Maryland already knocking Little Brother
I like Maryland more already.
An analysis of the expansion from Maryland's SBNation blog, TestudoTimes, declares the following.
And if you think Maryland doesn't fit in because they're a basketball school, Indiana, Michigan State*, and Illinois say hi.
State has been better at basketball than they have at football for some time, but try telling a state fan that they're a basketball school and enjoy the livid, fuming tirade that ensues. Good show, Maryland. It's like prison. Shank a guy on the first day, and then things will be alright.
*emphasis mine.

Can we just acknowledge that SPARTY NO has returned this season and it's glorious? It was on the verge of becoming irrelevant.
SPARTY NO, THANK GOD I MISSED YOU SO MUCH

Let's not forget the part where they whined afterwards about the unfairness of being lowered in the rankings because they lost the game.

Anyone have a link to that great meme thread with Kirk Cousins (I believe it was him, some State player) complaining?
November 20th, 2012 at 9:07 AM ^
Here: http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/kork-coupons-meme
But it doesn't matter, basically none of the pictures show up anymore
November 19th, 2012 at 9:35 PM ^
I'm hoping for a first class SPARTY NO! moment next week. Failing to become bowl eligible by losing to Minnesota would be an all-timer for sure.
November 19th, 2012 at 8:29 PM ^
Michigan State needs a cross-divisional rivalry with Rutgers though, because their fans have evolved to have analogous traits.
BOOM BIO 171'd!
November 19th, 2012 at 8:29 PM ^
Seriously. East Lansing is like the Jersey of Michigan.
November 19th, 2012 at 8:36 PM ^
Is that why The Situation is such a big Spartan fan?

Battle of the skirt wearing mascots
November 19th, 2012 at 9:46 PM ^
better shape. The Scarlet Knight has flabby arms and looks like a molester.
November 19th, 2012 at 10:06 PM ^
< bro > I'd molest that. </ bro >
Edit: Mod help please. There is no bold tag in my post anywhere. I don't know what's going on here.
November 19th, 2012 at 10:32 PM ^
On behalf of MSU bros, I must correct your terminology. It's not "molest" - it's "tap."
I know because I once said what you've typed in precisely that situation and then been whacked with a fraternity paddle. Oh the horror of prostration.
But that wasn't half as bad when I "spun" my players during foosball; whatever bro-vaccination I may have had was overrun in a parade of bro-sipheric indignation.
Now back to your remark - yeah, I'd tap that. Goddammit I'm glad this is in bold.

It's a pointy bulge, but bulge nonetheless. I think that registers as worse than a camel toe.

the Rutgers cheerleader on the left look like she is packing a penis under her skirt? Is Rutgers where the Crying Game was filmed?
November 20th, 2012 at 6:43 AM ^
Ok, the Brady Hoke picture underneath that comment took it from funny to hilarious.
November 20th, 2012 at 9:11 AM ^
the picture is obviously distorted. That cheerleader is HOT.
November 19th, 2012 at 10:39 PM ^
With the dueling mascots, in those colors, a Christmas date should also be protected by conference bylaw.
November 19th, 2012 at 10:34 PM ^
And they both have Jersey boy Mike Valenti in common!
November 19th, 2012 at 8:28 PM ^
How apropos that you would use a prison analogy when discussing Sparty.
November 19th, 2012 at 8:33 PM ^
Both schools are familier with crabs.
November 19th, 2012 at 8:34 PM ^
Might to be generous to call Illinois a basketball school at this point. They should just be The New Northwestern School
November 19th, 2012 at 8:36 PM ^
University of I Miss Ron Zook.
November 19th, 2012 at 8:37 PM ^
Northwestern's football team is way better and has been for a decade.

it worked!
November 20th, 2012 at 1:45 AM ^
oops. no.
November 20th, 2012 at 1:21 PM ^
True of the past decade, but when was the last time NW won a title? 2000, and it was shared. Illinois won the B1G outright in 2001 and is far superior in basketball.
November 19th, 2012 at 8:41 PM ^
November 19th, 2012 at 8:38 PM ^
I always thought MSU was a basketball school no jokes intended.
November 19th, 2012 at 8:44 PM ^
Yeah I think most Sparty fans I know would admit that they are in fact a basketball school... It's pretty obvious.
November 19th, 2012 at 9:36 PM ^
The answer varies with who you ask:
If you were to ask someone from the MSU Athletic Department they would tell you it's a football school as that is the greatest source of revenue and largest focus of expenses for the University.
If you were to ask the average sports fan from a national persepective, they are a basketball school. They are known as being more competitive in bball than they are in football.
If you were to ask a Spartan fan, they would tell you they are a football school if they understand the extent to which the football progam is the school's main priority (based on finances) or they would tell you they are a bball school if they understand that the school has had more relevant success on the hardcourt.
Reputation=bball school
Allocation of money and key component of reveune=Football school
November 19th, 2012 at 10:37 PM ^
When I was in school they sucked at both basketball and football. They were a hockey school! The post Fab 5 era allow them a window into basketball success.
November 20th, 2012 at 1:26 AM ^
So they got that goin' for them

November 20th, 2012 at 1:23 AM ^
Then as it became clear it was a real story I realized that I'm a DC-area resident. WooHoo!
I overheard a Maryland grad today say something to the effect of
"Every couple of years, we'll sell out FedEx field and make a ton of money playing Michigan.
Too bad we'll get crushed and the stadium will be filled with more Michigan fans than Maryland fans."
November 19th, 2012 at 8:40 PM ^
Well, if I was against Maryland being added to the BIG 10 now they're pretty okay in my book.
Stick it to 'em Terps.
November 19th, 2012 at 8:41 PM ^
They left Purdue off that list.
November 19th, 2012 at 11:56 PM ^
Purdue the neglected redhead step child whose brothers are ND (football) and IU (basketball)?
November 19th, 2012 at 8:53 PM ^
This thread is a good reminder that, even if another 19 teams across 7 time zones join the Big Ten and we only play a given team once every 28 years, all teams will share a common bond of laughing at sparty.
