Mary Sue Coleman at halftime

Did anyone else have the impression that MSC may have tailgates a little too much before the game. That was a hot mess.

The most amazing thing about the halftime with MSC is that she has clearly stated that as long as she is president there will never be alcohol sales in the stadium. It seems that she was able to have access to alcohol. If we as fans are being forced to watch the least imaginative play calling since I have began watching games, the least Mary Sue can do is let us buy alcohol to make it tolerable. The surprising thing is that the are allowing beer sales for the NHL Classic game at the Big House. Money Talks.

How is it surprising they are selling alcohol at the winter classic?? Beer companies sponsor the NHL, this is an NHL event, therefore there will be over priced watered down beer for sale.

U know it was funny at first but that's down right embarrassing for an institution like u of m. I gotta believe if she wasn't retiring she may have been fired for pulling somethn like that

I joked about this earlier, but this really was pretty pathetic. Our President should not be pulling this kind of shit. It's embarrassing, childish, and reflects poorly on the University.

Great point earlier about MSC's stance on alcohol sales at the Big House.  While it is embarassing for an institution like UM, I can live with it and find some joy and laughter in it, it is pretty hypocritical.  What - she's responsible and wise enough to know how to use alcohol but the rest of us aren't?

I just hate hypocrisy.  But I do love an unplanned drunken speech.

Does anybody else find it bizarre that there isn't a video of it yet? (at least that I've seen) Have to imagine the UM Media people will try to make sure this doesn't become a story. Either way I found it pretty telling when the student section went nuts about her speech and everyone else seemed unsure of how to react.

Actually, the thing that I was discussing with those near me was that she had some profound neurological problem; MS or a Parkinsonian syndrome.

The simplest explanation -- that she was completely drunk -- is probably the better one.

It was embarassing.

I do know that there was a big kickoff meeting inside the Crisler Center for elite-level donors to start to raise the $4 Billion-with-a-B, that took place before the game.  Maybe that's where/how she got so completely inebriated.

When the president of a major university gets drunk in front of over 110,000 people, I think it's time to celebrate.  It's much better than the normal "stick up the bum" routine that most college admins use as SOP.

I think it's great when a president remembers she was once a student, too.

is they had a #12 jersey out there with her name on it, had a montage on the jumbotron describing all the great and wonderful things she's done for the University, and she came out to give a completely impromptu speech.  First thing she said was that Brandon surprised her, so you know she was completely unprepared.  She basically slurred through as many Hoke-isms/Bo-isms as possible, mentioning "the team" and "fergodsakes" without any coherence between them at all.  After it was clear that she was completely smashed, I walked to the concourse because I'd never felt more awkward or embarrassed at a football game.  If I saw it on TV, it would have been one of those things where I muted it or changed channels because I just wouldn't have wanted to see it.

A friend of mine who knows somebody who works in MSC's office said she had been told to speak slowly before the speech so her words could be heard through the loudspeaker. As someone who witnessed the speech first-hand, I call complete and utter BS and that MSC was in fact absolutely trashed.

I wish I had thought to take video of it, but I think part of the reason there isn't anything up right now is because no one thought much of MSC giving a speech at halftime and so no one though to record it. I should have at least got the end of the speech once I realized she was wasted though, I could have been a YouTube sensation!

Here's the video. It sounds like she's just getting her speech jammed. Maybe the acoustic delay in the stadium was only a couple hundred milliseconds.
