Martavious Odoms - Hopeforpahokee.com

Submitted by Rather be on BA on

I ran across this video today on facebook, which led me to Odoms' organization Hope for Pahokee.  This is really cool and makes me respect Martavious even more than I already did.  I wish more athletes used all of their resources for good causes like this.  I thought the blog would appreciate this.

EDIT:  I just saw that this was posted almost two months ago.  It did not garner much attention though and I don't think it hurts to post it again.

Humbling to see the good things people do.  Makes me proud to be a Michigan alum.

Also, I read that as "Hokeforpahopee" upon first glance.

The more that link is posted, the better in my opinion...

I wonder if Brian would be willing to put his #eating shirts in the mgostore?

Also, just a thought... it wouldnt take much to have different color variations of the shirt for other schools...

With the number of Pahokee football players sprawled throughout the country, i'm sure he could spread the word, too.

In the fall of 2008 I had the pleasure of sitting behind a fellow student at a football game that though he knew more than the coaching staff about football.  He constantly bitched about Odoms being the "worst human on the planet."

This is another reason why the kid is a total dumbass. Props to you, Tay.

Hey! It’s you! I remember you. That obnoxious guy that got into a shouting match this past season in the student section with some kid. You were going on about how Denard was a terrible quarterback and he should be benched. Yep, pretty sure that was you. Nice mullet and jorts, by the way.

I sat next to that dude the last time we had Wisconsin at home! Except this time we were in the opposite corner as the student section. Anyway, this douche nozzle, being a defensive genius, thought gerg could hear him from across the field and over all 110,000 other people there. Still, despite his genius, he didn't realize that he single handedly destroyed my eardrums. Dont worry. Ill back you up as you kick his figurative internet ass...

I was really hoping to see him picked up Sunday for kick or punt returns. Unfortunately I haven't seen anything. It doesn't hurt that he has a degree from Michigan.

Few people may remember that marvalous Martavious set a freshman receiving record in 2008 when he led the team with 49 receptions, while also leading all Big Ten freshmen in receptions and all-purpose yards.  Good player, good guy.

Thank you for posting this.. I am very new to the mgo community and didn't see this post previously.  I will be wearing my #eating shirt proudly throughout various Columbus establishments..

So does this have to do with the whole "eating" dance that denard was doing last season? I'm sure they are all tied together...

The non-football portions of that video gave me goose bumps.  The video, while obviously done on a low budget, is very, very good work.  Having a platform and an "eye" for what works can only be beneficial in the long run.  I wish them the best.

I wonder what those old racist alumni/donors - the ones who ripped RichRod for recruiting "too many players from rough parts of Florida with dreadlocks," or "too many players with names like Martavious" think of this.

On second thought, they probably don't care since they are just horrible, ignorant people.

I donated a few weeks ago (and included a note of encouragement) and got a super thoughtful thank you email from Martavious. Clearly a force for good in his community, I'm sure he'll make Michigan and Pahokee proud.
