

Yds/Game: 402  11th in BIG10

Pass Yds:  1,451 4th (because rushing works against Maryland)

Rush Yrds: 1,761 12th (yeesh!)

INTs:      4       14th

Overall not a good picture.

The best thing about Maryland is not defense.

It's their QB Perry Hills. Yeah, I said it.

And two great RBs in both Ty Johnson and Lorenzo Harrison and an OL that can run block.

But Maryland trying to run the ball against Michigan in Ann Arbor, after the MSU game, seems unwise.
