Thanks as well.  If Marvin and Josh are about the same size and Josh has more speed, you would think that maybe Josh would be in the FS and Marvin in SS, close to the line, or a LB position.  But, you are probably right, Marvin may not get bigger while Josh may still, therefore the possible move to LB.  Could be a Crable type.

I get confused with the terminology as well, but guilty of using it.  Either way, I think these are good young athletes that we can use for many positions.  I just hope that weight doesn't slow Furman down.  Not that many big guys have his kind of speed.  It's too bad Marvin burned his redshirt by being on special teams, but you got to do what you can and special teams was pretty poor.

If the young corners continue to progress, won't they consider putting Troy Woolfolk back at FS? He's started around six games at safety for us, and in theory he has the speed and tackling ability required at the position? I'd feel a lot more comfortable with a 5th year senior back there; no offence to MRob.

Just a guess but I think the coaches would like to have him JT and Woolfolk at starting CB next year and hope that he can make a much larger contribution there by covering the #1 WR opposite him vs having him playing further off the LOS. That gives us a Jr. (I believe JT is a Jr.) and a 5th year Sr. at CB which is a lot better then two Fr.

would be something like this:

LCB: Woolfolk/Christian/Talbott

RCB: Floyd/Avery/Frosh

Deep S: Vinopal/MRobinson/Van Slyke (Maybe even Carvin?)

Bandit: Kovacs/Carvin

Spur: Cam Gordon/Carvin/Tom Gordon/Furman

Seems crowded at spur though.  Also notice no freshmen in the starting lineup.

That certainly was the case in 2009, but not necessarily because TW is a better safety than a CB.  He was moved to FS in 2009 because we had NO ONE who could competently play FS.  Before he moved there we were going between Kovacs who is solid where he's at by not so much playing deep and Michael Williams who is probably a great guy but  hasn't been a very good football player.  We also had the luxury of having DW at corner, so we knew one side was safe.

2011 will be very different.  We will not have the luxury of having an All Big Ten CB to man one side if TW is at safety, but we also have many more options at FS if TW plays corner.

Assuming one of the guys at FS pan out well, I say TW plays CB and we let the guys who were freshmen this year develop and unleash the best one in 2012 when they are juniors.

Is to keep Woolfolk at CB.

Avery and Floyd (the presumed starters if TW is moved) are below average for the Big10.  The depth behind them would be Christian and Talbot (neither of which impressed as freshman) or the next batch of true freshman.  We have depth, but our starters (without Woolfolk) would still be pretty weak.

At Safety, I'd rather stick with Kovacs, Vinopal, Robinson, Johnson, Gordon, etc and let them settle down there.

Let Woolfolk and whoever wins between Avery and Floyd lock down the corner positions and work Safety from there.

I think Avery has the chance to become an average or better B10 corner.  He was thrown in the fire as a true freshman and he was perfect, but he showed lots of potential.  I think with these bowl practices and off season he could become a good CB.

It could be an innocent typo.

If it is a new poster, it could be, heaven forbid, that they saw it used that way and don't know any better. I pity the fool, but everyone has to start somewhere.

If it is a poster who has been around for a while, it is safe to say that they are poking fun at whatever dimwit announcer it was that pronounced it that way.

None of that matters, just don't call his dad Harold.

I hope he develops into something great there.

It's interesting, when he came in everyone predicted he'd slowly move from S to LB or hybrid SS/LB. Instead, he started closer to the line and now is moving back.

I wonder if he was already more physically mature than thought, and it seems as though he won't fill out and add as much weight as once thought. Maybe that is the reason for the move back away from the LOS. Physically maturing faster than other kids also fits in with him being a holy lock for a 5 star safety after his first couple years in HS and then as time moves on after all was said and done he was "only a top 100ish recruit."

I wonder if he's gotten faster during barwisization. He had a 4.6 40 in HS. One thing's for sure, kid can lay the wood. And being that he played this position for 4 years on varsity in high school, hopefully the familiarity helps him with picking up fast.

I guess my hope for spring would have been TWolf starting at FS. Maybe now he strengthens corner if MRob can be the real deal.

Lay fools out Marvin!!!!

WAIT... NOT THAT CC...

I wonder if Cullen Christian will move to free safety next year.  The tea leaves seemed to indicate that he would be making the move, which would give us a Vinopal, MRob, CC, and Avery Walls (Oh please, Angry Michigan Safety Hating God, let it be so) trying their hand at FS.  Between the four of them, I can imagine a non-terrifying two-deep.

JH had his thumb on the detonator there.

I heard CC to FS rumor at some point. I had such high hopes for him but he was a true frosh and i was holding out hope he would compete with C. Avery to displace JT.

Are we still in it for Walls?

I was praying that MRob would force his way onto the field this year, we need athletes on that side.  I'm dying to know what the overall plan for him is.  Whether or not they'll try to add weight on him like Mouton, or keep him the way he is and try to add more speed and strength.

Given that Jonas Mouton is graduating, doesn't this take away some needed depth at his to-be vacated position? It looks like Mike Jones and Josh Furman are the only players currently slated to play there, and neither of them have much game experience. Of course, there are eight months until the season starts, so this isn't a grave concern. I'm just curious if there is another player who I'm overlooking who could slide into Mouton's position.
