March Madness Carnage Stories

Submitted by EastCoast Esq. on

I thought it would be fun to have a thread where people can share horror stories about how badly their brackets are mangled after yesterday's action. Given that approximately 99% of brackets are busted, I assume there are some good ones out there.

For me, Purdue losing to Little Rock means that one of my Elite 8 teams is already gone. I also had Arizona in the Sweet 16. I consider myself to be lucky.

So, who got destroyed? Has anybody lost a Championship pick yet?

As a sidenote, one of my colleagues still has a PERFECT bracket. A second one would have had one, but he got two First Four games wrong.

I thought they'd be the the Cinderella story and last until next weekend since Duke had a six man rotation.  Looked good for the first 19:55.  Should've remembered that Duke would get like 35 free throws.

taking out Virginia along the way.  I got that differentiator wrong in my MGoBlog bracket.  (I've got UNC to win it all.  Based mostly on, wouldn't it be ironic for Roy to win the NC after he got blasted for his coaching performance against Duke?  Not so much pro or anti-Roy/UNC, just pro-irony.)

But I've also got WichitaSt/Vandy to the Sweet 16, so I wouldn't say I'm "busted" yet.

I'm 13/16 so far. I picked Yale but lost heart at the last minute and went with Baylor. I could kick myself for that one. Gonzaga is my best pick so far. If Cinci wins today I'll be 100% on 9 seeds over the 8 seed.

I picked Arizon, Baylor, and Purdue to lose in the round of 32 so I'm sitting ok.

Seton Hall killed me. Had them in the final four on my mgoblog bracket....

Purdue too kinda hurt. an Elite 8 team...

But my East Bracket is perfect so far! Hoping Michigan continues that trend tonight!

My only real miss was one that I knew was going to be a miss, but loved the idea too much, anyway. I had FGCU going to Elite Eight.

Every other game I missed was going to lose in the second round, anyway. And I did get Yale right!

I'm first in 2 of my pools (Purdue & Iona wrong). Luckily I didn't have Purdue making it past the second round. For some reason I chose Yale in every one of my five brackets. I filled out 3 brackets for my girlfriend and one of them is still perfect, so hopefully I keep it up.

I had Purdue and baylor looking soft and losing.. Also had a good feeling Arizona was losing to witchita.

If I did fill out a bracket it would still be perfect. Go figure the year I don't I'm getting it all right, although last year I only had 1 wrong going into round of 32

My wife somehow managed to make it through day one with a perfect bracket.  Lord knows I didn't help her cause she wouldn't have made some of those bonehead picks if I did...

I tend to root for chaos/upsets over any kind of bracket picks I've made that year. Why? Well, I KNOW for a fact that my bracket is going to be destroyed, early and often. I'd much rather see crazy-stupid upsets over any free-entry brackets I've created. But hey...that's just me.

That said, BEAT THE IRISH!

I lost 2 games yesterday. But the two I lost I had going to the Sweet 16 (Purdue and Seton Hall). Seton Hall probably played their worst game all season.

Had Arizona to the elite eight, though.  I hate Villanova and don't like Miami, either, so I went with Arizona.  The entire Oregon bracket is a crapshoot and I don't like any of those teams, so I just rolled with Texas A&M, which means they will get beat today.

I made two last minute changes - I switched my Yale pick to Baylor and my Iowa State pick to Iona... luckily I had Baylor losing in the R32 anyway and Iona losing to Purdue, so I'm only out 1 team in my S16 so far. Not too bad

On day one. The 8/9 games usually kill me, but so far 3-0 on those. Picked the wrong 5/12 thinking Chattanooga was going to pull the shocker, but had them losing to KY in the round of 32 anyways. My other 3 losses hurt though...Baylor (Elite 8) Purdue and Seton Hall (Sweet 16). Need a little bit of a better showing from the other squads I have going far, or else I'm really in trouble.

I have 14/16 so far.

But, Purdue losing kills me. I had them to the elite 8.

Other than that, only game I've lost so far is Indnana/Chatanooga.

And I only had them to the round of 32 so meh.

Currently in second place in my office pool. But the only two I got wrong yesterday were Purdue who I had going to the Elite 8 and Seton Hall going to the Sweet 16, so those are going to bite me later.

Why am I unsurprised that it was Sparty's region where I failed?

Purdue cost me a sweet sixteen team and I whiffed on two of the three 8/9 games, but I called Yale, Gonzaga, and Wichita, so I'm reasonably satisfied so far.

I called Yale over Baylor and was pretty sure that UALR over Purdue was a good pick due to the guard mismatch, but I already had Iona over Iowa St.(figured there would be just enough chaos in that game to upend the cyclones) and didn't want to get too cute and so I ended up getting the Iowa St. Purdue part of the bracket wrong for my only wrong picks of the day.  Luckily, I didn't have Purdue going past the Sweet Sixteen.

We'll see what happens today, I always pay for a good first day with insane carnage in the second.

My bracket is so busted!  I made a bunch of complete guesses as to the outcomes of basketball games mostly based on second-hand opinion and limited viewing.  Some of the games I got wrong!

Also, my fantasy football team lost in the finals when a guy on my opponent's team not known for putting up gaudy statistics had a remarkable day and racked up an above average amount of yardage!

Also, I finished just out of the money when I shoved all-in with pocket aces preflop only for the big stack to catch runner-runner hearts to make a flush!

Tell me all about your stories!

(flips the bird to this entire thread while making fart noises)

I run a pool of 25. Yes, 3 brackets are busted due to Baylor and Purdue. Overall though, most people had Purdue losing before Elite Eight, and about half the field have all 8 Elite Eight remaining and 15 of 16 Sweet Sixteen. Only 4 of 25 are missing more than 1 Elite Eight team.

Baylor = Elite 8. Don't know how they got there in my bracket. Sometimes I do the bracket and end up with teams getting to E8/F4 and instantly regret it. But...
