Marcellus Wiley
I am watching the replay of first take from this morning and I find Wiley to be an incredible analyst of not just football, but life in general. I never paid so close attention to his analysis until now, but I would have to say he is one of the best ESPN analysts.

Put "OT" in your title for the love of all things sacred and holy. You don't want to have to suffer through the firestorm that is about to come if you don't do so.

use a little deductive reasoning. a topic titled "marcellus wiley" probably isn't going to be about michigan, so it shouldnt come as a surprise that this thread isn't about michigan.

that possibly there was perhaps some other, younger, 'Marcellus Wiley' LB outta somewhere perhaps looking to take a visit. And, being the risk taker that I am, clicked on the entry, got disappointed, then commented to you...actually I got SVP's show in the background right now, lol....

Though it was a recruit of some sort.

When Wiley was asked about athletes and guns, and his answer produced possibly the most compelling segment they have ever had on First and Ten, Skip actually dropped his schtick and talked in subdued, almost reverent tones. And he actually waited for Wiley to complete his sentences.

Are you listening to the same Marcellus Wiley the rest us listen to? The guy is completely incompetent. About life: why would someone watch First Take voluntarily?

so maybe he taped it and fast forwarded past the talking parts.

Say what again.

you beat me to it. +1 to you sir.

I saw him on Sports Nation a couple times when he was filling in for Cowherd and really liked him. He knows his stuff and is able to articulate it better than most athletes turned analysts at the WWL.
I don't know about the whole "great analyst of life in general" thing though.

I thought this post was about Pulp Fiction and getting medieval.

I think he went to Columbia, so he's a pretty smart dude. At least more so than your average football player.
January 15th, 2010 at 4:34 PM ^
He did attend Columbia. Actually, he did so at the same time as Lauryn Hill and the two dated while both were there, apparently.
EDIT: Nope. He got her number, but things sort of fizzled, I guess. http://assets.espn.go.com/talent/danpatrick/s/2002/1211/1475387.html

I went to Columbia when he was there. It was absurd, like watching Brandon Graham play against high schoolers. In one game, it was pouring rain and neither team could get any offense, so they put Marcellus in at running back, and he single-handedly drove the team to the game-winning field goal.
I have no position on him as an analyst, but he'll always have a place in my heart as one of the few heroes of Columbia football. (It says something about your football team when your best known players are Jack Kerouac and Matthew Fox, the doctor on Lost.)

switch over to baseball and ya got Lou Gehrig

Anybody can get into Columbia.
All you need is a fake ID and a bag o' weed. And the fine ladies of Columbia are off the hook.

Wait a minute...not THAT Columbia?

I've really liked watching him on Sports Nation. He speaks with authority without acting like his God's gift to ESPN.
He generally has good insight and doesn't sound stupid, punk, thug, etc.

When the Falcons hired Mike Smith two seasons ago Wiley went on the the air and slammed the hire. He said Smith was the DC in Jax when Wiley played there and players used to slouch and tune out Smith in defensive meetings because players didn't respect him. They only jumped to attention when Del Rio walked in. He said Smith is not a leader and would never be a good head man. Then Atlanta had that Cinderella run into the playoffs in his first season. So maybe Wiley should have given him more respect as a player and as an analyst.

And Atlanta immediately fell back out of the playoffs. Mike Smith hasn't proven anything other than that he can hand off the ball to Michael Turner 400 times a year.

They didn't go in the tank they went 9-7. Ryan missed 2 games and Turner missed 5. Plus their 3rd receiver missed the entire year. Haven't even looked at the rest of the team. Just saying Wiley wasn't fair to him. Not that I really care I'm a Giants fan.
