Marching Band in Columbus This Weekend?

Submitted by True Blue in CO on

Assuming the Marching Band coming to Columbus this weekend.  We will need the noise down here.  If they are here, are they performing on Friday evening?  In the past they have been at Pickerington High School.  If anyone has further information on chance to see them please reply.

is going to Columbus, of course, but they are making a one day trip out of it, leaving early Saturday morning and returning to Ann Arbor that night.  No special performances.  I don't know anything about Saturday rehearsal down there.  I don't kow why the trip shorter than normal either, though my guess would be Thanksgiving weekend and wanting to give the kids at least a little break, though they do return to AA Friday to practice.

We'll be loading the buses at 4:15 AM on Saturday to head down to Columbus.  If you want to catch our morning rehearsal, it'll be at 8:45 AM at the OSU Band Practice Field.

I believe short 1-day trips are the norm for the band during the season.  Putting the entire band up in a hotel for even one night is very expensive.  Remember, they are about 3 times the size of the football team.

I believe the only time they've made a multi-day trip out of the OSU game is when they've arranged to stay with host families from a local high school.

We did home-stays up until 2006, when we were put in a hotel in downtown Columbus.  Hotel stays for longer trips are not out of the ordinary, it's just the MMB doesn't take very many multi-day trips anymore now that OSU, MSU, and ND are the only away trips they do on a regular basis.  It's my understanding home-stays are no longer an option, but that may have changed.  There was talk of a PSU trip in '06 that got axed at the last second, and there would have been a hotel stay involved.

When the MMB stays in hotels, even athletic bands (for the most part), they often put either 3 or 4 people in a room to save money.

South Bend, East Lansing and Columbus are always automatic road trips for the band.  It's been that way since the beginning of time.  They'll be there as always in front of America's worst fan base.  The constant booing during every song is to be expected.  But I sometimes worry about their own personal safety down there.

A friend I went to high school with was in the MMB in 96 when they went down to Columbus.  As they were getting ready to walk inside the stadium, a middle aged Buckeye fan walked right up to her and punched her...giving her a black eye.  This was a 40-something man punching an 18 year old girl.  Yes.  Welcome to Columbus.
