Marquise Williams now leaning Va Tech?

Submitted by Dreisbach1817 on

This is the word coming from Rivals.  It's a non paywall article listed below.  As of now, it has Va Tech with a slight lead over us and UNC.  But this seems pretty wide open right now.  The article also talks about our chances with Curtis Grant and Frost.  Again, from what we've been hearing from Tom and others, Frost seems like a solid UM lean.

As I see it, with M. Williams, I would love to bring in a guy of his quality to develop at QB.  I just wonder whether he would be willing to wait and develop considering our depth.  I might be alone, but if Marquise decides to go elsewhere, I would much rather decide to use that scholarship on a CB like Kitchen (whom we scouted last week).  This is of course nothing against a guy like Sousa who has great potential or C. Jones.  I just wonder whether our depth at QB can allow us to go a year without a QB and grab an additional DB.  Nonetheless, it seems like the coaches are intent on getting at least one QB for this class.  I guess it's a position that you cannot risk not addressing each year.

Here's the article:

Isn't really that great if one gets hurt and Denard is, knock on wood, someone who has shown he can get hurt.. although he always seems to recover, knock on wood..

If one goes down.. we only have two..I'd feel much more comfortable with four.. like my wife always says though.. I'm greedy.

a chance that three Qb's could go down.  however, the % of that is low and even if we get down to DG we still have a capable Kennedy!  so i would, in the grand scheme of things think our Qb situation is 'Great'!  especially because i believe DRob has utilized this bye week to understand he needs to keep himself healthy for the benefit of the team!  i have a hunch that along with this bye week the last two weeks might have been one of the biggest growth periods of DRob's career!  as well as our D!  Go Blue beat psu!

VT was where Williams was said to be leaning before his (somewhat of a surprise) commitment to UNC.  So having them back at the front of the picture is no surprise at all.

Incidentally, there was a Rivals thread where a Hokie (who seems to come off like MGoObes if Obes was smarmy jerk) was railing about John Blake ("Black Santa") and how his super-shady recruiting tactics had struck yet again.  The guy got reamed, which from the sound of it was par for the course.  This was of course about three days before Blake was exposed in the media as the SMU side of UNC's operations.

Edit: as for Curtis Grant I'd put Michigan's chances in the tenths of a percent, actually.  If he stays instate (not real likely) it'll be UVA and if he goes out of state I think he'll try and find the biggest stage he can.

I say, recruit the best kids you can and worry about the numbers in the end.  Especially with uber-athletic QB types, you can find a way to get them on the field and contribute.

Not taking a QB in this class assumes that Tate will be here next year and I don't think the coaches (and maybe even Tate) are 100% sure about that

I mean, I love me some Tater, but you gotta beleive he will at least consider transferring. He is talented enough to be a solid #1 qb at plenty of qualtiy programs. I would love for him to stay and be there every time Denard gets dinged for then next 2 years..but it's just not realistic to expect a kid that talented to accept a permanent role as backup

Sorry, I did not intend to stoke any fires.  I just have a feeling that Tate decided it's in his best interest to be a good team player the rest of the year and then figure things out once the season is over.  I don't think anything is decided.  Then again, I have absolutely no credible basis for this...just my non-Sam Webb gut telling me.

Or maybe I'm just hungry.
